December 15 - Fair Windows Contest opens now - contest closes on Sunday at 11:59pm PST. This weekend, I would like you to make me a stained glass window. Well, perhaps not a window. A stained glass window picture that the light can shine through, perhaps! The material is your choice. You may be able to draw a picture on a transparent surface, or you can stick together translucent beads or candies, use up that jello from last weekend, stick colored plastic packaging together, a silk painting, a glass painting... hopefully you get the idea. It should be something that the light can shine through, but the materials with which you achieve that are your choice. The theme of the stained glass window is your choice, but should be at least vaguely piratey, and there should be a reference, however small, to the Doodles in it. You will need to provide at least two pictures of your creation - one should be a photo of your creation against an opaque surface, so we get to see how it looks as created; one should be a photo of your creation with light shining through it (e.g. held up against a window). You will need to host your images on an external website, and post them as links in your entry. If you want to include a thumbnail as an image directly in your post, you're welcome to do so, although this is not required. Questions, discussion and entries can all be posted in this thread! As a reminder, please read the general rules before posting. Start your post with your pirate name and ocean, a very brief description of the materials you used, so we know what we're looking at, and then post the links to your images. Go Doodle! |

Sarahsparrow, Midnight. I just used an overhead transparency and a few whiteboard markers. The end is near! It's supposed to be modelled after the tombstone furniture, and is mourning the soon-coming end of December Daily Doodles. Opague: http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q288/Sarah_Sparrow/My%20Drawings/84c7f166.jpg So yeah, there's not really much sun here either, so I held it up to one of the lights, which unfortuanately suck, so I tried to get a few that are marginally decent. Llamagirl of Hunter Items Used: Mulberry paper, black cardboard, brown paper (wrapping kind) Well, this was my first ever attempt at making a "stained glass window", but I have always sort-of had an idea of how to make one. First, I drew the picture I wanted onto plain white paper, and then traced it onto tracing paper. From the tracing paper, I put it onto the black card, and cut out the sections I needed to with this teeny weeny pair of scissors that started giving my fingers blisters, so I had to take frequent brakes. After cutting the sections out, I cut out pieces of mulberry paper to fit over the holes. After sticking these pieces on, I cut a tiny star, T.V. and diplodocus out of the black card, cut out the centres and stuck them on to bring in Doodles. And then it was finished! Yipee! Finished "Window" (Against Real Window) Finished "Window" (Against Blank Paper) Me cutting out sections of black card Original Drawing On Paper ---------------------------------------- Llamagirl on Hunter Beautiful avatar by Albini! Silly work.. I missed out on my weekly stained glass window making class... /e giggles.. Well really I've never went but on Saturday's a shoppe, Valley Art Works offers a class in it from 11-3, so sayeth the sign outside. Anyways, My theme for this is: This year I've been on a red octo hunt, which is what I asked Santa for, but he hasn't delivered yet. So my stained glass (tissue paper/construction paper) creation, represents my sloop (proudly displaying it's Doodlez! flag and having it's hull represented by carping pieces {as you can tell I'm Able @carp lol}), after a red octo sunning itself on a rock *apparently I'm sailing on Viridian?* Oh.. since this was my one chance to play with glitter, the picture comes complete with gold glitter frame. The Completed Work on 'da Kitchen Table. It's a Foggy Window, but a window none-the-less. Okay, here are extras since I'm camera happy: Red Octo Texture Shot Ocean Texture Shot Doodlez! Flag It's sideways, but my backscreen door window I used. The reason the window was foggy.. Yay SNOW! ---------------------------------------- Casiopia Luckypavo says, "Can you guess which OM I am?" I saw this, and thought, "Easy, I did it when I was a kid, why not now?" But it was harder than I thought xD On paper Under light (I meant to do it in the afternoon, but an elite pilly made me forget =P) Before you ask, it is a pirate (with a green face and blue hair!) wearing a striped top and a purple parrot, a red monkey and a purple octopus all on one arm. =) ---------------------------------------- Kittyocool on Hunter |

Admire of Hunter. I first sketched out what I wanted on tinfoil with a Sharpie. I then colored in roughly the colors I wanted on the window. I then traced it onto plastic wrap, and colored it in with Sharpie. Tinfoil Regular surface- finished product Against a window-finished product I noticed as I was posting this that it was similar to one already made, but I didn't check the posts before, so it's purely coincidental. Oh, and just for fun, a not so fluffy bunny. ---------------------------------------- Admire, Hunter Ocean. Avatar by Fireopal! |

unfortunatelly i wasnt able to enter the "Captain Claus" daily doodle. so i just used my idea for a piratey santa picture as my stained glass window picture ^_^ clever me. and here we go... sketching finished outlines black paper cut against my computer screen i.e. light ^^ ![]() scanned in (bigger pic) btw - in case its not obviouse as paper cut - its pirate santa clause flying over Dragon's Nest (i actually used this pic as reference for my island) shooting presents for pirates out of his cannons. he has a ship instead of a sledge which is dragged by parrots instead of rendeers. oh - and the compass in the bottom right doesnt have any paper on so you can totally see through whatever is behind the window ^_^ ps: i was so waiting for the >do your eyes burn? is your neck sore?< message XD ---------------------------------------- = Talula - Meridian = Xalija on all other Ocean Old Avatars - broken pic links |

Feylind, Midnight This seemed like an excellent opportunity to make a second attempt at a lit, edible wreath, since the electric jello was unsuccessul. Ingredients: sugar cookie dough crushed apple and cherry Jolly Ranchers (Hi, Pletoo!) dough frame unlit picture lit picture - unfortunately, my entry did not survive removal from the cookie sheet. So no picture, no valid entry, and no success again. Maybe next weekend! ---------------------------------------- Feylind Semi-retired |

My materials were black poster board, colored tissue paper, scotch tape, scissors and cuticle scissors (oh how I now long for an exacto knife). There's a beach and ocean which I think is vaguely piratey, and a sun, for Apollo, a rather large reference to the Doodles, imo. On table, opaque background: http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i59/iupjew/IMG_0466.jpg http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i59/iupjew/IMG_0465.jpg Backlit by a lamp with the shade off because I wasn't able to finish until after sundown: http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i59/iupjew/IMG_0468.jpg http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i59/iupjew/IMG_0467.jpg ---------------------------------------- Alethia on Midnight Senior Officer Tyr's Own Avatar: Chezlin "One might say that there are occasions in which barrelstoppery is best combatted with bigger and better barrelstoppery." |
