There was a mention of governments being established and there being governmental jobs, is this going to be far away or soon and how exactly will this work?

Flags and Government

One of the next things on the list is the first pass at Flags. Flags are the political organisations in PP -- coalitions of crews whose primary goal will usually be to secure islands and develop them.

Initially we will be handing islands off to successful Flags, but shortly afterwards there will be mechanics for flags to colonise undeveloped islands.

Once an island is under Flag control the Flag leadership (much like the crew leadership, with a Queen (== Captain) and Officers) will appoint a Governor to administer the island. The Governor will be able to appoint assistant governors. The primary job of the Governor will be to ensure that the island is wisely developed -- useful buildings are put in sensible places -- and generally to foster a Pirate mecca.

Through substantial investment the island will grow from a port, through a market hall, palace, to add shoppes and houses. The latter will be mostly owned by player merchants as they are now, although some may be owned by crews, the governing flag, or other flags.

Aside from Governorship, 'government' jobs would be just like other jobs -- working in the fields, or at the construction yard.

The other primary function of Flags will be in warfare with other Flags, culminating in the Blockade and seizure of Islands. This will come after release, and will be carefully balanced to ensure that it's very hard to do. More on this laterrr.

Thanks, that sounds really cool, can't wait to be a blockade runner, that'd be pretty fun having "high speed" chases and such.
