Adesh & Broncobabe are in the preliminary planning of a Pirate Meet-Up in Las Vegas. Plan to come have a great time & play all kinds of things. The event will be starting late Friday night June 29th & running through July 1st. but we are staying until the 4th so will plan events all the way through if others are staying as well.

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas baby. So come have fun with us all.

If anyone wants to help please let us know. We are just starting to plan it and will need a good name to hopefully get an OM trinket for all attendants as well.

Hmm, it isn't Key West but it's almost as good! I'll start making tentative plans right now but there is a HUGE race coming up then here at Daytona Beach. So, it will have to depend on that... yea, I know, my first love, Nascar, will always come before anything else! Even toast!

Which brings up a good point. Are you planning events for this meet-up to be adult driven? I know that minors may not set foot on the casino floor. There is a border on the carpeting in the casinos that under 18 yr olds may not venture off of. Will this be a gambling event or do you have other plans that do not involve gambling and drinking?

/e wonders if her ex-husband and his new fiance would let her stay there that weekend? harr!!!

It will have pirate events throughout the weekend and extending to the 4th leaving time for gambling for those so inclined. It will be a byob event and underage/non drinkers are more than welcome. I will be one of the non-drinkers since i am allergic to alcohol.

Go fer it mates. Just be aware of two things:

1) Organisers, Vegas is a popular and easy-to-reach location, so you might get more people than you currently expect. We honestly expected 30-50 to sign up from Blackpool. We got about 80 in the end, including almost dozen from the continent, from Norway to Spain, and two from the U.S. (Artemis and Sailmaker)! Fortunately both Blackpool and Las Vegas have plenty of hotel beds.

2) Members, play poker with friends for small stakes.

Yeah I am currently telling hotels 60 people for quotes. I am looking at 6 different hotels and will post them to get input as soon as I hear back tent rates & whats included. There are so many hotels there its amazing. but i want it to be a fun place not just for the adults but kids as well. So am looking at ones that have pools, buffets, game centers (kid & adult ones), shows, etc. The rates I have gotten seem to be $60-$115 for Fri/Sat night & $40-90 for the rest of the nights.

I really haven't looked at meals yet so not sure on them

Ok down to 2 hotels. The Sahara or The Orleans . Please give me feedback & insight into which you like better.

Quoted rates so far:
Sahara $99 Fri/Sat & $45 other nights
Orleans $110 Fri/Sat & $60 other nights

Not that I'll make it, but for euro-zone (or upside-down) people who might like to attend, are those prices per room or per person?

Hotels in Europe mostly quote "on the basis of" two people per room. and include breakfast. I'm given to understand that U.S. conventions can have 3-6 people sharing (such) a room to save costs. Of course, Las Vegas is one of those weird places. I was only there for an hour and a half at the airport, but if you were to weigh all the slot machines in it the total would probably be more than than the weight of a jumbo jet.

The Sahara is on the "Strip," the Orleans is not. The Sahara also has a stop on the monorail which now runs pretty much the whole strip, so people can go anywhere they want without having to walk around too much. Remember, that time of year can be pretty warm in Vegas. Just my 2 PoE worth. I used to live there.

Im liking Circus Circus

It is somewhat more family oriented with an indoor amusement park that would probably be fun for most of us and definately legal for all of us.

I would prefer Circus Circus too. It was fun when I went to the one in Reno. :) I'm really hoping to be able to plan and attend this event! I love putting faces to names in the game. Then again, I might not be the only one who actually looks like her pirate! LoL

I would definitely do more than calling the hotels directly. They offer great packages for certain groups through other methods. I'll snoop around and see if I can find the information. It is, afterall, OFF season that time of year.

Las Vegas is the most expensive city in Nevada. Personally, I'd look into meeting in a place like Laughlin. You can get far better discounts and rates and the gambling is all the same. Its also right on the Colorado River and you can get to all the hotels from the water taxi. It'll be very hot there that time of year, but everything is well air conditioned.

Since they already cater to weekends for cowboys and bikers, adding pirates to the list won't phase them a bit! You can get hotel rates for about $20 a night there without group discounts, but knowing the area, I know they'd be happy to provide more discounts. That means you can spend more money gambling!

I do know that The Riverside has a day care center for the wee little kids, bowling alley and game rooms for the older kids. Movies, shows, night life .....everything. Its something you might want to consider and its really easy to get to as well.

It might be an option. Laughlin is located 90 miles south of Las Vegas. Oh yes, and I nearly forgot...they have rv camping as well and direct flights from cities all around the country.

True, but Vegas is only 30 to 45 minutes away and there are shuttle & bus rides available to take you to & from Laughlin & Vegas for "modest" fees - especially for groups.

Those pirates who truly love boats & water can rent jet skis & seadoos and play in the river too.

Hmmm... a pirate part in Vegas is perfect with Pirates 4D and the revamped Treasure Island pirates show Sirens (ugh!). Showing up in public dressed as pirates will not look weird there, but it maybe out of place in Lauglin. :P

I used to live and work in Laughlin and trust me, they are so used to the cowboys and bikers, pirates will not phase them.

You are absolutely correct about the shuttles and stuff to Las Vegas proper. And seriously, what's a pirate without water? Nothing! Laughlin is still Clark County so all Clark County laws, marriage and otherwise still apply.

Did I tell you while working in Laughlin, I got to serve Ruth Buzzy? She is the sweetest and mildest mannered person and absolutely beautiful! So if Laughlin is good enough for Ruth Buzzy, it's good enough for me!

Also Lake Mead is right outside of Laughlin, more water fun!

And yes, there are large Casino companies represented in Laughlin, like Harrah's and MGM, among others as well as independent casinos like the Riverside Resort.

Last year we made sloops, played drunken bingo then had a drunken pillage, had a murder mystery after the pirate dress-up party, dove for treasure, and a few other things. Any ideas from everyone are appreciated. And I would LOVE others to help run events so i have relax time as well.
