Alchemistry Bake-Off - Win a Parrot!

When: Friday, September 22th, Midnight, PDT
Host: Minthe

Rules:
Joining
  • You must log on a character who is ranked Novice/Able at the puzzle. You may play the puzzle as much as you desire provided your character remains Novice/Able.
  • Application will begin an hour before the designated start-time for the bake-off, at 11pm, PDT on September 21st.
  • Send Minthe a tell with the name of your main pirate.
  • Take off Do Non Disturb.
  • Be patient. Do not send multiple tells.
  • You will be jobbed aboard the Alchemical Waiting Room.
  • You must remain aboard the vessel until cleared to leave. If you leave the vessel you will be disqualified.
  • You must remain jobbed into Minthe's crew for the duration of the contest. If you leave, you will be disqualified.

    Stat checking
  • Fifteen minutes before the start time (11:45pm, PDT), jobbing will cease.
  • This time will be used to check the stats of everyone on board.
  • All members should take part in this checking.
  • When you check a player say, "[name] is too experienced" if they are not Novice/Able.
  • Minthe will double-check any mentioned and confirm.
  • Any players who do not have Novice/Able will be disqualified.

    Process
  • At the start-time, Minthe will say "Go".
  • Should anyone say "Go" or otherwise indicate that it is time to begin before Minthe, that person will be immediately disqualified and will likely be banned from all future bake-offs. Contestants are often jumpy and may not see who says what in their effort to begin quickly.
  • Leave the vessel and travel to an apothecary.
  • Play the alchemistry puzzle repeatedly. Do the best you can.
  • Every time you advance an Ocean-wide rank, send Minthe a tell stating the rank you have achived. I will check this, note the time, and send a confirmation response.
  • In case there are multiple tells in a short time, your time will be logged even if the response is delayed.
  • Do not send tells when you increase in experience.
  • Continue this for two hours. Minthe will periodically broadcast the amount of time remaining.
  • When the two hours have elapsed, Minthe will broadcast that time is up. You may then stop puzzling.
  • Any puzzles not completed when time is called will not count.
  • Reboard the Alchemical Waiting Room for declaration of winners and prize distribution.

    Winners
  • The winner will be the player who achieved the highest rank first.
  • Players will be ranked by how quickly they achieved the ranks.

    Prizes
  • First Place: A Lime/Black Parrot; A Fancy Ribbon Trinket.
  • Second Place: An Ancient Jolly Roger or a Golden Ticket for Booty or No Booty; A Fancy Ribbon Trinket.
  • Third Place: A Turtle or a Golden Ticket; A Fancy Ribbon Trinket.
  • 4th-5th: A Golden Ticket; A ribbon trinket
  • 6th-10th: A ribbon trinket.

Three in the morning! >.<, etc.

Fortunately, I have plenty of shipwright drones that have never so much as touched an alch flask on Viridian. If I'm alive at that time, one of them will show up and alchemize very sleepily.

Not that I have any concerns with buying a labour badge, but will it take place on a free day? I can't really get to that menu at the moment.

i would love to join if it werent for the fact that
    a) i dont have enough dubs to buy a labor badge
    b) staying up till around 3:00 in the morning on a school night isnt a good plan
    and
    c) i suck at alch anyways.

could you possibly move the date forward 24 hours? it might make it easier on a lot of us. you might also get more participation.

Moving it forward 24 hours would do a few things.

    1. Screw over an entire weekend for Aussies and anyone else in that general timezone where Friday Midnight server time is daylight Saturday time (Example, it's 5pm Saturday for me, 4 for anyone in Adelaide, 3 for anyone in Perth, and New Zealand is looking at around 7pm if I'm not mistaken)

    2. screw up blockades. See above time zone tabling for why. Stop assuming that midnight game = midnight or early AM for everyone who plays.

A question - Why do you go to school on a Saturday?

The bolded lines in your list seem very contradicting into your suggestion to move it forward. I interpret your post as, 'Could we please move the bake-off forward so someone who doesn't pose as being a real contender in the bake off, and couldn't afford it anyway just to annoy other people because it is in a convenient timezone to others?'

    Well, maybe that's just me.

    - Pipeline,

Just to confirm: if our standing goes down do we report it or does achieving a standing even for one puzzle stay for the entire thing?

The only thing that matters is how quickly you reach a standing. If it goes back down later, there is no penalty. The organizers will only check your standing when you send a /tell reporting you have gone up in standing. They will not be checking otherwise, so if you go back down they will never know.

Can I assume that if the standing moves in the archipelago but remains the same in the ocean (for example "Standing: Renowned, ocean-wide Grand-Master") that we would send a tell for that increase? (Rather than wait for the second GM message.)

I have a feeling that if this happens to me, I would end up reporting two GM increases.

Thankyou very very much for holding this Bia. As all of you who participated knew it was extremely hard beyond Master, but I still congratulate everyone who took part, I'm sure your eyes are now well and truly potion-filled.

I'd also like to congratulate all the winners, you did a FANTASTIC job, I can't believe how quickly you got GM, and as Bia said, "Everytime I see that GM under an hour, I wait for the Legendary tell." I, myself, thought it was an awesome experience, and I'd love to see how a duty puzzle bake-off would work in this format, similar to the navigation bake-off. I applaud each and everyone of you who took part.
