July Familiar Auctions Reply to this Post

This month, the familiar auctions will be done with silent bids.

The rules are simple. Send me a private message with the following information:
  • Name
  • Ocean
  • Bid amount
  • Location of the bid
  • Familiar choice (type and colouration)

The subject of your private message must be formatted as follows:

Name - Ocean - Bid Amount

Bids not in the proper format will be deleted without response.

Bidding will close at the end of the month (July 31, 11:59pm, PDT). At that point the highest bid on each ocean will win the familiar of their choice.

I will not be announcing high bids. Bid what you are willing to pay for a familiar.

You may submit multiple bids, however subsequent bids must raise your bid amount. Also, spamming my message box will result in disqualificiation.

Bids are binding. Do not bid if you are not willing or able to pay. Bid only when you have the money available and leave it in the designated location until the auction ends.

If you wish to bid on multiple oceans, please submit separate messages for each bid.

Bids must be at least 500,000 pieces of eight.

It would prob be unlikely. Although maybe they could take the first tie breaking highest bid from whoever submitted the bid first and declare them winner? Maybe.

Aye, it'd have to go to who ever go it in first.

But what if they did it at exactly the same time?

This actually makes me think of the ebay style of bidding: Silent bid your max, but pay based on what the second max'd bid is.

After all, with this approach, you are trying to bid just higher than second best, so your bids will be slightly lower with this approach.

But with the alternate approach of "Bid your max, pay based on competition", you see the true market value of the pets.

In the unlikely event that two bids are tied, I will take the earlier bid.

As a reminder, the bid formats are very specific, including the subject, for a reason.

Any bids that do not have the properly formatted subject will be deleted. I have already had to delete three such bids today. I require this subject because it makes it very simple for me to track what the bids are.

Also, if you win you will pay what you bid, regardless of what the second-place bid on that ocean is.

Where you put the money. I suggest a shack without any roommates. A locked ship is also a safe location.

So a descriptive location would be "Bia's shack on Wensleydale" or "The Sprightly Hammerhead in the crew Hades' Explorers ported at Ix Chel".

Hm. A good chunk of my money is in dubloons. Is it absolutely necessary to have the money in a certain location when you make the bid? I can get the PoE and place it in a shack in 4 minutes if I win, but it's such a hassle otherwise...

    To reiterate.

The subject of your private message must be in the format:

Name - Ocean - Bid amount

Subjects such as "Familiar auction", "Blind auction", "Auction bid", or anything similar are not acceptable. I have had to delete five bids today because they failed to meet this single requirement.

And I am not checking bids until the auction closes, TianX9, so if you wish to wait to amass the pieces of eight, that is your perogative.

It seems that a forum reset took away the 500 message inbox, so I am now over quota.

Instead, you may e-mail bids to bia@puzzlepirates.com. The rules otherwise remain the same.

Because of this change, I will extend the deadline to 8am PDT on August 1.

    Tentatively the winners are:

    Ocean Winner Bid Amount
    Cobalt Kaet 1,105,602
    Hunter Seablades 1,256,000
    Midnight Kaet 1,768,086
    Sage Barty 1,500,001
    Viridian Triggster 2,350,000

There may have been higher bids, but many failed to follow the format rules (specifically regarding the subject) and were deleted.

I will be checking these over the next day and awarding the familiars in the location designated with their bids. If your name is not listed, please do not yet remove your bid from the designated location. Should any bid fail to be filled, I will check the next highest bid on that ocean and so forth.
