Hello, I have been trying for days on end to get this working, I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. Basically I complete the download from steam, then upon trying to run the game it hits 90%, attempts to download 5 times and then completely stops and tells me it is unable to install, please try again or failing that uninstall and reinstall. As I say, I downloaded Dark Sea several times, also steam and my java version. I use windows 7 still, I realize it's old but I prefer it's layout the most and not to forget the myriad of problems I have undergone using newer versions of windows. Anyway, when I try and fail I get a report in my launcher text file, hopefully this can help you to help me!
I have tried quite a lot, I went hunting on google, steam and PP forums for solutions but nothing has worked. Also doubt it matters much but each time on the first download it stops at 70%, searches for files and then continues, it hits 97% then searches 5 times and fails. It's having problems successfully downloading game files. If you're using WiFi, try using a wired connection while installing initially. Also disable any firewalls or anti-virus/malware temporarily. I would appreciate that greatly, I use mobile internet exclusively as I cannot get Wifi access at my home or a wired internet connection. I had wondered if this was an issue ! So you'll need to download this (~333MB) Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common (or the alternative location if you install Steam apps elsewhere) Delete the current Puzzle Pirates Dark Seas folder (you may want to yank out the java_vm folder within it first and save it somewhere - it's possible you'll need to replace the one in the extracted directory with it if you get an error launching later) Extract the ZIP into the common directory. Thank you so much for your help Sagacious! 1Hour playtime, yet never logged in lol! It seems to have worked but now I have come face to face with another issue.. When I get to the log on page I get two errors If I try to use a current account I get "server authentication failed. If I try to create an account via steam I get the "too many accounts created " I let out a little wooop! I feel so close to getting on and puzzling away.. ;] EDIT: I'm in! - I can't use the account I'm currently using to talk to you here, however one of my other accounts credentials let me sign in and play! Really, thanks for the help, I linked this post from other places I asked for help, if others have a similar problem hopefully this here is the solution to their troubles. I figured it's not really a big issue, I'll stick with a new account as nothing will carry over, like my backsword I don't think I need to. I'll just crack on and puzzle. Do you have Steam installed? Are there other games you're able to run in Steam? When you say you've been working with tech support, are you talking about PP tech support (support@puzzlepirates.com)? ---------------------------------------- #TeamEvil

That's currently what we've been finding with Macs running El Capitan and Sierra - the overlay isn't loading on Steam for any game. Disabling "System Integrity Protection" temporarily to run the game and buy dubs, then re-enabling it, is currently the only known workaround - aside from using another PC or compatible Mac to do it with. ---------------------------------------- Cerulean & Meridian - Icemeister Emerald & Obsidian - incognito! #TeamPurple |

It says it's running; sometimes an empty white box appears for a minute or so, then disappears. Otherwise, it just says it's running for a few seconds and then stops, doing nothing. |

What OS and version of Java do you have? Does Steam show PP:DS as being installed? So you're just clicking "Play"? When I first installed PP:DS, I had to let it sit there for about 20 min after clicking "Play" (with the Steam client open), then the install finished and I was able to access the game fine after that. ---------------------------------------- #TeamEvil

OS Yosemite, 10.10.5, think it's the latest Java. It says it's installed but there is no .app file. I've let it sit for up to an hour with nothing happening. |

Oh, I thought you were saying that GH support was telling you there is no .app file. If you're simply making that statement then yes, you're correct, there is no .app file. For Java, go to System Preferences, then click on Java (should be at the bottom of your System Preferences window). Once the Java control panel opens, click the "About" button on the "General" tab. Then post what version it says you're running. For PP:DS, open Finder and then press <Command><Shift><G>, in the "Go to folder" dialog box type: ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common Then click "Go". Once there, do you see a folder for Puzzle Pirates Dark Seas? ---------------------------------------- #TeamEvil

Java information? Can you right-click the "Puzzle Pirates Dark Seas" folder and click "Get Info" then post the size and number of items within the folder? ---------------------------------------- #TeamEvil

Not sure how to get the Java info! But I remember I was playing around in the terminal and it seems I have, like. Every Java. Size: 150,016,705 bytes (150.4 MB on disk) for 521 items |

Previous post gave steps on how to obtain your Java version information. Within the Steam client, if you go to Libraries, can you right-click on Puzzle Pirates: Dark Seas and select "Uninstall"? Once done, open finder and then press <Command><Shift><G>, in the "Go to folder" dialog box type: ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common Then click "Go". Once there, if the "Puzzle Pirates Dark Seas" folder still exists, move it to trash and then empty your trash. After all of that, quit Steam and then re-launch it. Once in, re-attempt your PP:DS install. Steam will say it's downloading a file, once that completes, click play. Not too long after clicking play, a Java window should open and you'll see something similar to this blank box (image tags left out on purpose): https://s19.postimg.org/mggjjzv1v/pp-ds_install_window.jpg Let that sit there and eventually you'll get the PP:DS version of the YPP install screen (similar to the one you get when your client needs to be updated) ---------------------------------------- #TeamEvil

I've done this, but the install screen never comes up. When people say it's installing in the background, does Steam at least say the program is still running? It stops running on mine. |

The only way I know that it's still running is that there is a Java icon in my Dock. When it finishes downloading, that Java program ends and a new one begins (which is the traditional install). Do you have any kind of security software installed? Do you have Firewall enabled? Are you using a VPN when you try to install? ---------------------------------------- #TeamEvil

If it's installing in the background then it still shows the black box as in majestrate's link - it just doesn't seem like it's doing anything. It would say the game is still running, but the black box may be hidden behind other windows. If it stops running soon after launch, you're probably missing files. Delete and reinstall the game again. I don't believe I have a firewall or security software-- never installed any-- and I don't have a VPN. I've installed the legacy patch and uninstalled and reinstalled the game several times. I do think the problem is missing files-- I was asked to find an .app file by technical support, and could not find anything. That's why I was asking if somebody could do for Mac what was done for PC up there, to sorta just bypass whatever Steam isn't doing for me. |

They probably could provide you with a roundup of the files, and I'd do it myself if I had access to a Mac (might get that over this weekend). A .app isn't possible for this. A VPN would actually help you to install the game better if you're finding you have missing/corrupt/incomplete files and your connection is a little flaky.
