Graveyard runs vs Citadel runs Reply to this Post

Why are citadel runs preffered over graveyard runs?

I know this answer might be already known by most experienced players but I don't seem to find the answer.

Citadel gives you chests right away, you are required to treasure haul graveyards.

As Ronen said, Citadels have give you your rewards right away after victory.

Graveyards, in contrast, require that a large portion of your stationing manpower haul the spoils of the victory, which may take up to 10 turns, all the while ghostly brigs and frigates are closing in on your ship to fire away at you. These enemy ships become increasingly harder to dodge as the majority of the ship's jobbers have a tendency to haul the treasure after victory, leaving the commander with few sailors, carpenters, and bilgers, and thus few move tokens, and high damage and bilge.

The past 6 Haunted Seas I have done have all ended with a sink once we do a graveyard, for the very reason that jobbers will jump right onto the treasure haul left behind while deadly ships home in.

In addition, graveyards primarily only leave PoE behind and very few chests, and even then the PoE is measly, at what I estimate to be 500-700 PoE per jobber for many turns worth of hauling as well as the inherent very strong likelihood of sinking if you're not a war frigate.

Also in addition, graveyard warrant a scene change, thus guaranteeing the wipe of any puzzle progress of the ship, whereas Atlantis citadels can be be timed to avoid break periods and thus retain ship puzzling strength.

Not only is the payoff not instant, it's a lot lower. That's the biggest reason.
