Portraits w/ Black Box trinkets Reply to this Post
Reply with Quote

Thanks to Miz Sizzly, we've gotten the first two portrait item images for the trinkets from black boxes. ;-)
So, I'm starting this new thread to rack progress on this subset of portrait items.

Here are the remaining Black Box trinkets for which we need Portrait Item images:
  • Caltrops
  • Counterfeit coins
  • Decoder medallion
  • Dirty laundry list
  • Disguise kit
  • Fake casino chips
  • Forged documents
  • Garrote
  • Lockpick kit
  • Plunder bag
  • Poison darts
  • Powdered unicorn horn
  • Ransom note
  • Raven's feather
  • Smoke bomb
  • Stinking badges
  • Stolen imperial plans
  • Throwing knives
  • Wanted poster

And again -- thank you, Sizzly. ;-D

skeleton key spotted on another pirate
I would have added it myself, but it's longer than the 95 px height and I didn't know what you all would think if the bottom of the string was cropped off. Personally, I like consistency in size and it wouldn't kill me to not see the bottom portion of the string.

Kinda think the grappling hook's image needs to show both hands, even if you need to shuffle the grid around to make that fit.

Knucklebone Dice

I am afraid I do not know anything about editing the wiki so I thought this was the best way I could contribute.

Though just a note… it is actually "grey" not "tan." The color is based off of the cloth part, not the dice.

"Sailors knot"?...I didn't find any such trinket already mentioned in the YPPedia, nor in that other thread.

Could you please post (into that other thread) a screen shot of this trinket in your inventory, whenever you have a chance? (We need the inventory image, for creating the appropriate "Trinket" article for this new item, before we can upload its corresponding portrait item.) Thanks!

And -- *(checks clock)* -- by the way...

OK, this is also another one of those "not too difficult" things I could help work on, but I was wondering if it mattered that the pirates holding items, and the items they hold, are essentially "flipped" in these Yeti portraits (look at your injuries).

Does it matter to the wiki admins that the image is the mirror opposite of what they would be in a more "regular" (right-facing) portrait, or should the trinket in the portrait be flipped after it's cropped down, before being uploaded to the wiki?

Waits for a ruling before doing it wrong.

I have no clue which way it would face in a real portrait - I am too poor to go buying real portraits.

However, I'm not sure it makes a big difference - many of the items can be flipped in a two-person portrait ... right?

There are two person portraits that have the flipped view too, yeah? Does the trinket look exactly the same just mirror image? Or are there actual differences? Do we know? If it's just flipped, then I don't see any problem with flipping the image before uploading it.

I feel like I'm not making myself clear. Sorry.

All of the Yeti portraits that people have offered as examples of missing trinkets in portraits, are the two-person "facing each other" pose. In that face-to-face pose, the pirate on the left side is essentially a regular pirate pose, flipped. One could tell by their injuries, and additionally it also flips the item in the pirates hand. Someone asked me if it was a bug, when his eye patch had been put on the wrong eye, and I had to explain to him that it has always been that way. I completely understand why the arrtists don't want to make an entire 2nd set of portrait-everything, just so pirates can face the opposite direction.

The above examples are from my portraits with the Yeti, compare to wiki images, or previous portraits that I already had.
I know, it's not a huge difference, but ALL of the wiki examples come from portraits where the item in the right hand. I kinda dig consistency like that, and I'd venture to say that in 98% of the portraits taken, the item will be in the right hand.

*** I know we don't need this globe - it's shows the difference well and is just an example :D ***

So it's a multiple choice question--- should I.....
a) Get over my OCD, and upload the cropped images of trinkets taken from Yeti portraits in the left hand? Eeeeven though all the others are in the right hand and "not flipped"?

b) Fake it, and flip it? I could "correct" which hand is holding the trinket, if I flip the Yeti portrait before I crop it. I also remove blemishes and red eye from people in my snapshots, so I'm fine with a false reality :P

c) Say "Thanks for the offer!" but for the sake of historical accuracy, don't digitally alter the images, and wait for a traditional right-hand-item portrait.

Your call, I'm just a graphics person :D

I understood what you were saying. My answer is: if the item will look the same as it would had it originally been taken in the right-handed portrait, then my vote is for option b. It looks like, based on the examples you have that that should work fine.

Got a couple more for the page

Poison darts (white)

Disguise Kit
*Note: In my inventory the trinket appears as light brown, but obviously looks more like black in the picture. If someone else could at least preview a portrait with another color to see how it shows up...
