Since this event is a big one it gets its own thread! What: Carp Bake Off for the 24 Hour Bash Date: Sunday, April 24th Time: 10:00AM PDT Event Details: - About 30 minutes before the start, Catboy and any officers in his crew will be jobbing people onto the event ship. Only the first 72 pirates on will be accepted! - We will hold three rounds of puzzling with each round lasting 6 league (For a total trip length of 18 leagues) - The ship will be ported at the very beginning of each round as well as half way through (i.e. every 3 leagues) - Anyone leaving the vessel before the end of the third round will forfeit any prizes or presents, while you are on board we ask that you take a duty station to keep the ship afloat as well as keep quiet for those still puzzling. - No navigator will be used - Participants are allowed to leave their stations. Anyone using this to be annoying or who makes a general annoyance of themselves will be planked. Participants may not, however, exit their duty station for more than a few seconds at a time, we're testing your puzzling ability over the full 6 leagues, not just 5 1/2! - Participants are responsible for being at the right place at the right time. We will tell you where you need to be. Get there as quickly as you can so we can get going! - No one may enter more than once. Space is limited, and winners will be checked! Suspicious activity should be reported. - The use of unskilled alts is ok, however, that alt may not be on a trial account, it must be on a subscribed account. - We expect the three rounds of carping to last no more than 2 hours, so please plan accordingly when you join! - At the end of the last round we will pool all the scores together and rank the top few to determine prizes! Any ties will be broken at that time on a different vessel or navy ship, volunteers are welcome to come bilge/sail and see who wins as long as they can behave! - If we run into problems, difficulties or anything that we feel causes an imbalance in the rounds, we will take the 1st place players from each round and do a tiebreaker with them for first prize! - Trial Users will not be able to participate, sorry! (Volunteers to run a greenie pillage at the same time would be appreciated so they have somewhere to go!) - PVP will not be tolerated. Prepare to be boarded, booted and your ship thrown to the ends of the seas without any rum or shot. Station Capacity is as follows: Code: C Scoring: - Incredible: 5 pts - Excellent: 4 pts - Good: 3 pts - Fine: 2 pts - Poor: 1 pt - Booched/Learning: nada! Scorekeeping: - We will try to have at least 2-3 scorekeepers per round, which should account for any mistakes! - As a secondary check we will try to have someone taking a screenshot logof each duty report. ---------------------------------------- Catboy, First Mate of The Imperial Fists. We wanted to run a familiar event as part of our 24 hour bash; we approached Artemis and she suggested this one to replace the one that didn't happen for March Madness. ---------------------------------------- Ravine Black Death, Midnight |

A grand frigate will be used. As far as I understand it, brigands will be turned off on the route we choose. There will be an OM assisting us throughout the event. ---------------------------------------- Ravine Black Death, Midnight |

I'm confused (so what else is new ?) There is room for 24 carpers on a GF, but you are taking 72 entrants - will there be 3 GFs available ? Also, what type of familiar will the winner receive ? JPC - aka the Confused One ---------------------------------------- Moo - What more is there to say ? |

There will be three rounds, all on the same ship While a group of 24 is carping, the other contestants sail, bilge, etc. Once the trip is complete, everyone changes stations, and this repeats. For a total of 6 trip legs, if it's the same as the sailing one. ---------------------------------------- Cleaver shouts, "I lub this island." Personally I think that TITS are a technique if they are used less than once every three moves. Any more than that, and you're just waving your exploits in their faces. - Flamer |

If it's still the same as March Madness it should be a monkey, and winner gets to choose the color. ---------------------------------------- Is it rainning? |

I got disconnected last night for about 8 minutes while running a pillage, I came back to find my brig 2/3 damage and had to run away. But not a lick of bilge, thank you bilgers. I'd so like to have a bilge bakeoff. I'll be there for carp, please don't reschedule again. ---------------------------------------- Flakcannon, on all English Oceans, except that imposter on Malachite. I think bilge got a bad reputation after the bakeoff established that there are not nearly enough bilge stations compared to sails and carp. Using the same three-trip method, you'd only be able to handle 48 competitors on a grand frigate. It could be worse. You could be in favor of a duty navoff. ---------------------------------------- Japin, Duckie officer

Space is limited as is...can we have some rating minimum to help filter out some people? Maybe a renwoned and up in carp? ---------------------------------------- The one & only SD, often imitated but never duplicated If you gonna shoot for the stars, then just shoot me If you let me you won't regret me, Shii, if you let me you won't forget me |

I doubt it. Familiar Events are generally under the premise that they're open to everyone, though it's not necessarily a... um, necessity. Anyway, I doubt it'll be a problem. There were a bit below 80 for the Sailing Bakeoff I think, and this one's kinda earlier. Besides, it'd also conflict with this:

Yeah, so is the Solo Competition still gonna go on someday? I don't think I have much of a chance, but I was pumped up for the small amount of minutes in it. On the Carpentry Topic, I'll try my hand at it. ---------------------------------------- "There is all the difference in the world between treating people equally and attempting to make them equal."- Friedrich Hayek |

The only way to hold a bilge competition would be elimination format with a lot of people running Cutters have 3 stations right? Well so you have 3 people bilging off, one person sailing up to speed and you eliminate people in groups of three over time. It couldn't be done in one day though no. Bilge cakes are um, they take their time, or something. ---------------------------------------- His Holiness, The Dope |

Question - since we are now observing daylight savings time, is this 10:00 AM daylight or standard(as written), which would make it 11:00 AM Daylight ? JPC ---------------------------------------- Moo - What more is there to say ? |

The first familiar event I might stand a chance in, but alas it is Passover and I will be occupied with family and preparing a seder. Too bad there isn't a moratorium on major events for my holidays like their was for Easter. -Polly ---------------------------------------- Polly Hunter Captain of Flocktarts Avatar by Hedvvig |

OCL stopped for Super Bowl Sunday. EDIT: but I agree with Greasy's intent. I'm sorry you are unavbailable, but there will always be some group of people who can't make it. |
