What do you class as the 'home' ocean? Can someone from Ocean A join a team representing Ocean B if they have broad drinking on Ocean B? ---------------------------------------- Avatar by the Beautiful Velternal <3 Vsmeifudare says, "hi" Nightwishtwo says, "drop dead" |

You can have 2 or 3 people in a team. The game is a 4 player game so you and your teammate play in the same game with another team. Assuming you have 3 in your team you'll have to rotate the players inorder to reach the 50% of games played and to be eligable for the prizes. ---------------------------------------- Avatar by the Beautiful Velternal <3 Vsmeifudare says, "hi" Nightwishtwo says, "drop dead" |

What if a player cannot afford the 5-poe fee? (Numerous reasons this shouldn't matter, yes, but I'm curious what the rules provide.)
It's a pity you can't do actual shared-row-control team drinking. (You wouldn't share stain color, so the Stein functions properly, but a 0+3 vs 2+2 row would go to the 2+2, which will not happen in this event, as the rules suggest it is not a team drinking code test, just a "team drinking" event) Actually, 7 of 10 mugs would not need touching to work with Team Drinking allowing mixed-mug teams. Stein, flagon, and tankard would, though, as they can have effects on others' turns. I'm expecting Chalice/horn mix teams to take prizes. Other apparent combos are chalice/pitcher, flagon/tankard. Chalice should actually be an exceptional support mug. ---------------------------------------- Hrengito on all oceans, primarily Sage. Memmed: Sage(356/356).Viridian sea(25/282). Best solo recorded 2-stop 50L time: 60m. In opposition to aftcastles for sloops everywhere. |

Short answer: Yes. The "home ocean" simply defines the home ocean of the team. If you meet the requirements on ocean B (broad drinking), you can join a team from ocean B. I suspect there are many players who meet these requirements on more than one ocean. In that case it's up to you to chose for which ocean you want to participate. Just be aware, that the team's home ocean given in the registration will also be the one where you will recieve the prizes.
Just to confirm what bobdonnell already said: Teams can have 2 or 3 members and matches are always 2 vs. 2. So if your team has 3 members you'll need to take turns to ensure everyone is eligible for prizes at the end.
The wagers are a must. If you cannot afford the wager, I'm afraid you won't be able to participate. However, the total sum required should be pretty small and you should have enough time to accumulate the necessary poe until the event. As pointed out above there will be plenty of tournaments put up on Ice and we're not only giving out mugs in these tournaments, but also poe prizes. And there's still the good old navy, of course. If you think getting enough poe in time might become a problem for you, maybe because you won't have access to Ice until the day of the event, you should probably work something out with your teammates, so they can help you out with a few coins, should you really run out of money during the event. ---------------------------------------- Avatar by Podgekins of Hunter |

I couldn't seem to find it in the thread but although the event is on Ice, the prizes go to your main ocean? Sorry, I found the answers -- thanks. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 2 times, last edit by laurelweezle at Jan 13, 2011 1:02:58 PM] |

The event itself will be held on Ice, since we prefer to hold it on "neutral" territory. But if you win, your team will recieve the prizes on the ocean you listed as "Team Ocean" during registration (one of the regular oceans). ---------------------------------------- Avatar by Podgekins of Hunter |

After a quick look over the registrations: Please do not select an individual name for your team. Your team has to be named after your team captain's Ice pirate, as seen in the sample registration. That way it will be much easier for us to keep things sorted and for your opponents to find you during the event. An example: My Ice pirate's name is Thalia, so my team would be called "Team Thalia". If I used an alt called Thaliaalt as my Ice pirate, my team's name would be "Team Thaliaalt". ---------------------------------------- Avatar by Podgekins of Hunter |

Single game knockouts dont decide who is the best. A league format, on the other hand where everyone has to play everyone, that would have decided who is the best. ---------------------------------------- Hwfo |

Less than 12 hours until registration closes, mates! Make sure you get your team signed up before midnight (game time) today. Please also make sure that you include a note in your registration post, if one or more team members need access to Ice. Requests that come in after the registration deadline will be disregarded. ---------------------------------------- Avatar by Podgekins of Hunter |

Just curious as to how a round robin type tourney works for the group setting? Is that pretty much a mini doule elimination tournament? And for that round robin it is not best 2/3 correct? Sorry for the clarification, just trying to find the likelihood of making it past the first part of this team tournament! ---------------------------------------- ~Fourfivesix A B C It's easy as, 1 2 3... no 456! |

Registration is closed now, as you may have noticed. ;) Everyone who requested an Ice pass in the registration post, should now have access to Ice until the event (including the day of the event, of course). Time to create pirates, obtain mugs and earn some poe! Also, please let me know, if I missed anyone! The sooner you check, the better, of course. I'm currently going through registrations and will post more details about the actual tournament/event format, as soon as I have them. ---------------------------------------- Avatar by Podgekins of Hunter |

Here we go: We have a total of 35 teams signed up. That's an impressive number! That also means this event will definitely take several hours, please plan accordingly! On to the tournament details: The 35 teams will be split into 5 divisions, with each division consisting of 7 teams. We'll start with the qualifier matches, where each team will compete against the other 6 teams in its division once - one game per match. The top teams of each division (most won games - we might have to break some ties here) will make it to the final rounds. That means we'll have 5 teams competing for the top places after the qualifiers. Final rounds will once again be a round robin format, where each team will compete against each opponent once, best of 3 this time. The two top teams (most won games again) will then settle things in a final match of best of 5. Matches will be posted in the room news of the event location. Important! If your Ice pirate's name wasn't included in the original registration, because you haven't created it yet, please take care of that now. Everyone should have access to Ice at this point. Please let me know as soon as you're able to. I won't be able to invite you to the event location, if I don't know your Ice pirate name! You can either post here or send me a PM (simply include Team name, ocean, home ocean pirate name and Ice pirate name). The sooner the better and ideally the team captain will take care of that for his team, so I get all names for one team at the same time. That would make things a lot easier for me. As usual, please post here, if you have any questions. ---------------------------------------- Avatar by Podgekins of Hunter |

Just to be clear: wins in the qualifying round will only matter to see who moves to the top 5 and have no impact on the top two teams that face each in the finals, correct? ---------------------------------------- Stevensam -Cobalt Native, founder and host of The PoE is Right. Correct. Qualifiers only determine the 5 top teams that move on to the final rounds - one from each division. Wins and losses from the qualifiers don't have any influence on the final rounds otherwise. ---------------------------------------- Avatar by Podgekins of Hunter |

Anyone who doesn't meet the broad drinking requirement won't be allowed to play and will be planked from the event location, but that doesn't disqualify his entire team. If your team still has 2 members left after that you can still participate with only two members. If only 2 out of 3 team members show up you're also still allowed to play. You only need a minimum of 2 team members present - but no playing solo. ---------------------------------------- Avatar by Podgekins of Hunter |

To quote the rules from the first post: All team members must be at least Broad experience in Drinking on their home ocean. So, no worries. You don't have to have broad drinking on Ice, of course. The pirate you listed as your main on your home ocean needs to meet that requirement. ---------------------------------------- Avatar by Podgekins of Hunter |

For your convenience, here's the complete list of participating teams. Hopefully that will make it easier for you to find your opponents tomorrow. Names given in brackets still need to be updated - they're just the main ocean pirate names, not the Ice names. I'm still waiting for the Ice pirate names of these players and I'll update the list as soon as I get the necessary information. That means some team names might also change with the Ice pirate name of the captain. I was happy to hear about such a drinking event going on. So I joined a team ready to take part in the event and have fun. What followed is one of the most disappointing times I had on puzzle pirates so far. I created a pirate on Ice a few days before the event, made sure to collect all kinds of mugs and enough poe. On the day of the event I was online 1 hour before the start of the event, waiting for the happenings to unfold. I had cancelled a rl meeting with friends so I could be at the drinking event. After the broadcast came, saying that invitations were about to start now, I checked the away messages of the OM's in charge of the event regularly and waited calmly since they said invitations were being sent. A few minutes after the official start time my team captain said on greeter chat that he did not get an invitation yet, I followed suit saying that I was missing an invitation too. Galene answered on greeter chat "Got you." My captain was invited then, but I was still not. I then started to send tells to the OM's in charge. I got the answer from Galene that if I wasn't online at the start of the invitations I got no invite. But I was online then, without andy breaks. The OM's just seemed to overlook me. Then Galene sent me to the other OM, basically blaming me for not having sent a tell and saying I was not on her list but on the list of the other OM, Thalia. This OM never answered me at all. From my view the OM's made a mistake, but didn't do anything to fix it. And none of them sent an apology. This makes me really sad. I know mistakes can happen. But then please say sorry and try to make up for it. This is totally not fair I demand a redo when ever I messaged an OM they ignored me, no where does it mention tie breaker rules. My team beat the other team the first time we played, therefore we should move on for head to head. You would only have to play again if there was a 3 way tie which there wasn't, therefore making our elimination unfair. I demand a redo or a change in the rules. :/ |

First, I would like to thank everyone responsible for planning and running this event for doing so. It was fun despite a horrible start for my team. I hope we will see more events like this in the future. I would also like to thank all the teams that showed up. Without everyone there it wouldn't have been nearly as much fun.
Mate, the rules clearly state (as Look quoted) that ties will be broken via a few methods. The head-to-head match played prior to the division ending is not on that list of methods given by the OMs in the rules above. So it is unreasonable to assume that they will use that method of tie-breaking. Also, if you look at past white familiar events (the OCL) you will see that the method they used here is what they have done there as well. It was argued back then that the OMs should use the same ruling that you want here, and it was decided that it would not be used. I know of no event that the OMs have run that uses the prior head-to-head result as the tie-breaker. You can demand things all you want, but that won't change the result or the rules of this event. The OMs picked how they wanted ties to be broken and they were done in that method. You voiced your objections at the event, and the OMs heard you. Unfortunately for you, they decided to go with the method of their choosing and not the method you desired. Continuing to behave like you are entitled to something here will do little but make you look bad. It would be my suggestion that you stop carrying on about the issue. ---------------------------------------- Jalan, on every ocean. A slow shrew from Cobalt.
