There is no need to buy them in the store. With some bread and some toasttools nearly anything is possible. Here is a picture of the process, to give you some hints on shaping and general texture modification.

While on the topic of shoes, you should get jealous with these monsters;

I've seen a bunch of people wearing these. Apparently they're really comfortable. They're the second coming of crocs, no amount of comfort will compensate for the fact that they're blindingly hideous.
