[Fin] "I'd Do ANYTHING" | Results on Page 8 Reply to this Post

[size=18]Results here.

Desperate for a monkey, but can?t get past the quarter finals in the familiar swordfighting tournaments?
Frantic to own an octopus, but keep dozing off and falling into the harbor before the third round of the familiar drinking tournaments?
Longing for a parrot, but you have the musical ability of a ham sandwich and the artistic talent of a stoat?

Then, mates, do we have the familiar contest for you.

Ladies and gentlepirates, introducing the latest craze to grip the Midnight Ocean, please give a big hand for

[size=18]?I?d do ANYTHING to get a familiar?

We?re your hosts and judges for this event. I?m Fluffy Paula, under the account name DoAnything. My fellow judge, with account name EntertainMe, is the Dread Pirate Cowell. He can be a bit grouchy at times.

We know you want a familiar. We can feel it. We can smell it. And we?d like to give a familiar to the pirate who best demonstrates that they want it most.

All you need to do is make a ?bid? by telling us exactly what you would do to get your bilge-stained hands on a shoulder warmer. What heights would you scale? What depths would you plumb? What insane antic would you perform to persuade us of your desire for a familiar? Make it serious or make it funny, but make it provable, and make it good.

You have just over four weeks to make the most impressive bid you can think of. At the end of the bidding stage, the judges will select between 5 and 10 of the best offers and ask for them to be carried out, and evidence produced. The pirate that we feel has best demonstrated their willingness to debase themselves for our entertainment just in order to get a familiar, will win a parrot.

Deadline for bids: 23:59 PST Friday 7th January 2005.
We'll take a few days then to decide our favorite bids.
Deadline for actions
Once announced, these bidders have two weeks to carry out their action and post evidence.

Notes
1. We?re really not aiming this event at people who have already won familiars with their natural brilliance in other fields. This is not your event. But you, as honored holders of familiars, are welcome to give us the benefit of your awesome experience by providing input to the judging process. PM me if you are interested in this role. DoAnything and EntertainMe will chair the judging, and in the event of any dispute, our decision is final.
2. You may only have one current bid. If you change your mind about a bid, or think of a better one, add a post stating that you are making a replacement bid. We will assume that your latest bid is the current one unless you state otherwise. Any bid made or edited after the deadline will be ignored.
3. You may bid an in-game action or an out-of-game action, but if it?s done out-of-game, it must be on a piratey theme. Preferably on a YoHoHo! PuzzlePirates theme!
4. All advertising is good advertising. Apart from the bad advertising. References to Y!PP must be positive, please.
5. We will not select bids where offered actions are illegal, immoral, unethical, in seriously bad taste, pornographic, negative about Y!PP, degrading to people other than yourself, or likely to cause injury to you or others. Please don?t bother suggesting anything along these lines. If you have an idea and you?re not sure whether it falls into one of these categories, PM me for an informal ruling.
6. Every entry must include:
-Your pirate name(s)
-Your offered action, described briefly
-Your conditions for success, if appropriate
-Your means of providing evidence (e.g. independent witnesses in-game, screenshots, photographs, video, recording of you on national television, that kind of thing)
7. We will ignore bids that are essentially copies of another pirate?s bid. ?I?ll do the same, but with a bigger banana? is not going to get the originality vote.
8. We will ignore bids that are impossible to prove or document.
9. We will ask for clarification or explanation if we need to.
10. You may enter as an individual, or as a team. If you enter as a team, you must make it clear who the main contact is, name all participants, and if you win, the prize will be given to your main contact.
11. Rules may need to be created or amended in order to react to bids that are put in. We will try to keep this process as transparent as possible.
12. For the first batch of bids, we'll try to give feedback, to give some idea of how we're likely to react to bids. This will not continue throughout the four weeks and should not be used as a guide to the final judgements.

Now dance, pirate boys, dance!

Edit: added "Deadline for actions" heading to make the timescale more prominent. Added Rule 12.

You say 5-10 favorites will be picked, will this be public or private? Will this be in order of preference, or just the block of favorites? Say someone makes a crazy bid that they carry out but fall just behind the winner, will that stunt all be in vain?

I would say that publicly announced runner-up prizes would be nice for the crazies out that willing to pull a big stunt, just so their actions won't be a complete waste. Or perhaps you have that planned and I'm just making my self look like a jackass. Off to the drawing board.

Only the top 5-10 will be asked to carry out their stunts.
The others just bid.

The 5-10 will be announced in the file, in pirate alphabetical order, with no obvious ranking. No other pirates are asked to carry out their actions.

We expect there will be runner-up prizes, depending on the quality of stunts pulled. They are not announced as they are likely to be chosen to suit the bids that impress us.

In terms of selecting the winner, it's not just the caliber of the idea, but the quality of the execution that we are looking at. So a 10th place idea could still win if executed with style.

How long will you have to complete your task if you're selected as one of the 5-10 finalists? You've given a 4 week limit for thinking them up, but I didn't catch a limit on executing them.

You will have two weeks from the announcement to carry out your bid. It was in the original post, but not very obvious. I will try to make it more prominent.

Who: Markozeta

What: Float Cash across an Interarch

How: I will make sure all my cash is at Cnossoss. Then, I will float my war brig with 10k in the hold, to Guava. No bots, no rum, no shot. If the OMs so choose, they can broadcast this run. I will have at least three other people helping part of the time, each with Leg+ sea battle. They will do nothing but swordfight the entire trip. If any of them start to puzzle, they will be planked. I alone will puzzle, and I'll just be on nav.

The catch: I will turn around if I lose more than 1 battle, port, and refil the ship back to 10k, only to set off again.

Proof: Vessel logs, Testimony from my partners

Criticism is welcome.

Words in italics are addons and edits.

Edit 1.) Real life schedule cleared, but I'll still have to do this in Euro friendly times

Edit 2.) Added Partners.

Edit 3.) From 5k to 10k, added edits.

My initial reaction is that the screenshots suggested plus sight of vessel logs will be adequate evidence for Crazyrandom's bid. However, when deciding the top bids, we reserve the right to clarify and negotiate means of evidence as necessary.

Ok I edited it..... (Ok, THIS is the last time, got a great idea)

Who: Sarathebest
What: I will send everyone who is on my aim buddy list at that time a message that says I'M A PUZZLE PIRATE! I'LL KICK YOUR BOOTY WITH MY PUZZLING SKILLS, CAN YOU CLEAN MY BILGE? or something like that. If they respond, I will talk pirate like to them. I'll also be someone's slave for a day on Y!PP, they can make me do whatever they want me to do (as long as it has no innapropriate content to it) for 24 hours. And the last thing I will do is stage a protest to protect the rights of disabled pirates, I'll post it in the events forum and get a bunch of injured pirates to get together on the Alpha dock. I will also get married to the first person who asks me. Ok, and last but not least, I will see how many familiars I can try on in the two week period, the familiars names/owners will be posted on this topic
How:Sending out IM's on AOL Instant Messenger. And finding a person to order me around for 24 hours (if you're interested send me a PM on here or a tell ingame)Get a bunch of injured pirates to get together on the Alpha dock and shout about how they need more representation in Midnight (I don't have any injuries, but I will make sure my name is mentioned plenty of times and that I do a bunch of shouting as well) For the marriage, the first person who asks me, will get piratey married to me a week from the asking date, the wedding will have small tourney pots and other celebrations. For the familiars, every time I see someone with a familiar, I will start BEGGING and pleading and do ANYTHING they ask so that I'll be able to try on the familiar for five seconds.
Proof: I will copy and paste the messages into here, except instead of other people's screen names, I will put *****'s to protect their privacy. I will also document everything I do for the person who I serve and have them post on here that I was their slave for 24 hours. Anyone who is on the Alpha dock will be able to give you proof. For the wedding, well it's a wedding, so you can just come to the wedding ingame. Screenies of me wearing the familiars I try on, and the information in this post.

how: i'll personally, dressed like a pirate, declare a blockade on a crowded corner in philadelphia for the flag Puzzle Pirates. This shall include some ranting about blockade running at passers-by, waving a Puzzle Pirates flag and going "yarr" alot.
proof: hopefully i'll find someone not too ashamed to be seen with me to take pictures.

I will prepare and create a full album of multiple song parodies and sea chanties. I will use a good mike and find a proper accompanist. Selections will include, but not be limited to, showtunes, bad pop songs and properly translated parodies of German lieder, specifically the Dichterliebe and Frauenliebe und Leben of Schumann.

I will then pose for a cover shot in corseted goodness and distribute the finished product accordingly.

You will be powerless to resist.

Who: Ston

I will shave my head, get hoops put in my ears to look just like a real puzzle pirate. Sorry, the nose stays. An eyepatch will be procured.

I will then sail and pillage with a merchant brig for four hours. At the end of the four hours, the ship and all the poe in the hold and my winnings from the pillage will be placed in a tournament. I won't enter. Process will then repeat for four hours with one of my cutters. Then the same with my other cutter. Then again with a sloop. Then again with another sloop. Final four hours of a twenty-four hour period will be on the Infernal Damnation, which will not be tourneyed off, but instead I will clear my bank accounts out and have all of that which I have in one tourney.

With a webcam live broadcasting myself the whole time.

Proof: Well, before pictures, so you can see that I'm not already pierced and bare-pated. And the webcam. And logs for a twenty four hour period (if requested)

Assuming it is legal in the midnight ocean, or at least not explicity ILLEGAL, I propose to become the most polygamous pirate in these fair waters.

who: Scrumpet
what: Become piratey married to at least five other pirates, male and/or female within the two weeks.
how: With my natural charm and Nemo drawn beauty, I shall entice mates to not only marry me, but to share the nuptual bliss with others. I hope to have many witnesses at the ceremony/ceremonies, and the judges shall be invited to witness them as well.

My pirate has never been married, yet was engaged once to a dear pirate named Redeyes, who sailed off into the sunset with sweet words of a quick return, yet he hasn't been seen since. I have decided that instead of finding another one true love, I shall endeavor to find many, so that my heartbreak will be lessened if real life takes one or more away from me.

Edit: Adding...
-Your conditions for success, if appropriate. Conditions for success would be managing to wrangle an I do out of five or more willing pirates(established, subscribed ones). I can't say how many ceremonies there will be, as different people are available at different times, it would be a miracle if they were all on at once for a mass wedding.
-Your means of providing evidence. Witnesses I hope. It would sure be sad if my wedding(s) had no witnesses because the only people I could get to come were the bride(s) and groom(s)

As for people participating, well, it's up to me to find them, that's part of my bid. (Gee, I hope I'm half as popular as I like to think I am)

As part of the promised help and pointers, I'd like to use this as an example of something that's not quite right.

Thusnelda, is, as we all know, highly talented musically. She places well in all the musical, creative competitions, and doubtless, the finished article here would be an item any pirate would be proud to own.

And we're not after that. We're after something that you aren't good at, or at least will decrease your level of respect in the ocean. So, Thusnelda singing clever songs, in a tasteful and musical fashion isn't going to get her anywhere. If she were singing flat, in a shopping mall, dressed in piratey fashion, then we'd be talking.

Apologies to Thusnelda for singling her out, because she's not the only one who's made this mistake. I just really want to illustrate that the winner of this competition is not going to come out of it with their dignity intact.

EDIT: Upon rereading the rules, I see the challenge has to be completed in a 2-week time frame. As such, Im having to alter my bid.

For a period of 2 weeks, I will stand around alpha docks waiting for people. Greet me not with 'ahoy', but with a chosen keyword and I shall respond with a film quote. Guess which film the quote is from, and I will owe you a favour.
These favours can be called upon at any time in this period, and can include (but is not limited to) a wagered fight with me with you not wagering a thing, any help I can offer in a pillage or brawl, me making a fool of meself to a person of yer choice, or anything else that wouldnt be considered harassment or cheating. I would also ask that pirates limit themselves to just the one favour per day from me. But really, your imagination is your limit. And yes, I am quite ready to face humiliation.

Further, upon winning the familiar, I will enter it as a prize in a fighting tourney, to take place within one month of the end of my challenge. I will be legible to enter the tourney, but so will everyone else. It will be free entry, bring your own sword, and any cash I have at the time will be put cascading to third. Unsure about whether best of 1 or 3.

Regarding the dignity thing, that's a baldfaced lie. Have you SEEN that corset? And during the HOLIDAYS???

Fine. I'll change my license plate to CLEAVER and I'll wear my full pirate regalia at the DMV to do it. And I won't go to the quickie DMV at the mall, either-- I'll go to the DOT. As we all know, that should add up to about four hours of bureaucratic fun.

I see alot of nice things, but only a few that seem humilating.
Here is mine, as you all know for a pirate to be outright humilated and down in the slumps, is for that pirate to lose everything he/she has.

Who: Lucifer
What: Become a poor pirate
How: To give a greenie (judges choosing) me clothes in exchange fer rags, me poniard in exchange fer foil or keep me stick(if still have it) Any charts, bids, potions. Also I will challenge this pirate in drinking and sword fighting and lose (down to able) go to each stall and knock down me ratings fer all other puzzles with proof. Sea Battle too and the like too....
Proof: The greenie by judges choosing!!! Screenshot with the judge/greenie standing beside me of my inventory. And then one of my inventory empty afterwards. Screenshots of my ratings before and after w/ inventory seen. Screenshots of judge standing by me w/ chat log seen (fer proof) at each stall and job on boat. (TONS OF SCREENSHOTS, lol)

At this moment Poe is undecided......(up to ye judges)

Wondering if I were in the top 5-10 and I lose all me stuff but don't get the familiar, will I get me stuff back?

Akkhi's Great Underwear Escapade

I'll spend my time until the deadline raising as much funds as I can for this event (because if I'm not chosen, then I'll just have money to play with). I'll even sell off a couple of ships I don't use to make sure I have as much poe as possible.

The plan is to convert all of my funds into pairs of pink stripey knickers. I will then hang out in the Alpha bank offering me undies to anyone, lad or lass, who comes into the bank. If they say no, I will beg and plead and bargain until they accept or leave. I'll further offer puzzlepirate-dance and puzzlepirate-song and puzzlepirate-kisses as needed. I promise to put on a good show.

The proof? I'll make sure the contest organizers know when I will begin, and anyone who wishes will be able to come watch. I'll also screenshot as well as I can to make record of the event.

Edit: I might vary the colors some so as not to affect the demand of pink cloth too much. Yellow makes a nice pair of knickers, too. As does aqua.
