Crystal, I made a hand drawn entry but I don't have a scanner.... I have a digital camera, so I could take a picture of it and convert it but I'm worried I might screw up the picture quality by taking it wrong. How should I go about doing this?

Take it to Kinko's.

due to unforseen circumstances - I won't be home in time to scan and post my entry.

I will, however, post it when I do get home (just for sharing.)

It even answers some of my questions about swordfighting - why does it take the "state of opponent's puzzle" and targeting dots display ages to update? Because the artistic mice take a while to draw them! I must say, I feel a lot better about the whole thing, now I know :)

Thank you for all these excellent entries - it's been a lot of fun seeing them come in.

Your judges will try to get results out as quickly as possible, and my hope is that prize winners will be announced within a week. Until then, take a seat, relax and try not to refresh the forum page more than once every 29 seconds. ;)

Thank you!

Yeah, I ran out of time to do what I really wanted to do, and settled for my "backup plan."

I know who I'd choose to win, though.

Re: [CONTEST] A Slice of Pirate Life | Win a Familiar | Aug 21 Reply to this Post

Ladies and gentlemen, I have in my hand a golden envelope, fresh from the hot sticky paws of Edward, who delivers the contest results from Nemo, our chief judge, who made the final decisions.

First, a huge thank you to everyone who entered, whether or not you're on the list of winners. I loved the imagination and creativity shown in this contest. There are so many entries not on the winners' list that nonetheless gave the judges great pleasure - it's not feasible to award prizes to them all, but from everyone involved, thank you so much for sharing your work with us. I also know that there are people willing to give feedback on entries, so if anyone wants comments on their entries, please ask.

My hands are shaking. Let's open the envelope.

1st place: Solanna / Ruby_spoon
Prize: octopus (please let Artemis know which colour, ocean and pirate - see http://www.puzzlepirates.com/wiki/Octopus for colour examples but no black or white)
This whimsical mousey entry was delightful. The inherent genius, the frightening attention to detail, the creativity, the expert illustration and the compelling explanations will all give the swordfighting puzzle an added dimension in the future.

2nd place: Guybrush
Prize: painted cutter "Fantasy Island" (no black or gold, though!)
So much fun everywhere. A stunning piece of art, and full of creative ideas as well. We liked details like the coin press, the fossil in the central support, the Governor on the toilet!

3rd place: Pleione / Cleiades
Prize: cutter "Enchanting Octopus"
We liked the funny pseudoscience and great presentation of the octopus cross-section.

Runners-up / Hono(u)rable mentions

Shorty_Jack - inventive, witty and detailed, providing a cross-section of the server, as it were. Prize: "Bony Cutlet"
Abiona - creative, clever and original. Sloop "Chemical Cutlet"
Quizzlebob - funny and well-executed. Sloop "Lazy Cutlet"
Dhasch - well-drawn and entertaining. Sloop "Scheming Cutlet"
Ninjaguy - Funny and subtle. Sloop "Pirating Cutlet"
Smurfsahoy - Creative and funny. Sloop "Mutinous Cutlet".
SeaDevil - Funny, detailed and a great picture. Sloop "Murine Cutlet".
Zamdobber - charming and creative - a great idea. Sloop "Whisking Cutlet"
Emerson - technical clarity, nicely done, cool visual. Sloop "Layered Cutlet"
Rixile's cannonball - so simple, but made us giggle every time. Sloop "Cannon Cutlet"

Note to the prize winners: If your pirate name and ocean are not obvious in your entry, please would you post where you would like the prizes so that the renames can be done in the right place!

Once again, thank you for your wonderful entries!
