He's really rich. Basically Batman and Iron Man are the same heroes just from different comics. Rich playboys with a crime fighting alter ego. And he has gadgets galore. From Wiki:

How did he get his monies? See, Iron man will always make more sense to me than a guy who has a soft side for flying mammals.

Basically inherited it. Specifics beyond that depend on which Batman you've got. Generally, he also owns Wayne Enterprises, which is a giant tech company.
