Agreed, I have never been a blue pirate but it is no trouble to log on as a blue alt and scope it out. It was pretty deserted but I was able to find some people and have a good time. Sure, I'm not as stylish but whatever. And we found a bunch of bugs and reported em. Unfortunately for alting a lot of my merger questions are related to the ocean map. How the maps will join? how it will affect trading? memming (:( I was getting so close to 100% on Hunter) gem running. And my Cerulian alt doesn't even have islands on her map. The green pirates are grumping because the announcement made it sound like there would be multiple testing oceans. But considering we were at 40 players online last night 1 test ocean seems reasonable. And it was unexpectedly buggy at that. ---------------------------------------- Crabcake on Emerald and Obsidian Current avatar by Kolibri |

Oh by the way, in case it hadn't occurred to anyone, if you put yourself on greeter duty (/duty), it's a useful way to communicate oceanwide - useful when there's only a handful or two people there. ---------------------------------------- Sante of Sagemerald Senior Officer and Poet of the Lost Lot Not bitter, just Twisted |

Would be great if requirements for /duty would be set to 0 for the test ocean(s). ---------------------------------------- Locu on Cerulean and Opal (and some other Oceans) Check the Rack at Phakey's Tailor Stall on Tinga for nice clothes! Glad to see LP came to report the bug on the bid tickets before I could :) Is anyone planning to drop on an island so we can do a non-event blockade? We should test fame for drops on the various sizes. I'm freeish on Saturday to come help test blockades generally, if anyone is willing. If I'd thought of it earlier (i.e. not while I was at work and unable to log on) I'd have talked to my own flag about doing so. We should test sinking and non-sinking regular blocks as well. -Aeth, the QA tester who is trying not to to make up formal test plans. By the way, we might want to start a new thread just listing everything that's been tested, so at least forumers aren't wasting time. /e goes to do that. ---------------------------------------- Aethera of Princess of Maniacal Menagerie Blockade staff on any ocean Avatar by Bunnylaroo |

wow so cerulean is down to 7 players online... So all the tailor shops that I have walked into only have "display only" clothes. Is this a glitch or normal blue ocean thing? ---------------------------------------- Crabcake on Emerald and Obsidian Current avatar by Kolibri |

I just went to Quid Pro Clothes on Spring and their extensive rack appears as normal, you so you might have just picked a few of the tailors that use their racks for personal storage. ---------------------------------------- Don't wait for the perfect moment, take a moment and make it perfect. |

This bug appears at least on the tailors I can access (yeah, can't get myself into everywhere on the ocean due to the fact that I don't even have islands on my world ><) and those were on Dragon's Nest and some very random ones on some very random islands on that arch. Just wanted to confirm this, I'll post on the Cerulean test thread, too. Once more: thank you Sparkylove for confirming that her stall should actually have clothing that is priced, not just 'Display Only'. <3 ---------------------------------------- ~ Sizzly of Emerald ~ Avatar by Aerecura <3 |

In regards to the tokens: was it a pirate who'd never rigged on Cobalt/Midnight before? If so, that's normal. I believe you need a certain experience level to start getting them. ---------------------------------------- Loathe/Forever. Cremate tells ye, "i think i just broke my hymen" |

Ah, I believe the pirate 'Sizzly' I found when I logged on (still do not know why since I deleted that long ago) was totally fresh but I can't confirm 100% - now Apprentice, though. Yay. ---------------------------------------- ~ Sizzly of Emerald ~ Avatar by Aerecura <3 |

I think you're missing the point of these posts. Almost everything that's likely to go wrong with a merge is to do with existing items - so if you don't have any pirates who already had stuff, there is very little useful testing you can do on the merged ocean. ---------------------------------------- Bobjanova on Viridian and Malachite Shops and stalls with fair and profitable wages for all: Jubilee, Napi, Chelydra Stripped/Barely Dressed (Malachite) Phantasm/Reign of Chaos (Viridian) |

I checked it out and had similar bugs - missing island etc. I found the Cobalt pirates very helpful in getting to those arches and getting them added on to my known world. My complaint is that this really looks like 2 oceans side by side. There is nothing to attract pirates from one side to play on the other. Or to bring dormant pirates back, or attract others to play on this ocean. I was hoping (wishing? dreaming?) the two oceans would be more integrated with multiple new inter-arch routes to encourage pirates from each ocean to get to know the other. I'd love to see Jade or Onyx in the middle of Midnight's donut hole. With routes to Jet, Emerald, Diamond and Coral. And the Cobalt arches nearer to other Midnight arches. I think this would encourage pirates from both oceans to sail and trade both oceans. I hope what we are seeing now, is just the rough draft, to show that the process is possible and iron out most of the kinks. Then I hope OOO takes some time (and player feedback) to find an elegant way to combine the oceans in a format that adds value to multiple game components. -Coug |

Well, the job you just applied for is over there, see... Seriously, this is so that you have more people at the parlor tables, so that you can job for more voyages, and so forth. It's not really to spread people around the entire ocean, though I suspect that will happen as time goes on... for a small percentage of the ocean. Just like it is now: I mean, 90+% of Hunter is on Orion archipelago, despite having two other archipelagos with perfectly stocked large islands. ---------------------------------------- Gurndigarn on Emerald Ocean "Oh, come on. I logged on today to see how the test was going. There were 12 people on the test ocean. No pillages etc. running. I logged onto Midnight, and found two smh's trying to load, a regular pillage, and a forage offer. Apparently, people are not bothering to run to the test ocean. One thing, i'm presuming, is the fact that whatever you do will not count. I would hesitate to forage on the test ocean, get gold, only to know that it's basically cyber fodder. As others have stated, a doubloon test ocean, might be more of a litmus test. I can see some of the big issues of trying to test that first. I really hope they do not only test the sub oceans, and then think they can roll out the whole merge based on the results of that. ---------------------------------------- Belle Captain of Serendipity Queen of the flag Rebel Rousers (retired with Hunter) When you can't change the direction of the wind, adjust your sails. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by rebeltoo at Jan 6, 2012 6:12:47 PM] |

I don't see why it matters if you get gold and it doesn't count. I mean, it's all pixels anyway. It's not like someone is asking you to test a casino but you don't get to keep the real money. I have popped on and tested a lot of stuff that can be done solo. I have seen 20 or so pirates on Cerulean most of the time I've been on, only a few on greeter chat. It would probably be wise for an OM or Dev to lead an Atlantis or Haunted Seas, as it would fill pretty instantly if announced on regular oceans. ---------------------------------------- Aethera of Princess of Maniacal Menagerie Blockade staff on any ocean Avatar by Bunnylaroo |

I was only using that as an example. Don't get too knit picky. Was only putting myself in the shoes of what I think is the basic mindset of a lot of the population on this game anymore. Yes, you have your old timers, etc. who are willing to test this game with no rewards. How would you feel as a newbie to go on an smh, win a white seahorse, and it's not yours. I'm just playing devil's advocate here, for maybe why there is not anymore people testing this, than there are. I mean, seriously, can twelve or thirty-nine people really give you a feel for how this will turn out? Or find all the bugs, etc, you need? I really think that OOO thought people would flock to the chance to test this for them. It seems to me that's not happening. Although logging onto Midnight, and only finding 147 people on, kinda says something too. ---------------------------------------- Belle Captain of Serendipity Queen of the flag Rebel Rousers (retired with Hunter) When you can't change the direction of the wind, adjust your sails. |

I'll go with "Massive Sense of Futility" for 1000 poe, Alex. Not just in terms of gaining things on the test server that will end up wiped, but this poor old neglected and dying game in general. But HEY, we've got a new corporate partnership and Spiral Knights and a shiny new DW license, go look at those! /bitter ---------------------------------------- Starhawk of Mad Mutineers, Azure Catalina of Twilight's Sabre, Cobalt |

You also have to take in account that it's kind of hard for people on the green oceans (where most of the people play) to test on cerulean seeing as they have nothing. ---------------------------------------- -Gagundss |

Nor do many people actually read the forums. Personally I do not see the merge as a big deal. Add a few routes and instead of having to log onto Malachite to play I just log on Meridian and play them both. Not a big change. ---------------------------------------- Captainrich |

On the other hand, I am enjoying the comraderie on Test-Cerulean. People giving away poe and promotions left right and centre because there's no consequences if you mess up. And no "selling ..." spam. (I just skimmed through so I don't know if this has been suggested) To improve testing of Cerulean, they should have a trophy for people who spend more than 2 and a half hours on Cerulean. Herp. Derp. ---------------------------------------- Avatar by Cattrin :D

I think you're taking 'integration' a little too seriously. It doesn't matter if you put the oceans side-by-side or smoosh them both together so they cover one map. The point of the merge is to have both sets of players playing on the same server. Integration will happen in time. After a few days, a couple of West players will have ships on the East side, and vice versa. After a couple of weeks, even more stuff will be scattered about. Then OOO will switch blockades back on and there will be more travelling. Every job offer that appears on the jobbing board will be global, with pirates from both sides coming together. Then we have the memorisers. Those determined to mem the whole ocean now have a tonne of new routes to get charts for and mem. I don't think it makes much difference how far apart the islands are. In time, it will just be one big ocean. But time is the key factor. ---------------------------------------- Don't wait for the perfect moment, take a moment and make it perfect. |

Cerulean is useless for us(doublooners), indeed... What will we test there? It's not only about new features, (that's the smaller point) it's about a shock of oceans, a MASSIVE mix of people who never met(in most of cases). In Cerulean, people from Emerald and Meridian won't test what they want to, they won't meet the MASSIVE people and the islands they're supposed in the official merged ocean, that's the point I want you to see why doublooners won't get any test from the Cerulean, they won't live there when the official gets released. We almost don't see anybody there, no pillages, no SMH, people have to do things alone and it's boring. But there is a reason for that: Midnight and Colbat are subscribers oceans, they always have lesser people logged than doublooners ocean, much lesser, so it won't have many people to test. I hope OM's put real test for the doublooners, who are the most in this game. EDIT: Oh, just to say, I logged there now and I can't find any pirate or pillage, so how I'll explore the ocean without a boat and money? that's too sad for the players that doesn't played on Mid or Colbat once. ---------------------------------------- Egeu on the Sage Ocean SO in Pater Noster Member of Black Flag ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Piraatteun at Jan 7, 2012 11:39:35 AM] |

What is their any point in testing? There is nothing new coming out except a new route. Doubloon players and subscription players really do not have anything to test other than just making sure that their isn't any bugs.
What is their too explore? Log on Viridian, and buy a whisking potion and travel half the ocean. The new routes are just really hard inter-archs. ---------------------------------------- Captainrich |

http://forums.puzzlepirates.com/community/mvnforum/viewthread?thread=177955 As you can clearly see some bugs did arise from the test merge so it would seem like it was indeed a good idea to test it out first. There are a huge amount of little unforeseen things that could have gone wrong and it's nice to make sure things don't go boom-boom. |
