![]() Ahoy, ahoy! My fellow pirates, as duly elected* Secretary of the Treasure, I come before you today to announce some exciting upcoming changes to Puzzle Pirate shoppes, labor and the economy. Much like we did with the Department of Piracy Affairs' changes to pillaging a few months ago, we hope to keep you informed and involved during every step of this process to ensure a smooth transition to a more fun Puzzle Pirates! Shoppe Changes To start things off, in the coming weeks we intend to make some changes to the way orders are placed and handled by shoppes. While we are currently too early in the development process to lay things out specifically for you, we can certainly confirm the following...
Hermes Secretary of the Treasure *I elected to take the position just this morning, in fact. ![]() Secretary of the Treasure Hermes with Secretary of Piracy Affairs Desmond Q. Lorg ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Hermes at Jul 2, 2009 5:09:22 PM] |

![]() Item Repricing on Doubloon Oceans In addition to the bits outlined above, some news on a change that will already be in effect as you read this... As part of our ongoing effort to improve all aspects of the game experience, we recently conducted an analysis of the rate at which items are purchased by players. What we were most interested in was the relationship between price, the general 'usefulness' of the items in question, and how common a purchase they ended up being. Following that analysis, we've decided to slightly adjust the doubloon prices for certain items based on how they are used by the community. The majority of these adjustments are downward, hopefully bringing these items a bit more in reach of the average player, but there are also a few items whose strength appeared to warrant a slight increase in delivery cost. In the future, we expect to conduct similar reviews of usage and may make other adjustments. We expect these to also be incremental in nature (that is, never by more than 1 doubloon or 10%, whichever is greater) and involve both increases and decreases to doubloon pricing. For now, however, we chose to focus on the equippable group of items (swords, bludgeons and mugs) in order to be the least disruptive to players. For reference, the complete list of delivery fee adjustments is below... SWORDS Cleaver (12 -> 11) Scimitar (12 -> 11) Long Sword (9 -> 8) Rapier (7 -> 6) Falchion (7 -> 8) Stiletto (3 -> 4) BLUDGEONS Hammer (12 -> 11) Skull Rings (9 -> 8) Belaying Pin (3 -> 2) Rope (0 -> 1) MUGS Pitcher (4 -> 3) Flagon (4 -> 3) Chalice (6 -> 5) Skull (6 -> 5) Stein (4 -> 5) Horn (4 -> 5) Conclusion As always, we'd welcome any Clear, Concise and Constructive(TM) feedback you folks have on these changes, and have created a thread in the Game Design forum specifically for you to share it with us. Thanks for reading, and have fun in the game! Hermes Secretary of the Treasure ---------------------------------------- [Edit 4 times, last edit by Hermes at Jul 2, 2009 5:09:47 PM] |

![]() Reserve Labor With today's release comes the first part of our ongoing salvo of changes to the Puzzle Pirates economy: Reserve Labor! Now, shops and stalls alike will be able to pool and store their employees' labor for use in instantly completing future orders! For more information about the nuts and bolts, check out the official documentation. Note that as I previously mentioned on the Ice Discussion forums, while our intent is for the maximum labor reserve to use a constant multiplier for all shop types, for now, the labor reserve in tailoring shops and stalls is going to be be temporarily reduced to allow existing shopkeepers time to adjust to the new system. We will announce exactly when we intend to dial this rate back in line with the other industries on a later date. We will be monitoring all aspects of the economy in the coming days to see how this new system is fitting in, but in the meantime, we'd be very interested in hearing your experiences with Reserve Labor, as well as any questions or comments you have on this exciting change! I've started a new Game Design thread for just such feedback right over here. ![]() Furniture Repricing on Doubloon Oceans As part of the ongoing review of item usage that I outlined in a previous Department of the Treasure post, today we are adjusting the doubloon cost of a number of furniture items, as well as correcting what appeared to be an error in the previous slate of furniture delivery fees. As before, the majority of these adjustments are downward, in an effort to make these items more accessible to players. For reference, the complete list of delivery fee adjustments is below... ADJUSTMENTS Alchemicals 5 -> 4 Anchor 7 -> 6 Anvil 6 -> 5 Baroque painting 7 -> 6 Broken wheel 4 -> 3 Carven bench 8 -> 7 Carven chair 12 -> 11 Carven table 15 -> 14 Drinks with skull 5 -> 4 Drum 15 -> 14 Fancy bar segment (inward curve) 2 -> 3 Fancy bar segment (outward curve) 2 -> 3 Fancy bar segment (left end) 0 -> 1 Fancy bar segment (right end) 0 -> 1 Fancy bar segment (middle) 1 -> 2 Fancy wall lamp 9 -> 8 Globe 8 -> 7 Jars 3 -> 2 Jars and skull 6 -> 5 Loom 7 -> 6 Mixing skull 4 -> 3 Mortar and pestle 2 -> 1 Painting of admiral 7 -> 6 Painting of captain 6 -> 5 Painting of monarch 7 -> 6 Painting of palace 8 -> 7 Painting of ship 7 -> 6 Painting of woman 5 -> 4 Shark jaws 4 -> 3 Shipside painting 6 -> 5 Short fetish 7 -> 6 Skull 6 -> 5 Spinning wheel 6 -> 5 Spools 2 -> 1 Still 8 -> 7 Tools 4 -> 3 Tree tapestry 9 -> 8 Wall map 8 -> 7 CORRECTION During our investigations, we discovered that the intended delivery fees for the two versions of the square table have been incorrectly swapped since their inception! Don't worry, dear reader: the party responsible has been identified and flogged. We've now corrected this error, and dropped the new prices of both versions of the square and round tables down a doubloon. Phew! Broken round table 7 -> 6 Broken square table 9 -> 6 Square table 7 -> 8 Round table 9 -> 8 Conclusion It's been a whirlwind of activity over here at the Department of the Treasure recently, mates, but we're always interested in hearing your feedback on this and other changes to Puzzle Pirates over on the Game Design forum! Have a happy 4th of July weekend, and we'll see you on the high seas! ![]() Tax Increases on Dread Ringer-Controlled Islands In an effort to make up for a budget shortfall caused by a significant one-time loss* sustained this fiscal year, effective immediately, the building tax rate on all Ringer-owned islands will increase to 15%. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Hermes Secretary of the Treasure *A shipment of parrots labeled for export to the mainland escaped under mysterious circumstances.** **More seriously, however, this upward adjustment is done in an effort to make it easier for player-owned islands to compete with the tax rate on Ringer isles. We'll keep an eye on the effect this change has in the coming days and adjust things accordingly. |
