I don't have any renders yet, but for linking purposes I went ahead and made the thread. If you are planning on entering the 2008 Easter Egg Design Contest and would like to see a rendered version of your egg, post below. Please make sure your template is of the correct size (256x256 pixels) and structure (make sure your sides match up). Hopefully, this will cause less clutter in the Entry Thread for those that make multiple entries/changed entries.
Thank you. Anyone else able to help render or set up an awesome wiki page with the rendered entries would be wonderful. And I'll love you forever. ---------------------------------------- Shortyjack of the Midnight Ocean Avatar Shoppe ---------------------------------------- [Edit 2 times, last edit by Shorty_Jack at Jan 29, 2008 3:13:42 PM] |

Alright, so I downloaded the 3dsmax program, got it installed and all that good stuff.. now I am having issues getting it to work properly. I am following this walk-thru, but no image is showing up in the material editor box at the top when I input the image file in the bitmap area. Here are a couple screen shots of what I have going. screenie 1 In this screen shot, I don't have the map option until I click a pull down called cratetex. Then the map shows up in the 2nd screenie. screenie 2 At this point, nothing shows up in the area above for my image. Please .. anyone have any idea what I could be doing wrong or missing? ---------------------------------------- Fizz - SO in The Phoenix Warriors and Lady of Tyr's Own of Midnight Ocean ---

Fizz I'm having the same trouble and if my research and memory is right it's because of the plug in. Do you have the Illustrate plug in installed? ---------------------------------------- Shortyjack of the Midnight Ocean Avatar Shoppe |

I have a different problem, but I worked around it. I'm not using the plug in, I'm also using the default max renderer. The model provided is looking for a lot of unnecessary eternal graphic files that is making the material editor too heavy to load. So I just copied the mesh to a new project file, and started with a clear material editor load. I didn't have to re-map the egg, it retained the info from the original, but I did have to re-setup the 48.6 deg cam to match the render view & size of the original. Oh, and I'm using my old licensed 3DS max 6 - not the new 2008 demo, so I'm not sure if there is a compatibility issue. Try the plug-in. ---------------------------------------- Nordenx of Viridian ... Avatar Adventure! Mariner's Used |

Just tried it. That doesn't seem to be my problem. Basically, (and I'm assuming Fizz is going through this) the problem is when I open the material editor I can set everything correct matching the tutorial, but the top 6 (six on my screen) are pitch black. Even after I click apply under the parameters tab nothing happens. I tried viewing the file and dragging on top of the egg mesh, but that didn't work either. I seriously can't remember what I did when this happened to me last year. ---------------------------------------- Shortyjack of the Midnight Ocean Avatar Shoppe |

Yes.. that is what is happening to me. I downloaded the egg-mesh.max file from the events post.. after I have loaded that and go through the steps of the tutorial, nothing. I even went to here and downloaded Illustrate5.4.zip. (is that the plugin needed?) ---------------------------------------- Fizz - SO in The Phoenix Warriors and Lady of Tyr's Own of Midnight Ocean ---

*Ahem* http://forums.puzzlepirates.com/community/mvnforum/viewthread?p=970710#970710 It's a tad out of date, since I need a new place to host my streamlined version of the file, but it should be another good resource. I've got a few things to add, so maybe I'll write up a new version here when I make time. Edit: Here's Rhodin's egg, at official size, with the edge to it. (Fudged in, since my Illustrate! plugin trial expired from last year.) ![]() ---------------------------------------- Silveransom makes art like this or this & Blender Eggs! ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by SilveRansom at Jan 23, 2008 4:44:06 PM] |

I looked at that and I'm still lost. I even called up my friend who works with these programs for a living, but he's lost. Well he currently doesn't have 3dsmax on his computer, but gmax (or something). It's probably something so simple I'm missing it. Why couldn't I save my PMs from last year? Grr. ---------------------------------------- Shortyjack of the Midnight Ocean Avatar Shoppe |

Yeah, that's why I need to do a new version. I have a file that you can just open, go to the Material Editor and change the texture file, and hit F9 to get your render. It's faster and simpler, it just doesn't have the Illustrate! filter. That's something that I can't tinker with all that much given that I can't get the trial version again... I think. I'll try it out tomorrow. So... does anyone have a good place to host an egg file for a few months? Seriously. The Ringer egg file has a lot of stuff that you have to pare off, and can get lost in. Apollo let me clean it up for this contest specifically. ---------------------------------------- Silveransom makes art like this or this & Blender Eggs! ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by SilveRansom at Jan 23, 2008 4:51:53 PM] |

I have a server I can host on.. but it isn't public and you won't be able to upload it yourself. If you want to send me whatever it is .. I can upload it. It's about 1.2 meg. If that can work, I'd be happy to wing that file to you. Edit: I tried a free hosting service last year, and it was flaky, to say the least. Hopefully, we can get it out there without hangups. ---------------------------------------- Silveransom makes art like this or this & Blender Eggs! ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by SilveRansom at Jan 23, 2008 5:10:53 PM] |
