So many people, so much talent. o__O

Mine is a mini-comic kind of thing. :D Hope you enjoy it. Uhmm... rated PG-13 for blood! (Not Kraken's blood.)

The colored parrot is uh, the parrot that's supposed to be the highlight. Yeah. Maroon, black and white feathers.

I (for humours sake) misinterpreted Nemo's quote of "the nominal Y!PP bird, in possible colors" as "the nominal Y!PP bird, in ALL possible colors"

So here's my Warholian submission.
http://img19.photobucket.com/albums/v58/bobthewonderllama/birdy.jpg

I had the silly urge to do it in marker, but only had my Pantone Process CMYK marker set (don't worry if you don't know what Pantone is) So it was me and my 4 markers against the clock... and that's the result. Hope you all enjoy.

First, thanks to anyone who's mentioned that they like Both Free. *blushes*

Second, wow to everyone for putting forth the effort required to make such wonderful pieces.

Third, I find myself with some left-overs at this point. These are the parrots that don't make the cut, but I figure I'll never have a chance to post them somewhere (Unless someone can convince the Elfwood Mods that Parrots are not real animals), I may as well post a link to the folder. It's just for kicks, really. They might have made good entries with some more time, but I can't do it in the six hours left. So enjoy the scraps and doodles.

Thanks to Nemo for running this event, and good luck picking a winner!

Yar I wish the deadline was after the 4th of July weekend as I'm just beat from the long hours I've been putting in at work (have to go in tomorrow too). Anywho I wasn't really happy with how flat my original image was so I whipped up these lines (which unfortunately will remain uncolored for now)

http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v243/Milky2987/Pics/pirate_2.jpg

Also, as much as I tried to get the water to look realistic in my original image (http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v243/Milky2987/Pics/piratecolor.jpg) it just wasn't looking right, so I am submitting a cropped image as my final:

http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v243/Milky2987/Pics/pirate3.jpg

Anyway, no matter who wins, I had a lot of fun drawing Pirates and looking at other's drawn pirates, so cheers all around. I just wish I had more time :P

Well, you know how it is - given a deadline one tends to leave things until the last minute. Unfortunately here in the UK that last minute is 8am, and I'm here now coming up to 6am just getting this finished. Two hours to spare - not bad!

The title is "Yohoho! Parrot Pirates", and it takes the form of a one-page comic. Here we go:
http://www.neosaka.pizi.co.uk/parrot_pirates.jpg

If that fails, copying and pasting the following link should work:
http://www.geocities.com/ranma_bloke/parrot_pirates.jpg

If that also fails, then I have to go down to a horribly compressed .jpg on photobucket:
http://img6.photobucket.com/albums/v19/ranma-tim/Puzzle%20Pirates/parrot_pirates_small.jpg

I've been watching this thread grow and I've been alternately cowed and inspired by what I've seen - great work all round! I look forward to seeing it all gathered together in a section of the Fan Arrt. Once Nemo's head has been re-assembled.

I'm going to bed now. I may be some time.

Well I figured i should try at least right? These were created entirely in Photoshop, from a hand drawning and Photoshop tools. I tried a couple different backgrounds because i iked them all. Hope you do too.

Polly wants a Lego! Reply to this Post

Here we go! This was huge fun. I have never tried to use Lego for representational art before . . . The parrot is 27.5" high. It's stable on its base (within reason) and not terribly fragile . . . I will try to bring it to the party.

The colors are fairly closely based on the Blue and Yellow Macaw (Ara ararauna). The pose . . . I couldn't resist. Look sharp, down at the bottom, and ye'll see a Lego pirate for scale, and a Lego pirate parrot as well. I *had* to model me big Lego parrot on the little one . . . nothin' else woulda been fittin', arrr.

I know ye're supposed to use graph paper and so on when ye make models like this, but that woulda required puttin' down tha' Lego after I'd gotten started. So I just kept lookin' at me Lego and back at the little parrot, and it all worked out. Thank'ee, Ringers, fer pokin' me ta get me Lego out again . . .

Whew, talk about cutting it close. I managed to finish with a good hour to go though, so maybe I still have time to run out to Burgermaster and grab a shake or something. This one is done completely in Paint Shop Pro (33 layers!), and I sure hope that the eyedropper tool isn't considered piracy because if so, I be doomed. I also thank Marcy and Rojo for providing pictures used as a reference.

Please read this before you view the picture:

An old and probably thoroughly drunk one-eyed salt on the dock once wrote:

Somewhere in the far reaches of the Midnight ocean, near an archepilago known to few in these waters, there is an isle, upon which can be founda fabulous treasure, riches beyond your wildest imagination. Many a brave captain has sailed uncharted waters seeking after this treasure, and not a one has been seen ever again. It was a young lass I found adrift at sea that told me once the grim tale of her ill-fated journey serving under Captain Hakinslash to seek this treasure. After weeks at sea, and with the crew on the brink of mutiny, they came upon an island not found on any chart known to man. Assured of his victory, Captain Hakinslash weighed anchor, and made preparations to go ashore.

Suddenly, from out of the sky came a fearsome creature, diving at ther vessel. with eyes wild with bloodlust. The crew scrambled to put up a counter-attack, but it was in vain. The foul beast came at them with tormening flames and claws sharp as steel. Neither sword nor cannon could deter the infernal creature's unrelenting onslaught! A whole crew of some of the most fearsome piratres this ocean has to offer fell victim to that foul beast, and this poor lass alone lived to tell the sad tale of that fateful day.

I tell ye this tale as a warning, young swab. Beware, lest ye too fall victim to the cursed guardian of the Treasure of Conure Isle...

Whee! Here's my entry just under the line :) I blame work for attempting to distort my priorities! Obviously puzzle pirate artwork should come first. (see skal?! I posted! See?!)

Uhm - anyways. It's a bit of a twist. We've got parrot familiars - but whose to say they're not really the ones in charge? At least in their dreams ... eh? After all, they got how many pirates drawing pictures of'em?

Hee hee. Anyways - gorgeous entries, mates! Absolutely lovely. I swoon with artistic envy. Hopefully ye can enjoy mine as well :)
