Ship Sizes -again-
Before ye all go yelling booched, yes, I know there are posts about this already, but they are either outdated and no longer correct, or scattered to the winds such that it's difficult to get a complete listing without spending a considerable time digging through the forums.

It would be nice to know details about all the ship sizes while deciding which sizes to buy. I'm going to make a table of the things I already know from ships I have, and I'll update it with info that (hopefully) other people (like you!) will reply with below. Then perhaps we can get this sticky and we'll all know what we're getting when we go to buy a ship size we've never owned before. Or better yet, maybe it could even end up in the documentation! People certainly shouldn't have to get an Excelent in the forums searching puzzle to find this stuff.

Probably.

The 30 is the number from older forum posts. I don't have 60 mates to pile onto me Galleon, so I can't tell. Perhaps we should throw a party!

I believe this is accurate:

Maroon's Island ship list

That's forum-collected data and some of my own checking. It might be out of date, but I'll update it if folks provide corrected info.

Some of it will be outdated by now (cannon numbers esp.) but otherwise it should be perfectly accurate.

Aye, except for what's wrong, it's spot on. :p

Grand Frigates hold up to 150 pirates. For a tasty treat, fill two to bursting and smash'em together!

Merchant Galleon has 21 carp stations, not 12.

Yes, 21. And by my estimation, we need at least 10-12 of them filled to keep from sinking.

Eek.

More likely 24, seeing all ships have guns to a multiple of four able to be loaded. I'm not sure how many stations it would have, though...

There are most assuredly 9 sails and 10 guns on a Merchant Galleon. Just counted... When ye do it, try holding down the 'ALT' key. Makes it harder to miss one.

Re: Ship Sizes -again-
Okay, now my question for all you smartsy people is how many shots does it take to get maximum damage on each vessel (this is really the only thing I care about anyway hehe when thinking of a ship)? Yeah, there are now three different cannonballs sizes... but whatever.

To eliminate all confusion:

Frigates = Large

This includes both the War & Grand Frigates, but also the Merchant Galleon.

That would depend on the skill of the carpenters on board.

Changed numbers, matey!
So here be the new numbers for our beloved merchant galleon:
5 booty chests
14 carp stations
9 sails
10 guns
14 bilge
1 drinking puzzle
1 nav table
5 hold access spots

All the deck-level carp stations were removed, so only the below-decks ones are now active. A few sail positions were moved around, but the number didn't change, and we lost our tiny gun on the back deck. It was so cute - but had no way of shooting large cannonballs :(

This is since the recent update, mind. Have fun, mateys!

Re: Ship Sizes -again-
Ok, at what point does a ship to be considered full? I've looked n looked but can't find it.

The number in the "Pirates" column tells the maximum number of pirates allowed on each type of ship. After that number is reached, the ship is considered "full" and no more pirates may come aboard. So, for instance, a Sloop would be considered full if there are 7 pirates aboard; even if only 3 are working and the other 4 are lazing about playing the Drinking puzzle with each other, it's still considered full and no one else may come aboard. Hence the need for a /plank command to get rid of scurvy currs who are just taking up space. Hope this answers yer question.

And thanks to ye, Baldwin, 'tis a great resource.

Depends on whether yer talking max damage blocks, or max damage in the sense of pegging the meter and sinking the ship. Carpentry doesn't clear the blocks from the sword-fight screen.

Additional info for chart
We can use a little more information on that chat.

Two new columns, "Peace excess/shortage", and "War excess/shortage".

In peace, for example, you need sails, and some carping. I'm not experienced enough to know if you need all the carping, or how much/if any bilging. Nor do I have any idea how much per ship it varies -- most of my experience is on smaller ships (150 people!?!? God, what a swordfight. Stick 10 on 1, and just go for sprinkles :-).

In war, however, you need everything. You need cannons reloaded, damaged repaired. You need all the bilging and sailing to move on the battle board. In short, you need to man every station.

Now, the small ships can't man every station. The largest have people left over after manning every station.

So, how about some indication of how much shortage/surplus the ships have in peace and in war?

Michael

It's linked from Artemis' FAQ, and the FAQ is sticky. There's lots of good stuff in there. You should check it out.
