[Contest] Who Wants to be Hades' Governor?
Hades, Lord of the Underworld, needs your help!

He has taken control of Jorvik Island (Midnight) and Sakejima Island (Cobalt and Viridian) to establish his vacation home, but he doesn't know what else to do.

This is where you come in.

Players are requested to draft a plan of action. This will detail how they propose the island in question will be run. Put your thinking caps on, and get creative!

The rules:

1. Draft up a plan for how you would manage and run an island.

2. See the judging criteria below and the example plan to get an idea of how to go about with this.

3. Players must include the name of their pirate and ocean of play. The plans should be specific to the island on that ocean.

4. Entries are due on October 24th at 11:59 pm, Pacific Time.

5. Post entries to this thread. The thread will be locked at the deadline.

The judging:

The judges will consider all plans with the following criteria, in roughly this order of importance:

1. Feasibility. The plans should be possible to put into action under the current rules of the game.

2. Independence. While some OM assistance is available, plans which can be put into action without such will be valued more highly.

3. Creativity. Original and unique ideas will be valued more.

4. Fun. Creative ways of conveying the plan (without losing clarity) are good for brownie points.

An Example Plan

Hecubus came up with this one, but it sucks, so we fired him.

Plan to install Master upon the throne of Jorvik!

Using spoons, we shall tunnel under the island and undermine the foundations of the very palace itself.

When the palace crumbles, we shall step in and save the people from their inevitable tumble towards barbarism.

After we build a new citidel to the master, we shall tax them into oblivion.

Upon a mountain of our crushed underlings, we will relax with pina coladas and enjoy our well-earned vacation.

Master will be pleasured by 71 alabaster virgins. I shall take one of the extras for myself.

The prizes:

The winners will get a chance to put their plan into action. That's right, if you win, you get to be Governor. The best entry for each ocean will grant the entrant the power over a whole island.

Other prizes as appropiate.

Rules for the prizes:

1. You must have a free slot for a pirate. You will create a character who will be entered into Death's Gate (Hades' crew). This character will have a white name. If needed, we can move a character from your account to make space.

2. This character will be made governor of the island

3. This character will be used to carry out the plan.

4. The player must remain in-character.

5. The player must do his or her best to stick to the plan proposed.

6. The player must stay active with the governor character.

7. Within reason, Hades is able to provide prizes for events and contests planned and run by the Governor.

If the plan involves furniture or giving away billions of poe, will they be provided by the OMs or do we have to get it ourselves?

Re: [Contest] Who Wants to be Hades' Governor?
How long is the plan suppossed to be? 1 month? 6 months? A year?

EDIT: Which Island? The post never specifies if the contest is for one or for all 3.

EDIT 2: Who are the judges?

What about us Sagers?

It's a bit early for Sage.

Will the Island be blockadable once the new Governor is installed?

Not initially. At some point the islands may be opened, however.

If the plan involves furniture or giving away billions of poe, will they be provided by the OMs or do we have to get it ourselves?

We'll probably favor plans that don't require a lot of OM support, but that doesn't mean support will be lacking.

How long is the plan suppossed to be?

That isn't defined. Some plans may only cover a few months, some may be very long term. We're not going to limit you to one or the other.

Which Island? The post never specifies if the contest is for one or for all 3.

Who are the judges?

Hades and myself. We may bring in some additional judges.

Silly question:

Can the winner use one of their current alts as the governor?

I play on two oceans, so I can enter for both? If I win for Sakjewima in Vid can I govern Jorvik in Mid?

I think I'd prefer your governor alt to be dedicated to the governing. And you might want one that's thematically appropiate.

You can enter for both. I don't think we'll be letting anyone win more than one governorship, but if your entries are so good that they're the best, we may let you choose which one.

You'll be seeing me in this post some other time!

Make sure you post your entries to the proper thread!

Also, as an added help, we've got the .xml file for sakejima available for people to peruse and play around with in the island editor. You can grab it from here.

You can find Nemo's original post with links to all the island design tools here.

No, you will not have to blockade it first to win, however this is an OceanMaster event, I believe, as Hades (Developer or OceanMaster?) took over the island, I will not reveal the truth as some already know. And it is real. Contest info can be found here at the top of the page. :)

Re: [Contest] Who Wants to be Hades' Governor?
Rule of thumb on familiar events (Used to be accurate, should still be close).

Anyone that can design and organize a large event that will appeal to a large group of the ocean can ask the OM's by PM/Petition if it can be made a familiar event. Normally they will require that you've done a trial run to show that the kinks have been worked out, and will require that you've run other large events so that you have experience doing it.

About one such event per month per ocean is the highest rate that such events can be held.

That's certainly possible, but any event would have to be up to the standards of other familiar events in order to qualify a familiar prize. By all means, I'd love to see someone come up with something to knock my socks off.

It's looking good so far. I don't think there'd be a problem with people commenting on entries. Think we should add a commentary thread?

i think a commentary thread would be quite useful...
now i just have to figure out a contest good enough for a familiar...

Re: [Contest] Who Wants to be Hades' Governor?
Is there a required or "suggested" length of our plan? Should i plan out regular events that would continue for months, or a series of events leading to an ending? Or are both acceptable?

Make them cover as much ground as you like. While I can't guarantee that you'll be able to put the entirety of a plan that runs for months and months into effect, that won't nix a plan from the get-go. If you've got a plan that can be run and implemented entirely in three days, cool. If it takes eight months, also cool. Just make sure it's a good plan.

Also I'm guessing Sakejimma's taxes are at 0% right now?

That's correct. Jorvik also has 0%.

I've set up a commentary thread here. Use that if you want to talk about the entries. While I can't say we'll be swayed by the public opinion, we may take it into consideration for the judging.

Also, I've noticed some of the entries have been split between parts 1 and 2 or somesuch. Please don't do this. If you want to add to your entry, go and edit the original post. To make things easier for the judging, I may ask an OM to go and splice together posts, but that's not really what they're there for, so if anyone who has split them could pop them together, that'd be excellent.

Yes, I've noted that, also. It may make it harder for the judges to see Part 1 of 2 , then they have to go through the entries to find Part 2, so I also agree to you, Minthe, to not do this. :)

O'Reilly- midnight

Aleswash- Arctic Blades

O'Reilly Island, a far side outpost where many pirates like to forage. sadly no islands around it can restock you or anything so you have to stock up huge for a trip like that. iI i want to run it so it can be a popular rest stop for ships out of rum or shot. it might also bring many ships to that archapelago. It has a natrual defence agest blockades because you can only get to it through two islands of uninhabitence. I would use my island as a rest stop of some form but hopfuly make it into a highly populated island. i would use it to help piates really nothing more, just to help my fellow pirates.

Can we edit our entry as many times as we wish to make changes before the deadline?

Also, Grogbar, if the following is your entry, please repost in the appropiate thread and it is a contest to Govern Jorvik on Midnight, not O'Reilly:
