We really need better crew management Reply to this Post

With Rifkind's post and a few other things in game it's reminded me of how badly the way crews are managed needs to be changed. Right now the only real option for a crew is to use autocratic. The other options make it take too much time to really get anything done in the crew, but with autocratic you can only have ONE person in control. This makes it really hard for the crew captain because they have to do every single promotion while also having to deal with money management and all that stuff.

Here's what I'm suggesting:

a) Make more ranks so that a captain can have someone under them with practically the same amount of control as them, except really top level captain things. This way you could promote a couple of your officers that really show dedication and allow them to run the micro-management of the crew while you concentrate on other important things.

or

(even better)

b) Make the ranks fully adjustable so that the captain can add and remove ranks and set what each rank can do. This way, each crew would be able to choose completely how their crew was set up and make sure that it is run how they want it to be run. We really need a way to allow some people to be "Officers in Training" or something so that they can get a handle on navigation and sea battle without actually having the ability to mess with money in the hold, or taking a ship out by themselves. If you gave the players tools to do things like this then I can only see the game getting much better from it. If you're worried about stupid rank names like "SPECIAL ED HURR" then you could just have a drop down of titles and prefixes/suffixes to add to them.

Anyway, this really seems to me like something that needs to be addressed. The dependance on one single person to do all the work is really too much. Sure, you can use democratic or the other options where people vote, but that really makes everything go way too slow and doesn't work. We need a system where multiple people can have the power to make changes immediately so that things can actually get done when they need to be done.

Somebody else can put in all the links to this long-discussed idea.

Maybe we should start a rating system for the message boards as well. An original, well written idea? Excellent. Asking a question that has been asked MANY times already? Booched.

Lots of booched.

the kinda ironic thing is that xel obviously has read the most recent thread about the topic where jest about all the suggestions were discussed.
