(REPOST!) Treasure Hunt: Eye of the Angels (find it by Dec. 24th, 10am pst)

(REPOST) Midnight Treasure Hunters:
Eye of the Angels

I will recall this treasure by December 24th, 10am PST

Please read the rules thoroughly before posting

~*~GT: Eye of the Angels~*~

Such a firey passion my love and I shared...it was a secret affair that know scholar or book has ever reported. And while she enjoyed only the finest things in life, she decided upon this treasure to immortalize that ravenous week of lust...sadly, all that remains of my failing memory is this letter she left with me. All the clues you will need are there within.

-----------The Letter-----------

Dear Priam, my love~

One day, after the mortal world puts out its candles, we will meet again. It will be the eighth day: the day that lingers just beyond the day of rest. We will lie beneath the eternal night sky that showers it's five-point stars upon our reunion.

The four worlds will collide, the four greater spirits of the world we once sailed: North, East, South, and West. And as they wrap themselves into one, those nine days where we were indeed one, will bloom into nine lifetimes. And the two of us will taste infinite love, there under the eternal shower of five-point stars.

With this letter, my love, you will always have everything you need to recall this gift I impart to you. But remember, it's not about the letters we share...it's about the breadth of my love for you, which is a number too great to measure...or perhaps not ;P

Fairwell dear Priam,
call me anytime,

M

Out of curiosity, will those who participate be told how their answers fare (right/wrong), or... yeah.

Let's see if/how this gets answered:)

By asking for a color, can we correctly assume that the treasure in question exists in different colors? Could the request for a color as part of the answer be a ruse and the item actually only exist in a standard color(s)?

I seriously doubt KP will answer and give anything away, but prior puzzles attest to the fact that he is willing to ask for the color of a one-color item as a ruse. After all, he asked for the color for the Blood Stone, and coal trinkets only come in black.

Indeed.

I thought I had it dead-on, too. Apparently, not... unless he's not posting it until tomorrow, which from past he's never done (he's always announced the winner(s) soon after it was guessed).

Then I guess I'm just unobservant.

But, with that being said...

How do you like the whole "PM instead of post"? To me, it just seems a bit like too much work, especially if I have to think of it by myself.

Granted, posting does leave it open to other people to copy things, but... I still like to see what other people say, and it does encourage people to make sure they get correct answers, if they are one of the first people.

Whedonella wrote:
Ah Paris,

I can only hope other pirates have applied their sharp wits to this puzzle for mine are dulled! I send this missive in the midst of holiday festivities and hope that your own celebrations are wonderful indeed.

Your father's lover was quite clever in her mentioning of numbers: 1, 8, 5, 4, 4, 1, 9, 1, 9, 2 and 5. When all the numbers in each sentence are added together we get 1, 8, 5, 8, 20 and 7 or to use their corresponding letters of the alphabet : A H E H T G

Now these letters can be rearranged to spell THE HAG. One is tempted to think of Artemis, since "hag" is a term often applied to witches. But of course, Artemis was cleared of those charges against her and in addition is well known to be a virgin. And the letter was signed with the initial M. Could Priam's pet name for her have been 'Mis? Possible, or if this dalliance happened while the wily Magog held her entranced could she have signed "M" for Magog?

I dismissed this and went through a whole theory about "the hag" meaning festival in Hebrew, as Hanukkah or the festival of lights is often referred to, and the eye of the angel being Etz (the tree of life, written in Hebrew with two letters which by themselves mean "eye" and "righteous one") . . . Oh it was a merry path I strayed down, but the stars were five pointed not six. Pentagrams not Stars of David, which only led me back to witches . . .

Medea, was daughter of Circe and a witch. On the other hand, while not a witch, Mnemosyne had a thing for nine night love affairs. But still nothing made sense.

So I return to Artemis, who surely would have wanted such a love affair, however passionate, kept quiet.

The Daisy or Day's Eye was dedicated to Artemis by the ancients. It could be the Eye of the Angel. There is mention of measuring love (possibly counting petals?). It could be, it could be . . . . but what colour? Angels are often imagined as gold or white, but Priam's lover makes so many references to the night sky that I am made bold . . .

So finally, as the sands of time run out, I wonder if this is King Priam's treasure:

The treasure is a daisy
Its colour is black like the infinite night sky
And Priam's secret love was Artemis.

Best,

Whedonella

The name is a partial anagram of KING PRIAM. The amount of letter shared is not the same according to the last line "But remember, it's not about the letters we share...it's about the breadth of my love for you, which is a number too great to measure...or perhaps not". The letters M, A, G, I, which of course ties in conveniantly with the holidays "The gift of the Magi"

My Work? I first thought the treasure was Roman because of the reference to a nine-day week, or nundinae, and from the reference to North, South, East, and West wrapping themselves into one, such as with the expansion of the Roman Empire. Next I focused on the showers of five-point stars. It turns out that the ceilings of Ancient Egyptian tombs were painted with five-point stars, so this matched with not only the stars but also the reference to death being infinite and eternal. Then came the inference that their love is measurable and it turns out that in the Ancient Egyptian measurement system the Eye of Horus represented a fractional quantification system to measure parts of a whole. The stone tablet furniture piece has the Eye of Horus engraved on it. To punctuate this, the treasure is named 'Eye' of the Angels.

All stone tablets are gray in color, with the Eye of Horus being darker gray on a lighter gray background.

"My love" is clearly Priam himself as the letter is addressed to "Priam, my love" and in the third paragraph the writer refers to the recipient as "my love."

****hm... who would dare call us mortals... oh of course, those great ones above us! dare i say it... an OM? they must dread their work, which must be done after the 7th day, which we are asked to rest. on the 8th day they continue their work, but it seems this particular one doesnt have much work to do if he/she wishes to lie under the sky... but what is this with the five-point stars? what else but a simple starfish!****

The four worlds will collide, the four greater spirits of the world we once sailed: North, East, South, and West. And as they wrap themselves into one, those nine days where we were indeed one, will bloom into nine lifetimes. And the two of us will taste infinite love, there under the eternal shower of five-point stars.

****this is but a simple allusion to more stars. N, E, S, and W all come together on a compass, which sailors use to navigate. a common compass star has 8 directions, as well as the center point that can be used as a direction 'here'. the 9 directions are combined onto this star which can lead in 9 initial ways but then stray off infinitely to wherever life takes its course, always under the sky that is always there.****

With this letter, my love, you will always have everything you need to recall this gift I impart to you. But remember, it's not about the letters we share...it's about the breadth of my love for you, which is a number too great to measure...or perhaps not ;P

****could this be a reference telling us to recall the last Greater Treasure? hmm, not about the letters... numbers too great to measure or really not... definately sounds like the past GT with the number code and its colorations... wait, no one figured out the color exactly... must this mean that the color will once again be yellow?****

Fairwell dear Priam,
call me anytime,

M

****referencing back to the OMs... what OM has the letter M begin their name... Mnemosyne? that seems the only one! and she controls trinket tourneys (YPPedia) so a starfish would make sense. mother of -9- muses, -memories- come or gone by way of -two- rivers, it all comes together now! 9 lifetimes for the muses, the fading memory and the letter itself for the memories, the two rivers of memory referring to the love between KP and M... makes sense to me!****

Taking all of the numbers that show up in the letter in order, you get this string:

18544191925

If you separate this out and then do a simple number-letter substitution, you get the following:

18-5-4 4-1-9-19-25 = red daisy

As for who sent the letter, look at the lines: "the day that lingers just beyond the day of rest. We will lie beneath the eternal night sky that showers it's five-point stars upon our reunion."

This sounds to me like a dream and the god of dreams is Morpheus. Dear Priam indicated that his love was a woman which would be quite possible as Morpheus can take any human form, including that of Priam's dream woman.

Thus, my final answer is as follows:

What is the treasure? A daisy

What is its color? Red

What is the name of my love? Morpheus

What is the treasure? stone tablet
<stone tablets were used to document history (know scholars) and were used by Babylonians in writing calculations, also used to determine high noon depending on spot;

one - day; two - two of you; three - line by Angel Eyes from Buono, il brutto, il cattivo, Il: I thought three was the perfect number; four - four worlds; five - five-point star; 6 - six songs on Angel Eyes (Gene Ammons); 7 - days (week of lust); 8 - days that linger beyond day of rest; 9 - nine lives; one to nine is present - was thinking if this was a factor but think not lol>

What is its color? gray

What is the name of my love? Medea (granddaughter of sun god Helios - firey; pentagram shows when apple is transversally cut through core --> apply is symbol of Kore ~ Core, another name of Persephone who is queen of underworld alongside Hecate, Hecate the one who was called upon by Medea in the play Medea by Euripides -- see wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentagram)

Red Daisy comes from the numbers in the first two paragraphs of the letter. 1 8, 5, 4, 4, 1, 9, 1 9, 2 5

The love is Mnemosyne, from wikipedia:Zeus lay with Mnemosyne for nine consecutive nights and thereby created the nine muses.
Nine days bloom into nine lives and the starting letter of her name M.

The treasure is a harpsichord.

The colour is red

The name of your love is Daisy.

Workings:
eternal sky - black keys
five points stars - 5 white (opposite of a piano)
at the center of a harpsichord is the rose. North South East West come together to form a compass rose.

the colour and name come from the numbers in the letter (One day, eigth day, five-pointed, four world ...).
1 8 5 4/ 4 1 9 1 9 2 5

18, 5, 4 from alphabet = red
4, 1, 9, 19, 25 = daisy

-----------The Letter-----------

Dear Priam, my love~

One day, after the mortal world puts out its candles, we will meet again. It will be the eighth day: the day that lingers just beyond the day of rest. The 8th day being the day after it all ends: useless, really, for this puzzle. We will lie beneath the eternal night sky that showers it's five-point stars upon our reunion.

5-point stars, falling? Like in Navigation? Well, the 5-point stars are red...

The four worlds will collide, the four greater spirits of the world we once sailed: North, East, South, and West. And as they wrap themselves into one, those nine days where we were indeed one, will bloom into nine lifetimes. And the two of us will taste infinite love, there under the eternal shower of five-point stars.

It will bloom into 9? As in, flowers?

With this letter, my love, you will always have everything you need to recall this gift I impart to you. But remember, it's not about the letters we share...it's about the breadth of my love for you, which is a number too great to measure...or perhaps not ;P

A number which is great? As in, perhaps, many items?

Fairwell dear Priam,

AND THE MOMENT YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR...
Well, it seems you're ALL a bunch of smarties now, aren't you?

And while many of you cracked the number code to find the words "Red Daisy"...everyone seems to have been taken for a ride on my loves name...

M.

Teheheh, I thought this was gonna the cherry on the top, not the axe that would drop!

Ryanne nearly got it, when she said my love's name was "Daisy"...though it was signed with the initial "M."....if she had guessed the first part correctly I might have said she won the whole kabang!

For Daisy = Margaret. Why would Daisy be short for Margaret? Someone can look it up and share that little tidbit with you all.

Thus was the reason for the Daisy in the first place. It was meant as an eternal reminder of HER...

Seeing as several people ALMOST got it (and there were very many wonderful answers that almost convinced ME!), I can't simply award it to the closest hunter. So, I will have to come up with some super-weird and fun-whacky way for you all to win it!

In the meantime, the next puzzle will be on the way soon! I know Xmas is coming and I don't want to cut into any of your Holidays!

Everyone I quoted above will be awarded a prize that is worth 1,000 PoE or less. Not much, but Xmas tournies killed my stash! Find me on the Ocean and we'll go shopping :)

Stay Tuned on how you can get your hands on the Eye of the Angels!

Quoted from http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Daisy ...

The girl's name Daisy is pronounced DAY-zee. Often used as a nickname for Margaret, where in France, the flower is called a "marguerite".
