Yeah, definately try out Jasc Paint Shop Pro. It has many of the same options as Adobe (plus a few that Adobe doesn't), and it's far cheaper. In fact you might even be able to get it for free. I think there's still some shareware versions of it floating around.

Hope that helps! :D

Both are pencil sketches and Photoshop (with Wacom tablet). Click the image to see a significantly larger version.

More art forthcoming as I work on avatars and portraits for crewmates.

Yes, like noses. And some of the clothing detail - it's hard to see in-game, and I've tried everything I can think of - even creating an alt for 10 minutes just to pose in rack clothing and looking at the ordering interface. (It's amazing how far you can zoom in on a bitmap and have it still look somewhat-okay.)

Thanks for the compliments, guys. I enjoy doing this stuff. :)

Yeah...I love my tablet, but have a serial connection...so I can't be OL and draw at the same time...which stinks.
How are you dealing with that issue? USB?

If you, or anyone is interested, this is the program I'm using instead of Photoshop:
openCanvas (right-click and save as.)

It is in japanese, but ther is a option to make it behave in English. It's small, a little bigger than MSPaint, but really powerful. This is a free version, so don't worry about spreading it around. Great if you are used to using pencils to draw with.

Photoshop is nice, but this...so sweet.

Aye, I've a USB tablet. Wacom, 4x6, been through at least two owners before me (I bought it off someone at school, who got it refurbished), and works beautifully. I actually use it to play PP with - it's the best tool I've got for bilging. :)

I've heard excellent things about OpenCanvas - thanks for the link! Time to add yet another art program to my list of things to play with this summer.

I'm intrigued by the deconstructionist choice to include the name block, but not the words.

Well, the name of the image is greeterngreenie, so it's useful to know that one's a greeter and one's a greenie. Names don't really matter (though who the greeter is is pretty obvious :-P)

In any case, when I did my self-portrait I didn't put my name block in:

I kinda cheated for these because I used that tracing paper deal on ArtRage, but since I have no artistic talent, I like 'em anyway.

I'm working on my portfolio for an art school and one of the required things in it are hands. An instructor at the school suggested to draw the bone structure frist and then add skin over top and that it will look much more realistic that way. So I've got a few sketches. Critique would be loved.
Warning: Hands now terrify me after doing this skeleton thing...

Not bad. I'd go back to drawing from life now, with the knowledge you've built from the bone drawings.

Satangelical, I can't get that to work, even with the click-the-link-then-hit-go trick that usually makes Geocities work. :(

Xephin, those are creepy and I want them off my screen. :)

And now for another random piece from me: an avatar for Ivy, one of my flagmates. http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/8575515/ is the large image, and I posted the avatar to the avatar thread. (Whee, duplicate postings!) I have to thank Obaba muchly for openCanvas and recommend it highly for sketching (though I'm not fond of coloring on it yet).

Still working on pieces for flagmates, so I'll be cluttering the thread some more later.
