Firewall and Connection Problems

What Ports does Yohoho! use? I am behind a Firewall.
Puzzle Pirates uses TCP incoming and outgoing over Port 4007, along with port 80 for in-game web pages.

Y'know, I'm behind a firewall, and I never opened anything, and Y!PP still works. I wonder if I'm missing anything...

I think as long as your firewall allows most outbound connections, it's fine. I would imagine that Port 4007 is actually a stream initiated from the user's machine to the YPP server, and then once the channel is open, it's used for all communications.

(Otherwise, you need to either open up things in both directions, or have a "Stateful" firewall that can auto-adjust the incoming ruleset based on outgoing connections.)

Your firewall isn't that strict, I suppose.

And if you are ever unsure of a game or what not's port then run cmd in the background and while you are trying to connect type netstat and it gives you all the ports in which you are trying to connect to, then just go to your firewall and enable those ports.

Actually, it's better than a firewall - I have a routing switch between my in-home network and the internet. Incoming connections are simply not possible.

I agree that the only reason it works is that the switch does not block outgoing connections, as some firewalls would, and that's why Y!PP works. Only way it could, even, so I was being a bit facetious.

How do you open a port? I just recently got a DSL line. Could that be the problem?

4-year bump.

Is the original answer to this question stil valid? There have been a lot of changes since then, including a server migration.

Servers were migrated resulting in new addresses, but the ports have remained the same.
