AH invites you to a Puzzling Bake-off! Reply to this Post

TLDR:
We're doing a puzzling bake-off with a bunch of the stations. There are fabulous prizes. You should join.

Date & Time:
April 8, 2018 @ 12 pm GT

Format:
Amateur Hour (in our blockade crew, Thinking Face) will be taking 2 GFs out to sea with 16 people on each. Jobbing will be entirely based on the first 32 people to apply to the GFs and will begin at 12 pm GT. People will be randomly assigned to one of the two GFs by myself or Aeri (we'll likely be on alts and will announce the names before the competition).

Once the ships have loaded, the two GFs will engage. For the first 15 minutes, everyone competing will sail. After 15 minutes, the GFs will disengage and points will be awarded based on everyone?s position on the DR (see the points section).

The GFs will then re-engage. Individuals will carp for 15 minutes, at which point, the GFs will disengage and individuals will be awarded points based on their position on the DR (see the points section).

The GFs will then re-engage... again. I?m sure you know where we?re going with this. At this point, all 32 people will be bilging. They?ll bilge for 15 minutes. The GFs will disengage, and individuals will be awarded points based on their position on the DR (see the points section).

Next, the 32 puzzlers will rig during a re-engage battle. After 15 minutes of rigging, individuals will be awarded points based on their position on the DR (see the points section).

Then, the GFs will re-engage and all 32 puzzlers will be asked to patch. After 15 minutes of patching, individuals will be awarded points based on their position on the DR (see the points section).

Finally, the GFs will re-engage and individuals will be given a turn to gun one at a time. Competitors will be timed on how long it takes them to load all 24 cannons. After everyone has had their turn gunning, individuals will ranked based on the amount of time it took them to load 24 cannons (the less time, the better) and will be awarded points based on their ranking (see the points section).

Note: For all of the 15 minute segments, competitors will be informed of how much time has elapsed based on whistles. There will be 1 whistle at the 10 minute remaining mark, 1 whistle at the 5 minute remaining mark, and 2 whistles at the 1 minute remaining mark.

After all stations have been completed, points will be tabulated, and the individuals who have the most points, second-most points, and third-most points (regardless of which GF you were jobbed to - you will be competing across both ships) will receive prizes :).

In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined by the most first place finishes.

Disqualification:
If anyone is found to be cheating/botting, you will be disqualified. Additionally, any puzzler who abandons a station, even if it's due to a disconnect, in the middle of one of the 15 minute sessions will be disqualified.

Prizes:
  • 1st Place - Unnamed White/Peach Spider + 1 War Brig +100k
  • 2nd Place - 1 War Brig +50k
  • 3rd Place - Unnamed Grey/Peach Pelican + 25k
Points:
Points will be awarded based on where each individual scores on the DR. Each competitor will be awarded points in reverse descending order based on position in the DR as follows:
1. 16 points
2. 15 points
3. 14 points
4. 13 points
5. 12 points
6. 11 points
7. 10 points
8. 9 points
9. 8 points
10. 7 points
11. 6 points
12. 5 points
13. 4 points
14. 3 points
15. 2 points
16. 1 point

Edits: formatting woes. Even though I previewed it like 8 times ._.

How exactly would you determine if someone was cheating/botting in order to disqualify them?
----------------------------------------
Pirate tells you, "my, that's one BIG wad o' chewing gum ye have mounted on yer bonce! oO'"
Sungod officer chats, "I wonder if anyone's sailing the harpsichord"
Pirate tells you, "ZOMG CANDYFLOSS!!! *munches*"

Can the gunner choose their board in the beginning? Or do they have to work with the first board they get?

Opsat on all oceans.
(Also Opsat-East on Emerald and Meridian, and Opsat-West on Cerulean.)
And on Obsidian: Opsat, Meghost, and Meshadow.

Ultimately we have no way to prove that someone is cheating/botting short of them getting banned during the event, we would hope people don't feel the need to stoop to those levels.

The gunner will have to load 24 cannons one way or another so regarding choosing a board that's their risk but there is no real benefit, the timer starts the second they get on the station and ends as soon as there are 24 cannons loaded.

Update. Aeri was unavailable, so Greyscale will be helping me host this event. He'll be on Trashscale. I will be on Sinkyfun.

Looking forward to seeing you all there!
