cutlass and saber - new pattern suggestions Reply to this Post
Reply with Quote

as detailed in this thread, the current patterns for both cutlass and saber are exceptionally weak.

in the same thread, some suggestions were made for improving those two swords a bit.

the suggestions from that thread are displayed in this posting; i copied them here: http://www.puzzlepirates.com/community/mvnforum/viewthread?p=8675#8675

The cutlass:
Current:
[size=9]
[size=9]
[size=9]
[size=9]
[size=9]
[size=9]

Proposed:
[size=9]
[size=9]
[size=9]
[size=9]
[size=9]
[size=9]

The saber:
Current:
[size=9]
[size=9]
[size=9]
[size=9]
[size=9]
[size=9]

Proposed:
[size=9]
[size=9]
[size=9]
[size=9]
[size=9]
[size=9]

Alternative:
[size=9]
[size=9]
[size=9]
[size=9]
[size=9]
[size=9]

another suggestion for a new saber by me was this:

hethor suggested this change of the above pattern:

since the other thread is rather long with postings on other sword-related topics, i think a fresh one dedicated to these two blades would be better.

so what do ye all think about these? balanced? too strong? too weak? would ye like to see them in the game?

Edit:dumb me jest figured out i could just use quote to get the images over.

The image code? You mean if I make my own suggestions?

I think I'd prefer it if there weren't a 4-color sword but in the scimitar. Perhaps change that blue to green so that column is three-color?

Nemo said he was going to get both patterns changed, but that was back at the beginning of August. Maybe he forgot, or maybe its just a ways down on the list?

I can't wait for the pattern for the saber to be changed. I bought one without knowing what its pattern was, only to find out it was horrible.

Thanks for reviving the topic garf! :)

Yes, I actually asked garf to revive (and streamline) the suggestions so that a viable change could be implemented. I will likely put the agreed-upon changes in for the next release.

for the saber, the last of the above suggestions (hethors suggested change on me second proposal) is me current favorite. it seems to fit in nicely between falchion and scimitar regarding sword strength vs sprinkle variation.

i left out hethors suggestion on the cutlass since it was already agreed on that it would be too strong for a blade of its class; the above suggestion was already perceived well by anyone who commented.

most of the proposals are reall nice, even though i wouldnt like the saber to have a 4color sword(in one of the last proposals..), because it may be too strong.
You should still think about the fact, that the minerals needed for the sword should be rare/expensive enough to match its strenght.

And if ye are already changin patterns.. give the cleaver a little fix, the rightsolid one is a little too strong in my opinion, even though its hard to get it now, there are still plenty among the pirates.
Of course, due to its price it should still be a very good strong, thats why i wouldnt change too much.
As im not into these colorstuff ill just explain my proposal shortly:
I think a very small change would be to change the 5.th column in a way to make that 3 color sword not abac but more like baac, so these 3 color swords arent that nasty anymore, but still very good.
I would not remove the 3 color sword at all, because that would make too much of adifference, and leftsolid cleaver owners would only be left with some better shortsword.. ;)
But i defenitely think the cleaver needs a little nerfing ;)

The new Cutlass pattern is nice. I approve. :)

As for sabers, since I own one, all I can say is YAY!

I guess Hethors is likely the most balanced, though I don't think the 1 4 color sword is that bad, since it'd have to be pretty big to take advantage of it anyway

aye, i'm not sure there either, but then, the sword as proposed now surely is strong enough to play in the "upper league" of blades where it belongs.

the only thing i dont really like is that its not very much like the original saber, and i figure the ringers would prefer that.

Isn't that old one of yours mirrored? I think the old style had the solid column down the right side.

Ahh. That makes more sense now then. It seems like a much better blade now, maybe I'll even equip and start using it instead of my stiletto.

a green/green saber has top row from left to right: yellow, blue, green, red (for the new pattern, same orientation as in screenshot above).

i cannot tell the colors of me cutlass for the heck of it, even by comparing in an iron monger, so we'd need someone else to post the new pattern.

Like this?

And the sword above is therefore purple-yellow. Correct Cedric?
