Yar! This here be a link to the various forum threads regarding different tips and/or tricks for doing ye puzzling thingy. Figured that it might be nice for the new swabbies and cabin people to have a one-stop "look it up".

Note: this here be not meant to discuss puzzle tips themselves, but instead be a repository of which thread to be reading up on. No one minds someone posting in an older thread if, having read it over first, they still have a question about some'n they dinna understand.

Note that some of the early threads may be slightly off, due to changes in implementation as the Alpha and Beta have gone along. The vast majority of stuff, though, is still at least accurate enough to help ye.

http://www.puzzlepirates.com/community/mvnforum/viewthread?thread=2034 (New thread on strategies for creating good combos)

Couldna find anything on the gunnery puzzlie. If/when threads on it be started, or any other future puzzles the Holy Devs wish to bestow upon us, this list will be surely updated. Also, I've been known to punch in bad search terms, so if ye find an existing thread, lemme know.

{EDITS}

Nemo has made this a sticky, so it should be easy to find and refer to.
Added new combo-technique thread for swordfighting.
    Added additional thread on navigating.
    New thread for Sea Battle.
Found a thread containing Drinking Puzzle tips.
Thread containing illustrations for combos in sailing

Ah, thank ye Nemo. Hopefully, it'll help Homullus avoid a few of those headaches he's been having recently. ;)

And if anyone knows of threads that should be added here, let me know so I can update it.

I've got a page of hints, tips, and a lot of links to the various public forum discussion threads on my personal Puzzle Pirates page:

Maroon's Island

Got the above links and lots more, too...

Very nicely laid out. Good navigation thread on there I hadn't seen before, among other things. Thank you.I wish there was a place to find out these link colelctions ahead of time. (ie. I had no idea that the MM or RL even *had* pages, much less that those pages would contain tips on stuff, because the links are buried in the "About" section of the main page.)

Not really a puzzle tip, but this should be included in here somewhere:
http://www.puzzlepirates.com/community/mvnforum/viewthread?thread=2073

It's a how to be an officer guide. I'm making this required reading for officers in my crew.

Aye, 'tis a great guide to be sure, but as you said, really doesn't have much to do with puzzling.

However, this brings up something I've been thinking about. I believe it may have been discussed in passing once or twice, and in fact was implemented (kinda) for a few days with the unused "Answers, Answers" forum. We really need a forum dedicated to "Player Guides, Tips, and Strategies" where all of this stuff can be put. I'd imagine it'd have to be locked for new topics, so only the admins could start new threads or move existing ones there, although posting in existing topics should remain open.

This would (hopefully) cut down on a lot of various questions, because not only would the forum channel basically have a neon sign saying "Get Yer RedHot Playing Tips Here!", just due to its title, but could also easily be linked off the document or support webpage. (ie. "For playing tips and specific hints not mentioned here, go to this forum")

Given the quick death of the "Answers, Answers" forum, though, I'm not sure the admins see much use in it.

Amberyl, just to let ye know, the last carpentry tip on your page is actually wrong. I tried it tonight, and it will NOT allow the puzzle to be played during a melee fight. It may have at one time, but it doesn't anymore. :(

When the manual talks about the "sprinkle attack" does that means not making bold colored blocks by stacking same colored shapes, but instead... break as many single comboed blocks as possible to spam a swarm of small metal bricks at the enemy, which takes 3 turns to turn into normal bricks?

this question should probably be asked in the respective swordfighting guide, but I'll answer it anyway. Yes, the sprinkle is the breaking of lines of blocks, not bold 2x2 or larger blcoks. You can send swords (large blocks) and sprinkes (single blocks) in the same attack, but generally when someone mentions sprinkles its because they want to send large volumes of small attacks. Like fighting with a poinard, for instance.

Aye, I've been meaning to do that. Guess I just got my butt kicked into gear. :)

[EDIT] Actually, I should probably add Jer's video tutorials from The Crow's Nest too. I'll hunt them down later on.
