Ahoy, mates!

Over a year ago, we set out to create a new version of Puzzle Pirates with the idea that the game would eventually run on PC and tablet. The tablet seemed like a natural fit for the game, and we were excited to introduce the game to a whole new audience of potential pirates and their eagerly tapping fingers.

Moving to tablet naturally involved changes to the look and feel of the game, starting with the simple fact that the iPad version has larger buttons, but we also hoped that a shiny new user interface would appeal to new players and help streamline certain features.

We launched the iPad version of Puzzle Pirates last year. Following that, we released a live test version of the PC user interface last fall for players to evaluate.

Based on several factors, we have decided not to formally adopt the new UI for the PC version. We are keeping the classic Puzzle Pirates look and feel that you know and love.

By way of explanation: we set out to enhance the player experience with these changes. However, player response to the new UI has been mixed and real issues have been raised about some of the limitations the new UI imposes on how the game is played. It has not met the goal we set to achieve. We are also concerned that the change would include new hardware requirements (including resolution etc.) that would make the game less accessible for some players.

The bright side of this decision is that we can refocus on core game projects that were put on hold during the UI development. Thank you to everyone who tried out the new UI and provided thoughtful feedback!

For your convenience, a discussion thread for this announcement has been created right here.
