Bring In The Harvest - November 17 (Winners!) Reply to this Post
Reply with Quote

Yarrhoys,

Autumn is here and so it's time to Bring In The Harvest! But as always on our ocean, there's nothing as easy as it seems. A big ship has to be moved. The fruits need to be collected and brought to the hungry mouths. Vikings roam this ocean and threaten the people you need to buy your fruits. but in the end you get your well-earned poe

Detailled Rules:
When?
Saturday November 17th. 10.30 am pirate time
Jobbing starts at 10.00
What?
A Merchant Brig race in teams of 3 from Lagniappe via Rhino to Spring with foraging and obstacles (Vikings)
Some more detail please?
Each team consists of 1 team leader (TL) and 2 team mates. The TL has to join the event crew (and will be made officer) Also he has to have the deed of the merchant brig the team is using!
The race is started with a command in crew-chat. After this command every TL has to buy or sell 1 unit of anything to log his starting time.
On Rhinoceros Ridge the Vessel has to port and each team member, including the TL may forage. Each team has to forage at least 1 unit of fruit. Then the journey continues towards emerald. On the way there you will encounter the Vikings (map will be provided) which you have to beat!
When you arrive at spring you stop your time by selling the fruit. You get a time bonus of 8 seconds for each fruit sold here. The maximum time bonus you get is the fruit foraged or the fruit sold here whichever is lower.
There will be no bonus for gems or gold!

What if don't have the charts to do the race?
That won't be a problem. Just say so in crew chat, then I will chart you.
What if I don't have a merchant brig?
There will be a few merchant brigs available at Lagniappe, but you will have to stock them yourself.
Do I have to sign up for the event
You do not have to, but in order to provide enough of the maps, I need to know how many are participating. I won't have an unlimited supply of those, so please sign up till Thursday by either posting here, sending me a PM or an ingame-tell containing the name of the team leader.
What about PvP?
As I can't do anything against PvP, I have to allow it, but the spirit of the event is the race, not evading PvP, so please don't do that.
If my flag happens to be at war with another flag at the day of the race, you will be jobbed to an event crew, so you are not in danger to get your ship sunk!
Do I really have to join your crew?
Yes, else I can't check your logs and calculate your time. But only one person per team has to join the crew and you may use an alt, if he is subbed.

Prizes:
1st place: a harvest class cutter and a commemorative trinket for each team member
2nd place: a harvest class sloop and a commemorative trinket for each team member
3rd place: a plain sloop and a commemorative trinket for each team member
4th place: a Autumn tapestry furniture and a commemorative trinket for each team member
5th place: a cornucopia furniture and a commemorative trinket for each team member

Ships and furniture will be provided directly after the race (15 to 30 minutes to get the final times) The trinkets will be delivered by OM-Magic, so you don't have to wait for the inscription.

PS: If you intend to blockade Spring, Vernal or Orca on November 17th, please don't drop at noon game time, but 1 or 2 hours later.

tl;dr:

MB race from Lagni to Spring
Forage on Rhino
8 Bonus Seconds for each fruit foraged and sold (lower number counts)
Saturday November 17th 10.30 am (jobbing starts at 10.00)

Some FAQs:

Aren't vikings too hard on 3-man-brig?
No, they are not scaling with ship size, so the vikings will be doable for every team!
What kind of Vikings will it be, rumble or SF?
It will be rumble vikings and every team will be provided the same size and difficulty!
Is there one ship for each team member or has the team to share their prize?
There will be one ship for each team member. So you don't have to share your prizes.
If I use an alt to join the event crew, which name will be inscribed on the trinket?
You may choose the name on your trinket yourself. Just tell me either when signing up or when the winners are announced.

You will be disqualifying people that "just happened to get into a pvp with a [insert large ship here] and won tons of fruit, the weirdest thing" right?

No, I won't disqualify them. They are most likely to encounter a monkey ship and there is...
... I see that there is a line missing, that should be there:
The maximum time bonus you get is the fruit foraged or the fruit sold here whichever is lower.

(edited that into the rules part. Thank you for pointing out)

Also, remind people to have labor available for that day so they can forage fruit.

hmm.. why would it be necessary to sell all the fruits foraged for time bonus?
wouldnt it suffice to just sell any item upon porting at spring (as porting time stamp)

i presume race ships would be checked at the start to make sure there isnt any fruits already in the hold.. and any fruits being bought or transferred in after the check would have shown up in the vessel record.. that said, why couldnt the maximum time bonus be simply the total amount of fruits foraged irregardless of how many were sold so long as something are sold upon porting at spring

its also not possible to cheat by self-pvp ownself with another MB full of fruits cos all won items would be in booty hold rather than vessel hold.. and such activity would also show up in vessel record

Yes, the hold of each ship will be checked before the race.

If you lose fruit in a sea battle, those won't count. It's also more convenient to just have to check the log and not having to check the hold as well.

Why shouldn't you not want to sell the fruit?

The race starts in less than 24 hours. There are still open spots, ie viking maps.

Update with the OM-delivered prizes.
You have to trade your ship to an alt and back to be able to use it:

1st place:
Aset - Feasting Shad on Guava
Phakey - Cornucopian Mackerel on Lagniappe

2nd place (were online so no need to trade ships)
Scurvyolive - Harrowed Piranha ported on Labyrinth Moors
Lolapop - Fall Sailfish on Tigerleaf Mountain

3rd place
Stabatha - Skillful Trout on Kirin
Sherbetlemon - Classy Sprat

The not listed participants got their ship directly from me.
