RL Ocean Chart Reply to this Post

So one of the challenges of the larger ocean maps is that it is so hard to find a specific island. I propose that OOO release a RL ocean map that you can hang on your wall. They could make it look like an antique sea chart with sea monsters and such. I know it would help me navigate the new ocean. Especially since I am entirely unfamiliar with sage-side islands.

I agree that real-world maps would be cool. In the meantime, though, the wiki has searchable maps. Cerulean, Emerald, Meridian

I still have to scroll around to see everything. Same problem as the in-game map. Although the searchable thing is nice..

I know this requires some actual work, but you could take several screenshots of the map, print them out, then put them together on your wall.

I'm not sure how copyright issues would come into play, here, but you can get posters printed up at Zazzle.com. It might even be possible to convince the arrrtists to make up something fancy for sale, complete with "Here be Bellator" around the edges, krakens in the spaces between routes, and so forth.

exactly, if I am going to be pinning a real thing to my real wall. I need it to look fancier than a wiki print out. Hoping to solve a real problem with an aesthetically satisfying solution.

The wiki about as far from aesthetically satisfying as possible

OK, assuming that you (1) have some version of photoshop, (2) have a lot of time you don't mind spending, and (3) either (a) are doing this for yourself and not going to make the final version public, (b) get permission from OOO to do it first, or (c) are willing to check with a lawyer about copyright questions first...

First, get the wiki printout. Make a photoshop file large enough (and at the proper resolution) for the final poster. Expand the wiki printout so that it fits inside the space you desire.

Next, overlay all the islands from the wiki printout in a new layer (or layers) with graphics that you consider worthy of your final product. Label all of them with some nice handwriting-looking font. Don't forget to slant, bend, or otherwise adjust the typography to give it more of a hand-drawn feel.

Then delete the wiki printout layer. You have what you need from it at this point.

Now, add in any flavoring overlay graphics you want-- chose from latitude/longitude lines, routes between islands, archipelago names, graphics for commodities spawned at each island, or anything else you want.

Put any borders you wish to have next. Then add flavor graphics-- the odd kraken, an arrow or two with "To the Empire" on them, an archelon, whatever.

Upload, purchase, and enjoy at that point.

I actually like the print out you can get from in game. I used that to help me track points I needed to mem back in the day.

Ok fair enough I could make something like that. I mostly thought it would be a cool product idea for OOO. I know they have mugs and shirts and stuff. Why not an ocean poster?
