Why don't they make the map a globe, so top joins to top bottom to bottom left to right right to left. This would make any inscribe arches more active making it a lot easier to move around.

Globe ftw.

It would be good to be like a tube at least so you join east/west and west/east from each map. This could help in not leaving the outer ends of a one end point of connection very isolated and far away.

So... am I going to be able to use portraits taken by Mala Evilduck on Viridian Evilduck?

Unless they're changing the names used in your portrait (by adding the suffix), you'll be able to use the portraits on either Evilduck pirate

I know that. My question was whether they were going to change the name on the portrait or not. I asked it in the third or so post in more detail but didn't get an answer. ._.

I might just be paranoid, but is it me, or is linking Viridian and Malachite a bad idea, with the Malas getting the short end of the stick?

I can see Viridian players completely dominating the few Malachite players. I don't really think that's fair, in my opinion.

Would it be any different if Malachite were merged with any other ocean? Besides, an extremely shoppe-poor ocean is being merged with one that has all too many of them so I'm sure that's something for them to look forward to.

It made the most sense as far as population goes anyway.

As I am already retired, I will not ever be playing after the merge.

I know Cobalt and Midnight need player boosts ... but combining them sucks.

I don't want to sift through the posts but what about ship renames? I want mine the way they are and I know that one person on Cobalt had a ship renamed the same as my sloop on Midnight and I'm worried I'd be forced to change. Can someone please point me to the asnwer if it's been disccused thanks.

That depends. My predictions:

1) Doubloon prices will drop already have dropped significantly. This is usually considered a good thing, if dub prices are over 1k.
2) You will see more blockades. This is likely to annoy existing island holders, since they will be losing a more casual atmosphere that they seem to have enjoyed. However, other people seem to think that blockades are the Holy Grail of YPP, so this is more of a mixed result.
3) After blockades are won, there will probably be more shoppes dropped than the Malachite side of the ocean can support, leading to a situation similar to what Alkaid on Hunter has had for years-- shoppes selling regularly at fairly low prices, with nobody making a profit. Probably a bad thing.
4) Malachite will be able to fill mid-sized and large-sized sea monster hunts easier, as well as get parlor games going faster. This is a good thing.

So all in all, I would say mixed, probably to your benefit. The people who will lose out are the established elite, and those who really, really want a more casual game. If you're in the last group, consider moving to Emerald: we'll probably be not quite as casual as Malachite was, but more casual than your new ocean.

People have talked about not being able to swabbie transport across these new inter-ocean routes, personally, I don't see any problems with that.

However, allowing merchant bots to cross these inter-ocean links may really mess up the design of certain oceans, and I would like to see either 1) mechant bots not cross, or 2) make very careful analysis of where the links are placed, or 3) new spawns placed.

As an example, consider the herb indigo on midnight and cobalt. On both oceans, there is only one island which spawns it. The island on midnight is colonized, so there are no merchant bots delivering indigo anywhere on midnight. It is also on the western side of the ocean. On Cobalt, the only island is the very western most island on the ocean an it is also the furthest island away from any colonized island.

So, if midnight was placed to the west of cobalt and merchant bots can cross these links, the indigo spawn on the cobalt would actually be closer to most of midnight than it is to most of the highly populated islands on cobalt. Obviously, a lot of cobalt's spawns would go to midnight. For cobalt players to use the midnight spawn, most players would have to cross all of cobalt and most of midnight to deliver their bid tickets. We are talking about probably a 1.5 hour trip each direction.

On the other hand, if cobalt was placed to the west of midnight, the only spawn of the herb sassafras on cobalt could be near midnight, and the same kind of problem would happen.

OOO appears to have put a lot of though into the number and locations of commodity spawns when designing oceans. The consequences of spawns designed to be "out of the way and on the edge of the ocean" suddenly becoming close to the center of the combined ocean may well make life permanently a pain for merchants on the two oceans.

There won't be any shoppes dropped on the Malachite side of the ocean, there are no blockadable larges (and with one greedy-pig exception all the meds have been nicely developed). Having those shoppe prices drop suddenly makes dusting the stupid things more viable.

Oh, yeah, forgot about that. Then no, I don't anticipate much shop dropping. In fact, I don't anticipate much new happening on Mala, except for shoppes to become busier due to (1) sea monster hunts heading to where the lairs are, and (2) if spawns happen the way I think they do, commodities will become cheaper on the Mala side, since less happens there (there should be an increase in the number of spawns from uncolonized islands, and they'll deliver to the local islands first.)

All in all, I think it's going to be not unlike when a new housing development opens up in a small village. They'll be annoyed at all the extra noise, but will appreciate the opening of the starbucks/wal-mart/casino/new high school football field [delete all that are inaccurate].

I wouldn't mind seeing some limited edition ships - just standard ships painted in the colour of the ocean. e.g. a midnight sloop would be a standard sloop painted in midnight blue, and only available on Midnight for the month before the merge. Hmm, maybe some chromas in the palace shoppe, too?

Hermes, may I make a suggestion? Link to your various answer posts (one so far, it looks like) in the first post of this thread, and recreate your post in the announcements thread. Would probably help folks find answers.

Of course I go on vacation and exciting things happen :)

I'm looking forward to being able to play with the Midnight friends I have, getting a chance to meme a new ocean and hopefully seeing some cool stuff result from the merger.

I don't mind the merge at all, but then again, I never memmed Midnight, and while I have my character name on all oceans, the oldest is on Cobalt, I'm only active on Cobalt and Viridian, and have no stats or stuff to speak of on Midnight or Malachite. I've also never managed to get a labor trade going, so I'm thrilled to be up to 48 hours of labor!

I think this is going to be fun! /e waves to her ROMSy Middy friends - see you soon!

I know! I would've had Cobalt's Holy Cow but it's owner refused to sale and now I don't even know who he was, and the ship appears to be crewless. I wonder, if the pirate got deleted and crewless, that ship is now abandoned forever?

I'd actually call each ocean "area" and the whole thing "ocean". Since well, the whole thing is now the ocean--or server, and each old server becomes an area.

I have a few questions, for stall and shoppe owners, when the change over takes place will we have to turn all of our buy and sell off, incase the prices are very different on the two oceans, or can something like that be automated?

What will happen to our bid tickets? I assume the filled ones that you have yet to pick up will be fine, but what about part filled ones?

Also what will happen to gems in the oceans?

I look forward to the merge, I'll get more ocean to memorize, and more people to play with.

I actually like this idea. It'll be a comemoration and remembrance of where they grew up. I also like the trophy idea previously mentioned with their home ocean of where they rose.

Hermes- consider this on your to do list.

As much as I love this idea, please no.

It's supposed to be two oceans coming together, not the superbowl where two teams are battling against each other. New pirates who spawn in the new oceans won't say "I like Sage best", or "I like Hunter best". They'll say "I like Admiral and Aimuari".

@Shawe, this game has needed a merge for years. I have no clue why you are so upset. In fact I think we should all be happy!

edit: I will definitely be playing more Puzzle Pirates in 2012 because the number one thing that has bothered me is population size.

DoubleLIKE matey!!!
As my joining date approves i used to play years back on midnight ocean. It was so wonderful (the amount of people online on average) that i even paid to play the game (no offence to those who pay now its just me). I left for 4 years when came back and saw the dreadful decrease of population decided to stop playing because i thought its not worth paying anymore and without a sub its kinda rough for a ex-subber to play! But then i saw that dub oceans still have some what of the past and still have people playing them so i moved over to hunter! I was planning to quit in 2012 because again it wasn't what i expected it to be and most of time due to my timezone i wouldn't get big population online. NOW im not gonno quit because i think this merge although would effect the game speed and cause alot more problems for those with slower connections, would get the old glory of the game back! OOO Thanx for bringing life once again to the oceans!

Cheers....
