This thread will contain the contest instructions, the entries and the results for the fifth week of Doodles. Each new contest will be linked from the second post of the general Sticky thread. This week 5 thread will be used Monday 27th through Friday 31st December 2010.

This entry thread will be mercilessly bilged of anything that isn't an entry.

27 December - Everybody Hurts!

Contest opens now! Contest will finish at midnight in about 34 hours' time.

It's time for that wonderful thing, the singing doodle! Today, I'd like you to sing for me; or at least, make some kind of musical approximation to singing. This year, we're going to have a go at performing one of the Doodle Theme Tunes written for this contest here. If you entered that contest, you have to provide a recording of someone else's entry!

* Choose a song from among the entriesentries that you want to sing.
* You can sing unaccompanied, or you can provide your own accompaniment, or you can source your own (public domain) backing track, or you can record using a karaoke site.
* Remember to sing the doodle theme parody words, not the original. You can make minor changes to the parody lyrics provided (for example, if the backing track you've sourced doesn't quite fit the format of the original parody)
* In another change from previous years, I'm actively encouraging you to get your family / friends / housemates involved joining in with the singing or backing noises accompaniment.
* Upload your file to a web space or file hosting service, and copy the link for the file.
* Make sure (get a mate to check) that your file can be accessed and played without signing in, registering, membership or delayed download!
* I'm looking for good singing, yes, but also for a fun and enthusiastic performance appropriately representing the most fabulous people in the world - our Doodlers.

As a reminder, please read the general rules before posting. Include your pirate name and ocean at the top of your post, then the name of the pirate who wrote the parody and a link to their entry post, then a link to your recording .

Go Doodle!

Faeree of Sage

Doodle song by Framling: Fever or Doodles !
In the style of Animal and Rita Moreno (I just HAD to.. one of my favorite skits)

Link

Tonight festivities were still abound and so was the RUM so I was able to wrangle in my brother (Animal step-in) and Boyfriend (accompanimentuer) to assist me in my "singing". I apologize (esp. to Framling who can really sing!) for any sore ears or liquid coming out of the nose from an unexpected snort of laughter. Oh yeah, and for some reason its really, really loud! At least my sore throat hung in there as I'm still fighting my cold!

Doodle song:Being for Benefit of Sun Delight (Greylady of Malachite)
Original: Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite (The Beatles)
Edit: Forgot Pirate name
Ivytheblade of Viridian

Sun's Delight

I found two problems with today's Doodle :P

A) I can not sing and
B) I think I have a cold. Today my entire family was over for after christmas christmas, and half of them were sick, and I think I've caught it D:. By the end of the song my throat was very sore and I started singing from the belly >_<
Christmas time should be renamed Cold...mas time? Or something.

Anyway! Sorry for the ear-bleed :) But I had a lot of fun entering! Greylady's Parody was brilliant, I could not resist.

My Name: Janepeg
My Ocean: Sage

Lyrics By: SoulScape of Hunter
Original Entry: Soulscape's Entry
Adapted From: Eye of th Tiger by Surviver

My Entry:Will of Appolo [sic] / Eye of the Tiger

Apologies that the words are somewhat out of sync. Karaokeplay does not mix the background music with your voice but instead asks you to keep your speakers on. I did this but my mike only picks up what is right in front of it. I did try rerecording with the speaker next also pointing towards the mike but got major bandwidth problems causing the recording to stop.

Cattrin on Midnight

Lyrics by: Imp on Malachite
Original Entry: Here
Adapted From: Mad World by Gary Jules

Entry: Mad God

Ok...So, I just learned I sing incredibly soft. I tried to overlay the music on top of it, and it completely drowned out my voice. :x (I picked this song because it stays in the easiest to sing range for me, and because you don't have to sing too loudly)

In the middle I had to cover the microphone for my dad decided to wake up and I didn't want him hearing me singing , sorry for the little odd part there.

I tried to upload a recording I did earlier with the Sound Recording tool, but I can't upload it to youtube, it won't accept it, and I can't edit the file type. :(

Turn your speakers way up, I think. (Actually, you might not want to, my voice isn't that good, at all) I had to do some majour speaker tweaking to hear.

bad news: Dexla. Midnight.
good news: Soon to change her name and move to an undisclosed, warm, location.
bad news: I went and ruined Sinistergoat's parody of "My Favourite Things" . I'm sorry.
good news: I'm done
bad news: the link
good news: If that link and that site actually works, then it's good news.
bad news: If anyone actually listens to it.

I just keep saying to myself... I'm done.

Greylady of Malachite

I also chose Sinistergoat's selection - only 1 of 2 that I knew and couldn't find karaoke for the other one (Daynarious).

I made some very minor changes to the lyrics to accomodate the Celebrity Impersonator of Apollo singing with me. :D

I beg forgiveness in advance from both Apollo (for making you sound like some kind of witchy-Yentl) and Sin (for modifying your terrific lyrics) to fit the music and my interpretation.

Ok, take a deep breath and click!

Btw, here are the slightly modified lyrics - "Apollo's" part is in red:

Paint without brushes and only use splatters
Give it a go it’s the joining that matters

Doodlers will do just whatever Sun asks
These are a few of his doodling tasks

Write us me a poem about some dread pirates
Find a solution to problems with climates
Now just try singing while wearing your masks

These are a few of his doodling tasks

Captions on pictures or drafting a story
Playing with avatars - some end up gory
Create a potion to go in this flask

These are a few of his doodling tasks

When the nights close, when the cold comes,
When the seas are rough,
I simply remember these doodling tasks
And make myself lots of stuff.

Make him me a sketch of a fantastic creature
Next write a play in which all the beasts feature

Doodlers will do just whatever Sun asks
These are a few of his doodling tasks

Bake him me a cake in the shape of a puzzle
(I like this best as the cakes I can guzzle!)
Now make a model with only wine casks

These are a few of his doodling tasks

Just when you think you can guess what is coming
Sun I will surprise us you with something like plumbing
Doodlers will try just whatever he asks
These are a few of his doodling tasks

When the nights close, when the cold comes,
When the seas are rough,
I simply remember these doodling tasks
And make myself lots of stuff.

When the nights close, when the cold comes,
When the seas are rough,
I simply plan more of these doodling tasks
To create me lots of stuff.

I would like to thank Sinistergoat for providing a parody for which I knew the tune for and could do it accupela.

I would also like to appologize to Sin for having butchered her parody with my complete lack of musical talent. Sorry Sin.

Kattles of Cobalt

heres the song!

Daily Doodle - Parody of New York New York
Pirate: Janepeg
Ocean: Sage

Start Spreading the news, It's starting today
I want to be a part of it - daily Doodle
These creating hands, are longing to make,
A sketch, a tale, a limerick - daily Doodle

I want to wake up with a trinket from Apollo
And find I'm king of the hill - top of the heap

These doodleless blues, are melting away
I'll make a brand new start of it to win doodles
If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere
It's up to you Doodle, Doodle

Doodle, Doodle
I want to wake up with a trinket from Apollo
And find I'm a number one, ultimate list
king of the hill, top of the pops

These doodleless blues, are melting away
I'm gonna make a brand new start of it and win a doodle
And if I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere
It's up to you Daily Doodle

Daynarius - Midnight

I've got a couple of small nodules on my vocal chords, which means singing is verboten for about another month to give my chords time to heal. So, I played ukulele, and roped my best-big-sister-in-the-world (Dianarius) into singing. Since I already knew how to play it on uke (and it was the only one I already knew how to play on uke), we went ahead and redid my parody from the Karaoke Kapers competition.

Our performance

EDIT to add: In case you don't feel like following the link to the original, this is "Doodleful World", a parody of Isreal Kamakawiwo'ole's Over the Rainbow/Wonderful World medley.

27 December - Everybody Hurts
Contest now closed! Thanks to everyone who participated!

A truly magnificent set of theme tunes there - and I particularly enjoyed those entries that dissolved into helpless giggles.

Today's winners are Faeree's brother Formerly of Midnight and Rachida of Malachite who each received a 'microphone' flower trinket!

Runner-up was Hairytickle. Honorable mentions to Faeree's brother, Janepeg, Sallymae (and sister!), Kimmay (splendid enthusiasm!), Greylady (the celebrity impersonator sounds uncannily like me), Adrielle, Framling, and Daynarius (who would have won if it wasn't her own parody being sung). Special honorable mention for best music video goes to TheRunt!

Every entrant will receive a trinket.

28 December - Shiny Happy People!

Contest opens now! Contest will finish at midnight in about 24 hours' time.

It's time to rescue all that shiny wrapping paper you saved the other day! I'd like you to create a piratey collage picture out of anything shiny and reflective you have around the house, including shiny paper, aluminium foil, metallic ribbon, glass (I guess!) and so on. You can probably get away with using sequins or shreds of tinsel, but try to make your final picture a predominantly flat creation rather than one relying on 3D relief!

Once you’ve created your picture, photograph it and upload the file to your computer, to save as a .jpg or .png. Please ensure that your image is no larger than 600 x 600 pixels (although you can provide a link to a larger one if you wish to have a version where more detail is visible). You'll then need to upload it to a hosting site - either web space of your own, or one of the many file hosting services available, such as tinypic, flickr.com, photobucket.com, imageshack.com. Once you have a url (link) for your image, you can then post it into the thread using image tags, as shown here. Use the "Preview" button before posting your entry, to make sure the image is showing correctly. Take a second photograph of your creation including a name card with your pirate name, ocean and 2010 written on it! Include this image as a link in your post. If you have a larger version of your image, or a progress picture, don’t post it in image tags, but you can post the url so that I can link to it to see more. Remember to press "Reply to this post" instead of "Post new thread"!

As a reminder, please read the general rules before posting.
Include your pirate name and ocean at the top of your post, then shiny happy picture in image tags, then a link to your picture with name card.

Go Doodle!

Cattrin on Midnight

Edit: Bwahaha, I forgot to try to not show my pajamas in the pictures, oh well.

Larger Here

Ok...this was weird. xD It started out ok, then just went crazy. Initially, it was a firing cannon. I changed that into a confetti cannon after seeing the colours I had left.

Made of 100% not wrapping paper 'cause I didn't want to get it from the garage at 5 AM when it's 8*f out! :D (It's made of nearly entirely chocolate wrappers)

The cannon itself is peppermint wrappers (same as the striped background), but flipped. The rim of the cannon behind the red squiggles is a very, very noisy chip bag, the centre is inverted chocolate coins. The gold explosion is also chocolate coins, the blue stripes are snowmen hats, the spots resees bells. The "confetti" is lint chocolate figure wrapping.
