With a separate tab, they could re-use the same (or similar) colors in each tab. Also, a single character (like "*" or a tiny speech bubble) appears to indicate there's new text in the tab you're not reading, rather than no signal or flashing or automatically switching you over.

Typing the command for it seems faster than having to go to the chat pull down and select a new chat mode each time, but that's just me.

I suppose it wouldn't hurt anyone by adding this, so why not, heh.

Ugh. Does anyone use the pull-down things?

I want tabs like on the vessel, which the chat and jobbers on separate ones.

OH. Carry on then. "Chat tab option" is kinda confusing.

I do, sometimes. One advantage is that it becomes the default channel, so I don't have to prefix every single line with the same command.

That said, I'd like it if typing just "/<channel>" without following text did the same thing. Or some other keyboard method for switching default channels.

I do, when I'm talking about a sensitive subject in a /tell. I'm the master at booching chat, and have said some things that were made for one pair of ears (or eyes, rather) only.

Once you have used a command, the up arrow is a great tool. Especially for tells.

The pull-down channel menu can inadvertently gain the input focus and the current channel can be set by the first letter typed. This has led to me ending up using /say instead of /vessel.

Personally I hate the pulldown, and I'd like to see it eliminated or totaly revamped. How about a trinity of the three most common chat modes, requiring one click to activate. The smaller arrow keys switch the three choices to the less common modes such as /tell and /ponder. Let me try to explain in ASCII what I mean:

 XXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXX
XX XX XX XX
X SPEAK X X VESSEL X
XX XX XX XX
XXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXX

XXXXXXXXXXX
XX XX
X CREW X
[<==] XX XX [==>]
XXXXXXXXXXX

The active icon would be glowing to indicate use. The keyboard will not be able to affect input.

Well, I'm gonna stop here because I am noticing problems. But I'll still post it in case someone wants to take the idea and run with it. Remember, it's gotta be intuitive for greenies as well as powerful and versatile for the king and queen tarts among us.

If there's one thing I'd like to request it's the ability to /switch channels from the chat input line. So, instead of /fo Hi [cr] /fo How are you? [cr], you could type: /switch fo [cr] Hi [cr] How are you? [cr]

I would also like some kind of an "Alt" option for channels.

Alt-Enter posts to /o
Alt-Shift-Enter posts to /fo

I would also like the option of disabling the up arrow for scrolling through old commands, so long as the up arrow is used for something in the game.

I suspect a misplaced up arrow is the source of much drama on Y!PP.

And how about a /jobbing to chat in the crew channel of the crew you are jobbing for instead of your normal crew? Jobbing is in the list but not available from the text box.
