The good route change around, in general people get to hear about a good route to more merchants start bidding for tickets (putting the buy price up) and increasing the supply at the target island (putting the sell price down) until the route isn't worth doing and another route needs to be found.

For this reason merchants tend to keep their routes secret so they can milk them as long as possible.

I suggest you look at the bidding prices of a number of commodities use the profiteer to find which islands are buying in quantity at a decent price and start bidding on the commods you can get the best profit on. (taking distance into account).

Bear in mind sometimes people will out bid you and your tickets will remain unfilled you then have a choice to wait until the bid price comes back down again and your tickets are eventually filled (this sometimes takes months) or cash out and lose the tax.

Alright makes sense. Another question, how fast do tickets fill for minerals and herbs etc? Anything like cane and wood or way slower?

A lot slower at least in terms of quantities, demand for cane and wood is way higher than for any for any herb or mineral, so while sugar cane might spawn on 16 islands and a typical mineral 2 as the ocean requirement for cane are much greater than 8 times the requirements for the mineral the number of cane spawned per hour on each island will be greater than the number of mineral.

In value terms for some commodities it is a little closer. Cowslip might be around the same price as sugar but will spawn a lot less. Masuyite might be 300 times the price and might even produce as much in value as some cane islands.

There are a lot of other parameters however there will be a big difference between different commods between oceans. Viridian has 16 islands producing can and only one producing chalcocite, Hunter has only 9 producing cane (so each island will produce more cane per hour than on viridian) but 2 producing Chalcocite.
