I've gotten to the point where I'm bored of sitting around competing with other foragers, and want to do some more profitable trade running. I've got a couple merch. ships, the patience to run long distances for supplies and a bit of money saved up. It doesn't really matter what the distance is for what commods, so it doesn't bother me. I'm on Sage by the way, and I would prefer the help of anyone that runs commods often. Any help would be appreciated :) ---------------------------------------- Solowing Captain of Smokin' Aces ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Solowing at Jul 20, 2010 2:09:28 PM] |

Use a tool like PCTB to pick out profitable routes. I go for the high value minerals that have good margins on the Viridian layout; I'm not sure what the profitable commodities on Sage are, but look for things which spawn outside the 'home arch' that you can ship in. These light minerals and herbs can be shipped on a sloop, which you can solo from dnav (to reduce spawns) or if you don't like that from sails/rigs. You can also ship wood, hemp or cane in on merchant brigs or galleons. You'll want to hire some crew (around 2 extra people for a MB, around 15 for a MG I think but I've never used one) and will probably have to pay them; the rate seems to be about 50 PoE/league on Viridian lately. I doubt that anyone who currently trades on Sage will tell you specific routes because that would mean you are competing directly with them and taking away their profits. ---------------------------------------- Bobjanova on Viridian and Malachite Shops and stalls with fair and profitable wages for all: Jubilee, Napi, Fintan, Lima, Chelydra, Drogeo I SELL LIMITED EDITION SHIPS (Jubilee Is., Viridian) |

a MB can be moved with one other person without much problem (if they can make constant excel/inc) just put bots with 1 on carp 1 on bilge with another bot on carp till bilge goes up a little bit and have it hop over(for longer runs) and the rest on sails including the one person. You can switch yourself and the other person and have you sailing and them duty naving but i prefer to duty nav since i have a bigger screen to see then sailing. a MG is very easy to move with 6skilled people or 7-9 newer people. I just get everyone to take a station they like, i prefer having one respected+ bilger and carp with one/two bots switching as need be with the rest of the people/bots on sails and yourself duty naving or a jobber duty naving. Rum/grog to use im sure someone else can answer Pay per league can be anywhere from 25 for a MB and 35-100 for a MG, really depends on how you want profit and if you want to load fast or slow. ---------------------------------------- Lesgreg from Midnight. I am of the opinion that cutters are pretty much the best all-purpose trading vessel now, since another swabbie was added to them and they got more cargo space. Very easy to solo even if you have mediocre sail/nav skills - you even have a decent chance solo engaging brigands in battle if you feel like it (thanks to 8 cannons and gun loading swabbies) and don't have a particularly valuable cargo. You can haul light goods like minerals and herbs quite safely and quickly, and yet you can also haul enough hemp and wood, etc. to be a significant boost, as well. They especially shine when it comes to medium weight goods like cannonballs or iron, or combinations of herbs + basic commods in one vessel. It's the only ship I can really confidently AND profitably use while switching back and forth from wood to cloth, etc. as I move from island to island. If you can find a couple of reliable routes that always have a lot of demand for bulky goods with a high margin, however, then yeah - stick with galleons and such and specialize. It doesn't sound like you WANT to specialize, though. ----------------------------------------
