I'm a narrow / able rumbler. I used to verse people in rumble when if first started playing, but lost most my matches. After reading heaps of guides and practicing, i'm not too bad of a rumbler anymore, so I thought I'd get my rank up a bit, to help me get into CI voyages and just for the pride of it. I have won 11 times in a row now, all rated, and have not changed rank. I versed 8 ables, 2 proficients and a master. Why is my rank not changing??? Especially since i went on an alt, and his first rumble match he lost, and went UP to proficient! Can anyone give me any help to get my rumble up? |

You're doing fine. But when you had constantly lost, Your ranking had dropped to a very, very low able. You were on the lower end of the ables. So if you've done that many, it could be a few more, or many more before your rank goes up. By now you could of be a sort-of-low able. ---------------------------------------- Avatar by the incredible Remnant Captain of Slave Dolls, Member of -Tenacity-, Hunter Ocean. |

Your other problem is the misuse of the word "versus" as a verb. That and you keep defeating people just barely higher-ranked than you. |

In addition to what other people already said, as someone who runs CI trips somewhat frequently, someone's rumble stat is very rarely the deciding factor in whether to job them or not. Overall, the battles against zombies and EOs (and Vargas) are easier than the battles against cultists (and Stay-Puft Men) If you can get yourself up to Respected or Distinguished, that's usually good enough for me, and it sounds as if you'll get to that point quickly enough. I'd make sure your other stats are good enough. Are you at least Master at SF, and do you have at least one Renowned (preferably GM) in a duty puzzle? One other thing you can do to improve your resume is to get the trophies for defeating zombie and skellie frays. If I see someone without at least the first level trophy, I wonder if they're going to be useless in a tough fight. ---------------------------------------- Mat on the Viridian Ocean Thank you to everyone who loves Blacksmithing! |

OK, well now i've won 29 matches, lost three, vs a reasonably even amount of ables & proficients yet no rank (still able/able), or even experience change (still narrow). They were all against different pirates and rated. Maybe this is some kind of glitch? I mean is it THAT hard to go simply up to proficient? |

I don't even screen for rumble in CI, so you shouldn't need to worry about that aspect of it. Try beating higher ranked players. ---------------------------------------- Bobjanova on Viridian and Malachite Shops and stalls with fair and profitable wages for all: Jubilee, Napi, Fintan, Lima, Chelydra, Drogeo I SELL LIMITED EDITION SHIPS (Jubilee Is., Viridian) |

There are a few thing you can do to increase your rank: - Beat people with a higher rank than you. Beating a respected will be more worth than beating an able - I found that to get my rank up I had to try a diffrent method of rumbling, it is only bad now because I stopped rumbling and now I suck - In some oceons (most likley impossinle that it happens trying to get proficent) because it is so big the barrier you have to get past to get to a higher rank is bigger, and because there are set amount of ranks with some ranks you have to outdo another person with the other rank - Practice and keep playing ---------------------------------------- Captain of pirates realms Lady of Inferno Freaks on Hunter ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Freaks87 at Jul 27, 2010 10:36:46 AM] |

Beating an Able won't change your rank much. At higher ranks, beating an Able will actually lower your rank. So look for people who are ranked higher than you, and beat them. When jobbing strangers for Cursed Isles, I look for rumble, swordfighting, and foraging ability, plus ability in at least one duty puzzle. In addition, I want a sense that that person will be reliable, and will stay till the end of the voyage. If someone sends me a polite well-written tell that they know their stats aren't very good but they will work hard and stay till the end, sometimes I'll take them even though they don't meet the cut-off I was looking for. Make sure it's typed out properly and not whiny, though! ---------------------------------------- Sweetiepiepi, nav of Tyr's Own and Warrior Kitten Pomfret: Because I am a Fruitcake.
