You know yer an Olde Salt... Reply to this Post

So, this is a mix of politricks, erm... politics and fun.

The only political side of this, is I know for a fact that someone will eventually say something (politically correct or incorrect) about an idea someone puts down and then the whole thing goes off-topic and and all that piratey goodness! Whoo hoo.

Without any farther hesitation.

You know yer an olde salt....

What are you if you remember before anyone knew what these dub things were for and you remember when banks were used for storing poe and not just a pretty commod sink before you get to build shoppes?

Then you're close to being as old as me...

I remember when banks were used to store poe and the only way you could move your money around was when you had to take a ship. :D

Personally... I liked that. It made pillaging more... pilliagable...

Ye know ye're an old salt when
Ye sailed around in yer large sloop,
Fought by the Monstarrs chest with a small group,
And sailed round an island on the trainin' loop.

Ye know ye're an old salt when
Yer finest clothes were black and didn't dust,
Yer 30k skull wouldn't rust,
The short sword was the best blade ye could thrust.

Ye know ye're an old salt when
Ye landed on the same square to board,
Ye hit shore and buried yer hoard,
And when skill was the key to reward!

when you used to wonder what they'd eventually do with doubloons.

when you used to play fake bilge in the shoppes.

if you ever had an "Adventurer" rating on your page.

if you remember when scimitars were the high end sprinklers.

if you remember that brief period where short swords were awesome.

if you remember that time Spades ruined pillaging.

when you once had to solo 63k to Wrasse to buy a new skulldagger. Or was it 65k? Whatever. Swords used to be expensive.

Paul already said/sung it for me. I'll add this, though.

When I washed ashore on Guava Beach, there weren't any docks there. I wanted to help my new crew out with supplies, so I went to the weavery (there was only one, and no bazaar of course) and bought some brown cloth, which was used for sails. Only I wasn't an officer yet, so I couldn't deliver it.

So just because I joined before there were greenies doesn't mean I never acted like one. ;p

Oh, one more thing - you couldn't repaint ships, and so every order was an anxious roll of the dice for not just a good name but also a color combination you liked.

And I KNOW there's more, because I KNOW I replied to one before that thread was made.

But I can't find it. Not even looking through my own posts.

I loathe MVN forum. I miss the old ones that gave a return on a thread, not individual posts....

When all the chat circles were set in place and walking around outside meant clicking the little arrows to go from scene to scene because it wasn't all just one big scene.

(I'm not actually that old, but I do remember when the screenshots on the puzzle pirates website were all of the game when it was that old.)

When you know what it means for the smithsonian to purchase your old computer for $200. (Ok, wrong game :-)

When you go through your ten trial logins in a single weekend with a bad internet connection.

When you remember people up in arms over island over development, and actually pitch in gobs of poe to correct an overdeveloped island.

When you recall double wages as a prize at one island as a way to jumpstart a local economy. Heck, just remembering the concept of a local economy.

When you recall forum discussions of player-run banks, with player bankers having to ship money around instead of it being "automatic".

When you've already got 6 years of trophies.

EDIT: When you remember the whole thing about both Turtle *AND* Papaya :-).
