Letting officers save speeches ...? Reply to this Post
Reply with Quote

This is just an idea that popped into my head while reading http://www.puzzlepirates.com/community/mvnforum/viewthread?thread=15401

What if officers, or any pirate, could save a little speech so that they only have to type it once --- then can "recite" it with a shortcut button?

Captains could have a "Welcome jobbers, we're blah blah blah for blah blah blah, you'll get your money blah blah blah..." speech saved, just to save time and frustration all around. Event organizers, OMs, shopkeepers and greeters probably also repeat things a lot. Some crews have officer training that's standardized. And in the case of big events like weddings, speeches could be prepared in advance, then recited at the appropriate time without having to copy and paste line by line.

I imagine that this could be a little in-game clipboard; to be an advantage over the OS clipboard it would be nice if it were persistant in-game between logoffs, and perhaps let you save several speeches.

It might make it easier to explain basic things without getting frustrated, and thus create a nurturing environment for greenies even on the ships of short-tempered captains. :)

Other options include:
1 copying and paisting using a os clipboard
2 not being repeditive
3 trying to take over the world and once you do, forcing the devs to do it

I don't know, this seems rather pointless to me as i don't think id normaly say the exact thing to multiple people, when that happens ye kindof lose yer... uh... personal touch.

However if your audience consists of greenies fresh from the pollywog who probably have no idea of certain concepts ie, paying and divvy; teaming during a battle; finding stations and not lazing/playing with the swabbies; general ship etiquette etc. Repeating yerself over and over quickly becomes a chore.

Sure it may feel a little impersonal but considering that this would only apply to newcomers who you would most likely never see again, I would feel this would be a god-send for any CO, especially those who regularly host big pillages.

Plus it allows someone to take full care and attention to the advice given- not disjointed comments peppered with typos as you're busy bnavving/fighting/working on your MP^20.

I like the thing about preparing big speeches for special events as well- it seems pretty novel and again you can fully invest your time in it beforehand, rather than struggle to say your piece then and there with emotes and chat flying about the place.

Ever hosted a major event? You will explain the rules to every third person who walks in the door. You will explain them exactly the same way every time, because if you don't, people will start to question discrepancies that they make up in their heads. I use notepad files copy/paste liberally in these scenarios, and I'm not sure there's really an in-game mechanic that would work that much better, but I can certainly see why many people would wish for one.

Aye, the standard way is just that- copying and pasting from a separate document outside of the game.. Even thought it is awkward people have gotten used to it as there is simply no alternative..

How about all officers get an added option under their vessel menu to write text up to the maximum charcter length of a current text box. These speeches can then be saved. Up to, say, three can be saved at a time.

Call it "orders":

Click on a title to select an order:
1. "Sb teaming"
2. "Me rules :)"

You can write (1) more order.

|You can leave me ship whenever ye like, as long as it isn't in
|battle of course ^_^.. The poe earned from yer partcipation in
|each fight will get deposited at the last isl I

|

The saved orders can simply be clicked in the menu, and the message relayed into your chat box instantly. A shortcut could be /order Sb teaming.. To save harrassment, these option for relaying orders will only exist for when you are on a vessel and not jobbing with another crew.

Oh yes. Please, please, please, yes!

Please make them accessable while on land, as well, for running land-bound events.

Function keys seem to be popular choices for non-puzzle controls because they don't get in the way. I think that we'll probably see another drop down item in the key selection options tab for text macros.

Sounds cool, but only if greenies can't use the feature:

Better than not asking and just issuing the invite command.

I think something along these lines would be very very handy!

I have a text file that I c&p from regarding teaming during battle. Its short and to the point but really helps out new players quickly.

Being able to save 2 or 3 reasonably sized messages would be wonderful.

Nope, it wasn't fixed.

What Pip tried to do was something totally unprecedent. He, in some strange way, used Midnight as a test server, without him even knowing. [Crap, it sucks I was not online when he did that :'(... pfft, anyways]

Like a bad penny.

Nope, it wasn't fixed.

Yellow needs to be fixed to prevent the spread of such behavior.
