Homullus In glory victorious, this mad mutineer Was later notorious but still of good cheer! Alpha tester muse: Homullus Event host: Feylind Date: event will be posted here at 12pm on Oct. 30 Deadline: entry period will close at 12pm on Nov 2 Description: The aim of this event is to solve a Hom-inspired crossword puzzle! VATC Commander: Hey, Hominy, you missed the meeting! Homullus: It's Homullus, and what meeting? VATC Commander: The one where we assigned roles for the Conspiracy. Didn't you get the memo, Homeopathy? Homullus: It's Homullus, and what memo? VATC Commander: The one about the meeting. Really, Homuncullus, you need to read your mail. So, are you all ready for your part? Homullus: It's Homullus, and what part? VATC Commander: Well, you know the rule. The ones who don't attend the meeting always get assigned the worst tasks. I'm sure you'll do admirably, though, Homonym. Homullus: It's Homullus, and what assignment? VATC Commander: Hominid, you've really got to read your mail. Your assignment is simple: Make a crossword puzzle that will hurt pirate's brains. We want them distracted and confused so that they won't interfere with the rest of our plans. I know you'd rather be in on the main attack, but oh, well, you weren't at the meeting. Homullus (under his breath): If you call me Homicide, I will take it as permission. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to Homophone.. er.. Homullus's Head-Hurting Crossword Puzzle To Enter: -- Send answers via PM to Feylind. -- Be sure to include your pirate name and ocean. -- A list of clue #'s and answers is fine; filling in the grid is unnecessary. -- One entry per player. To Win: All entrants who solved the entire puzzle will be entered in a drawing for the 8 prizes. If fewer than 8 entrants solved the entire puzzle, then the remaining prizes will be awarded randomly to those with all but one correct answer, etc, until all prizes are awarded. Prizes: * Ancient calendar rare furniture * Light green spice furniture * Light blue orchid trinket (2 available) * Thinking caps (viking helmets, male or female - 4 available) ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by VATC at Oct 24, 2009 12:57:24 PM] |

Without giving away too much, I believe there are numerous clues to the crossword puzzle in her OP. Also, I believe(correct me if I'm wrong) she will be posting a crossword puzzle for us in the near future for us to solve. You can find more information about Homullus on the yppedia. If you still don't get him, look up Notorious Fandango. That should answer a lot of questions about Homullus. ---------------------------------------- The name is Synful. ------------------------ Avatar by myself |

That would be correct. The crossword will be posted on Friday, as stated in the initial post by VATC. As for what I mean by "Hom-inspired" you will just have to wait til then to find out (though I admit that Synful is right; it's hinted at in the intial post). ---------------------------------------- Feylind Midnight Ocean Event Addict |

For those who want a REAL challenge, you can try filling out the crossword grid sans clues :-P I went ahead and posted it up top. Clues will be posted Friday at noon, as scheduled. ---------------------------------------- Feylind Midnight Ocean Event Addict |

I imagine its a crossword with Homonyms. I remember that the paper at my grandparents used to have a crossword where every clue had multiple right answers that were very similar in spelling. The goal was then to find a set of them that worked. That said waiting to see Friday seems easier. ---------------------------------------- Shogia SO of Reality on Viridian Shogia on Midnight, Opal, and Hunter Shardsofice on Sage and Cobalt |

Aye, this is fun. :) Edit: I'm so close to being done (5 more words) but I need to go for the evening. :P Frustrating! This is really cool though. Edit: 2 (or possibly three) left... Entries are coming in; I am glad people are enjoying having their brains hurt! One common comment coming in along with the entries is that there were a few clues that took a lot longer than ther rest, and I am curious... I saw a couple references to 33 Down. Which others have been causing the worst migranes? (Be warned, I am likely to use this information to calibrate for a harder puzzle next time around :-P) ---------------------------------------- Feylind Midnight Ocean Event Addict |

I'm confident in all of my answers except 33 down -- it was the only one that I couldn't fully decipher into meaningful English to get the clue, and therefore get the answer. It's comforting to know I'm not the only one! From my perspective, there were a few phrases it could be interpreted as and even solving the other words around it with the second and fourth letters given didn't provide any help at all! The other ones that took a while for me were 44 across (which was solved with a rather dramatic, "ohhhhh!"), 12 down which was wonderfully creative, and 37 down which was... ingenious. 30 down was tough too. For the ones that I was stuck on, I attempted to say them out loud in various accents to see if they were better understood from that perspective. It didn't make solving the puzzle any easier, but it made it a lot more fun! <.< ---------------------------------------- Pipeline of Viridian ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by P1P3L1N3 at Oct 31, 2009 4:50:06 PM] |

Hmm... Well I am stuck on 21 and 40 across although I have deciphered the clues, and I'm lost on 4 down although it's probably really obvious. :P ---------------------------------------- Castawayjoe of the Midnight Ocean. Assuming I got the answer right, 33 down wasn't a problem for me (it made me lol). Once I got started, I was able to come up with translations for all of the clues fairly quickly. The ones I had trouble with were clues where I could come up with more than one phrase, 17 and 18 down were a little tricky for me and for 34 across I had the clue wrong twice before I finally got to the right answer, which was based on filling in all the other words that intersect. In general, I think shorter words are more difficult, because there are more options that sound similar when said aloud and slurred- I didn't think of accents, but next time I'll give it a try.:) ---------------------------------------- Sallymae of Viridian |

33 was the hardest. 40 Across was the last one I got, even though I read the clue for that one before 3/4 of the rest of them. (4 down was another clue like that read it but didn't get it for the longest time). ---------------------------------------- Ryanne, Midnight. 33 was definitely the hardest. 4 was second hardest. A couple of them were difficult only because I sounded them out wrong at first, but when I returned to them after the other clues, I reread them and got them. I really love crosswords. Thanks for hosting this :D ---------------------------------------- Zaybex of Sage Senior Officer of the close-knit crew The Usual Suspects, independents will buy certain Indigo clothing with accompanying colors Lime, Lt Green, Magenta, Orange, Red, Violet, White, Yellow, and maybe Blue. |
