Any chance of OM dolls and/or eggs being awarded for OM favorites as in years past? If we photograph our bloody fingers do we get extra points? Are you going to get Nut first with the goop? I think if there was any OM eggs or dolls he would of mentioned it. But as you spoke of it , it would be a great idea. But for the bloody fingers i'm afraid it wouldn't be such a pretty sight to give extra points for :P Hmm for the last question i think he would really want to answer that! hehehe =] |

Things that have come up previous years: One pumpkin per carving, or can another gourd be added/incorporate? Any embellishments, things stuck on, hats etc? And rearrangement of bits of your pumpkin? Cut a bit out somewhere add it on (cocktail stick or innards etc) elsewhere. ty for running this. ---------------------------------------- Ryanne, Midnight. Use only one pumpkin per entry, please.
This is a carving contest. Hats, clothing, Mr. Potatohead ears, and other non-pumpkin bits are not allowed. I won't disqualify people who have some marker ink showing on their pumpkin (it's often needed for pattern transfer), but that won't help your score as it shouldn't show up in the lit picture anyway.
You can rearrange bits of your pumpkin, but keep in mind that entries that look like a jack-o-lantern will score much better than those that look like piles of pumpkin cubes.
You may produce more than one entry, but please put all of your entries in a single post in the entry thread. ---------------------------------------- Polly Hunter Captain of Flocktarts Avatar by Hedvvig |

I can't speak for my colleagues, but it is certainly traditional that Oceanmasters look favorably upon the Great Carving of the Pumpkins. :) |

Oh dear, Cronus, there are NEVER any leftover pumpkin seeds in my home. But, if you want, I'll get an extra pumpkin and make you your own batch and mail them to San Francisco! :p ---------------------------------------- The name is Synful. ------------------------ Avatar by myself |

I have a question -- do the "lit" pictures have to be taken in the dark? (I'm asking because I had a lot of trouble as a judge last year trying to tell on some pictures what parts of the thing glowed, since the room was so bright around the lit pumpkin. I thought the point was to show how they would look in the DARK.) ---------------------------------------- Feylind Midnight Ocean Event Addict |

Yes, the lit picture should be taken in a dark room. The purpose is to show which parts of the pumpkin glow when you put a light inside. If possible, you should avoid using a flash for the lit pictures as well. ---------------------------------------- Polly Hunter Captain of Flocktarts Avatar by Hedvvig |

Ok, I just came back to read everything to make sure I had it all and realized I didn't write 2009 on the paper for the progress pictures, but I have it without and with on the final picture (took another after I realized it had to have that). Will this disqualify me for not having that (so I shouldn't even bother to submit them) or will it be ok if I put both of the finish pictures with and without 2009 on it? ---------------------------------------- ladymelo Capt of Lex Gabinia Good Grief |

If you have it on the final picture, I won't disqualify you. The key is that I can tell it's this year's pumpkin, not from a previous contest. It should be clear that the progress pictures became the final product, so that's ok. ---------------------------------------- Polly Hunter Captain of Flocktarts Avatar by Hedvvig |

Umm.... Quick question before its too late... How strict is the 700x700 rule??? Cuz I noticed that mine (as well as many other's) pumpkin pictures are larger than that. Will this affect our entries? Oh, nevermind I guess... Lost track of game time and i guess it is too late, well here's to hoping that rule isnt taking into account ^^ ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by dragon913755 at Nov 1, 2009 4:43:00 PM] |

Oh is there? The post said it was Nov. 2 12:40something AM. Isnt that the deadline? Well either way, I'm just going to leave my pictures that size. I tried cropping them but it cuts them off. |

Try resizing instead of cropping if you can't crop any more. You have 6 more hours to edit as of the moment I post this, so there's still time. The 700x700 rule is so the forum formatting doesn't break and so the judges can see your pumpkins on thyeir monitors without scrolling. If an image is slightly larger, I won't disqualify it, but please keep in mind how large images affect the judges' ability to evaluate your entry. You're welcome to link additional higher-resolution images if you feel that the 700 pixel image doesn't show all of the details. ---------------------------------------- Polly Hunter Captain of Flocktarts Avatar by Hedvvig ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Squashbuckle at Nov 1, 2009 5:57:49 PM] |
