Familiar Auction Reply to this Post

Whee! Dig deep, mateys. A batch of familiars have fallen off the back of a Merchant Brig and I'm offloading them to the highest bidder. Lucky you (lucky me) !

One familiar is being auctioned off on each ocean, the type and colour is left up to the winner.

Please review the following rules carefully before submitting your bids

  • The auctions will be straight up highest bidder PoE auctions. Auction threads are linked below, one for each ocean.

  • The reserve price on each ocean is 500,000 pieces of eight. No bid below that will be accepted.

  • All bids must be in multiples of 10,000 PoE, and increases should be at least 10,000 PoE.

  • You may bid on multiple oceans.

  • You may not bid on behalf of other players.

  • No abbreviations: To prevent confusion and mistakes, please write out your full bid. Abbreviations will not be accepted as valid bids. (For example, if you are bidding 500,000 eights please type exactly that do not abbreviate it to 500k)

  • The earliest time that the auction will close is 11:59pm Pacific on Saturday 6th June. Each auction will then close as soon as the current highest valid bid has stood for 24 hours (therefore, if a high bid has been in place since before 11:59pm Pacific on Friday the 5th the auction would close immediately at 11:59 pm on Saturday).

  • In all of your bids, you should state:

    Your bid in PoE.
    Your pirate name.

  • Familiars are available in any color subject to the usual restrictions of no all-white or all-black, Atlantean or Indigo. Monkeys, parrots or octopi only. No Ippolito or serpents in stock.

  • When the auction closes, (or rather, as soon as I see the thread after a high bid has stood for 24 hours!) I will post in the thread. The winning bidder has 24 hours from that post to PM me with the name of the pirate holding the money and the choice of familiar. This must be a pirate on the same account as the bidding pirate. If the bidder fails to send the information to me within 24 hours, or does not provide the full amount, I will post in the thread, and the second highest bidder will have 24 hours from that post to provide the requested information and so on.

  • Do not bid unless you have the ability to pay.

  • Do not edit your bid posts. If you are outbid and/or wish to bid higher, please post a new reply.

  • Post any comments/questions in this thread. Auction threads are for bidding only.

  • Links to the auction threads:

    Malachite

    Midnight

    Sage

Any particular reason this thread and the bidding threads were removed for a large part of yesterday?

I think what was implied is all familiars visible on the Wiki palette except for all black and all white, meaning that monkeys still have additional restrictions.

Nah. This way we can link it on the in-game events list on the noticeboard. :)

Edit: besides, the events forums have many auctions in.

Any valid colour for the familiar type that doesn't fall into the restricted list outlined in the rules is available. Specifically that means no blue, lime or whatever monkeys but yes to octopii in whatever colours are available (which I believe are all cloth colours) , even ones the YPPedia hasn't updated with.

I'm thrilled that a rich alt has yet again won the familiar on our ocean. I wish people would just stick to their home ocean, honestly.

An alt bought a familiar on a different ocean than his main for what reason again....? Coming over to win and sell them I understand. Coming over to buy one simply doesn't make sense.

Because he thought he would have a better chance here? And then he could sell it, and turn it into doubloons and throw them to his main? =o

Think about what you just said. Someone is going to come to a different ocean to buy a familiar so he can sell it and then return to his normal ocean?

What makes you think that he can sell a familiar that he just out bid everyone for, for a greater amount right after the auction? Even if he could, why even bother bringing poe to an ocean to buy something that you will just sell back right after? Seriously, am I missing something here?

I don't understand this either. See, I did a bit of research and looked up the fellow who won the Hunter auction over our friend up there.

He doesn't really look like an alt....

I've been playing Hunter for almost two years now, and he has the same carping experience that I do (not saying much, but still). Are you saying that he's moved over to Hunter from another ocean? As someone who's moved oceans several times out of sheer boredom...how is that bad, exactly? So he moved from another ocean, and wanted a familiar. To say he "wants to sell it and move the PoE back" is silly, as he's already named it, and still has it.

I mean, for someone who's an alt from another ocean, he sure seems to be getting comfortable. Shipyard stall and a IM stall...for an alt who's just there to steal your familiars, he doesn't seem to be doing it right.

I'm sorry you didn't get another familiar, Scurvy. Maybe next time bid higher than him? :-)

Edit: And stick to their own oceans, lulwut ? <3

Are you sure it's not the alt of a player from your ocean? I know a lot of people are shy of these things and prefer to buy the familiar on an alt and recolor/trade to main.

EDIT: Link sniped; he doesn't look like much of an alt.

Yes. Although, it's rather complicated. I'll willingly explain, just not on this wavelength.

Seriously, it's a poe auction. If someone has the poe and really wants a familiar, getting the desired type and color isn't going to be exceedingly difficult. Maybe it was a bit easier and potentially more profitable, but the difference should be marginal.

There's no reason for it to be a big deal. It's not like it was won in some contest or bakeoff.
