![]() Me distillery on Fintan is dusting later today (finally), and in its place we are building townhouses! To celebrate the ground-breaking, we're hosting an event loosely based on Oceanus' Shack of Zen. What: Decorate the basement of a townhouse using a maximum budget of 40,000 PoE. Prices for furniture are to be based on "reasonable" prices and availability in the Onyx archipelago. Only furniture that ye can order is allowed (no Atlantean, etc.). No need to actually go out an buy the furni, though, we're using the scene editor for this one. When: Now! And entries accepted until 10 PM June 13th, 2009. How to enter: Download the scene editor using the link above. If that doesn't work for ye, try Smelly's weblaunch dealy (which seems to work for some people) here. Then get the file for the basement here. Save it as a .xml file from yer browser and then ye can use it in the scene editor. Is not hard, I did it almost entirely without dweeb help. Ok, once ye have the scene to edit, start editing! Then go out to Onyx and visit the fine furnishers there to price the items ye are using. Once ye are finished editing, look under <Actions> in the editor to save yer full scene (if this doesn't work for ye, take a screenie of it) and then post it in the entry thread. Please include yer items and rough prices in yer entry, as well as yer pirate name. We will be checking prices soon after entries are posted, and will pm ye to resolve any discrepancies we find. Prizes: Will be awarded based on creativity, style, and originality. A basement can be any kind of room, from a wild jungle to a sterile laboratory, so let yer imagination run wild! First: A free townhouse (I'll hand ye 40k), the furniture to make yer dream basement in it (I hand ye another 40k), and a moving truck to help ye move in (a cutter ported at Fintan). Second: A free townhouse (Yep, 40k) and a trailer to help ye move (a sloop ported at Fintan). Third: Furniture (20k) and a trailer (a sloop ported at Fintan). Provided ye can get the editor to work, this should be a fun and not-too-difficult event, so give it a try! Special thanks to: Meadflagon for making the scene of the basement and helping to plan this event, Molasses for the gorgeous image, and Darksmell for the tech support. Thanke mates, and happy decorating! ~Guppygurl, gubnah of Fintan, using the "royal we" to represent Polaris. Edit: Added some prizes and also: Please only one entry per pirate, so do yer best! ---------------------------------------- Guppygurl, Cobalt Ocean. Sorry! I do always forget something. It's a left-facing townhouse, and I just placed the construction site! Yay! Also, I added some prizes and the request of one entry per pirate, please see above. Thanke! Edit 2: I got a question about using the scene editor, so I'll just post here and hopefully it will help more of ye. The question was: Q: How do ye change the color of furniture? A: Place the furniture in the scene. At the top of the editor are 2 lil crate pictures and an arrow. The middle one is "edit object tiles". Click that, then click on yer furniture and choose yer "colorizations" in the box that comes up. Be sure to click on the "place/delete tiles" crate again (to left of edit) to go back to placing furniture. I think I'll just keep answering questions in this post, it keeps me post count down, heh. ---------------------------------------- Guppygurl, Cobalt Ocean. Gah, This means I will have to do some reasearching :( Hate the budget... cant you give us an unlimited budget but 40k to spend?! Can I enter more than one entry then you just decide which is best? ---------------------------------------- Lcawte All Oceans Sage: Lcawte - Captain Of Scottish Seadogs , King Of Scottish Seakings Viridian: SO of Hellas |

I really thought about the budget. I "designed" several rooms and priced them before posting this event, all of them were less than 40k. Pricing them took all of 10 minutes, is not hard. Ye can also take a look at some of the entries already submitted for an idea of how much things cost.
I'm hoping lots of mates enter this, but I do not hope to be drowned in entries. So, ye judge yerself a lil bit and save us lots of work. Perhaps ye could do a few designs, then price them, and then submit whichever one is within the budget? Ye have until June 13 to get yer entry in (or perform yer last edit), so it's plenty of time. If ye are really torn between two of yer entries, ye can post them and ask for feedback until the deadline, I suppose. Just have only one by the end! Edit: And here's some more stuff! 1. The web launch dealy (http://ypp.dweeb.com/editor.html) has the new furniture. Note that the ship's bell is hidden under "Treasures" "Misc", right above the snow blocks. Ye can download the new furni if necessary from the yppedia's scene editor entry (as long as ye use Windows, I think). If ye can't get it to work try the web launch, if that also fails please pm me and I will do me best! 2. If ye are using internet explorer, ye may have trouble saving the basement scene file. Please try using another browser (there are many available for free on the internets) which does have an easy-to-use file save. I'm asking mates for the shortcut keys to save a file using IE, please post if ye know em! 3. Save yer work early and often! It's pretty easy to remove a misplaced item, but much harder to replace the piece of wall it took out with it. Also, best to figure out how to save it before ye put too much work into it. Wheee! We're all learning how to use the scene editor! And on so many different platforms :D Isn't that a prize in itself? ---------------------------------------- Guppygurl, Cobalt Ocean. This scene editor is a neat piece o' work! I shall 'ave to try it out when I'm decoratin' me own place, to see how I like the pricey gear before I run out and buy it. I am a little confused on one part o' this. I have gone to "actions" and clicked "save full scene," but I don't see any new files or anything I can put on an image hosting site. Could anyone fill me in on how I get from the scene I've made to something I can share? Ideally it'd be nice to have a direct way rather than a screen-shot solution, because I got a tiny screen and nothing more sophisticated than Paint to do editing with. Shanglan |

First ye'll need to find where the image got saved, hopefully ye named it something unique so yer file search dealy can find it. Once ye know where it is, ye'll need to host yer image on a website. I host mine on photobucket (it's free to use if ye don't count the ads). If ye right click to view random images on these forums ye'll be taken to where they are hosted so ye can see a range of options. I totally forgot to include that step! Sorry for me oversight, feel free to post if ye have further troubles with this. Also, I totally agree about playing with the scene editor! Ohhhh the rum bottles I could fit in the palace ... ---------------------------------------- Guppygurl, Cobalt Ocean. Let the greenies communicate! |

Yay for the scene editor! I remember before I found that this thing existed I would copy and paste the images of furniture from a stall, and then copy and paste them on top of the empty room inside Paint Shop Pro. Took so long, and ye could never line stuff up exactly like it would appear in game. lol But anyway.... When you do the "save full scene," it makes an image file (png format) called fullscene.png. At least it does for me. As far as where it puts that file, well, I dunno where it would be on any particular machine. I would suggest searching your hard drive for "fullscene.png" and hopefully it will find it, and then you'll know where it puts the picture! :) This png can then be uploaded to Photobucket, Imageshack, etc. Might want to rename it something meaningful to ye, as well. :) And don't forget to save yer scene as an XML file so ye can edit later! :) Hope something in all that helps! ---------------------------------------- . . ~~~Meadflagon~~~ -----Cobalt, and only Cobalt :) ----- . . |

I found it! Searchin' for "fullscene" did indeed work. The editor popped it into the Three Rings program files area instead o' where I had all o' the .xml files. Thank ye both very kindly for the help - ye're right kind and generous with yer time. Shanglan |

Finding the File-Save on Internet Explorer. If the bar containing File, Edit, View, Favorties, Tools and Help are missing then...using the IE toolbar click on "Tools" (it should have a little cog by it) from there click on "Menu Bar". You should now see the bar that contains "File". Click on "File" then "Save As". Name your file and save. I saved to my desktop and it loaded right into the scene editor. :) ---------------------------------------- Boggybloo - Cobalt Blooregard everywhere else. Thanke Bogs! It has come to our attention that there are no exotic carpets for sale in Onyx. Sorry about that, mates! To allow ye to use these swell furniture items, I'm making up a price based on Jade. Likely if someone did get gold paint in Onyx, they'd be on the expensive side. So, excluding the use of gold and black cloth, we'll assign all other exotic carpets the price of 17k. Aye, it's not realistic, I'm sorry about that, but at least ye can possibly use one in yer scene! Please let me know if there are any other items ye can't get a price for. ---------------------------------------- Guppygurl, Cobalt Ocean. Let the greenies communicate! |

Same here. I love the whole concept o' that room. Every house needs one! And the pirate schoolhouse is grand as well. Great contest idea, Greentail - I'm lovin' the entries, ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Shanglan at Jun 4, 2009 1:31:41 PM] |

Ahoy mates! Just a reminder that ye have until 10 PM tomorrow (Saturday) to edit/submit yer entries! That's 5 AM Sunday GMT. Edits after that time may lead to disqualification, which would be a real shame, so be careful! ---------------------------------------- Guppygurl, Cobalt Ocean. Let the greenies communicate! |

Ok, we have the results! Our initial dream that the judges would agree came crashing down immediately. So we brought in an additional judge and then applied the Condorcet method to determine winners without ties. Mates, there were so many fabulous entries, and I hate to not have prizes for everyone. I hope that getting to play with the scene editor and having a challenge was somewhat of a reward in itself, and hopefully everyone enjoyed getting to see the rooms as much as I did! In order that every judges' top 3 get something, I'm awarding out to 5th place. If ye haven't looked at the entry thread yet, do so! So, in 5th place we have Mancomb's Exchange of Vows room. This one excelled in originality, with a fancy bar segment transformed into an altar! Ye really knocked our socks off with this one, thanke mate! Yer prize is yer choice of a dog or cat pet (or 12k), I shall stalk ye in game to give it to ye. In 4th place is Boggybloo's Sibling Rivalry Room! This one definitely was a popular entry, super job making a room that not only worked in yer theme, but also simulated a bnav board! Yer prize is yer choice of pig or sheep pet (or 25k)! In 3rd place is Chocorose's Arrrtists Studio. We loved the creative placement of the wine glasses and paintings. Aye, ye can't do that in game, but it looks great in the editor! Ye get the furniture prize (bumped up to 25k) and the trailer to help ye move (sloop ported at Fintan). Please pm me to set up a time to meet if we fail to find each other. In 2nd place is Sissi's Pirate School. Great idea, great use of the furniture to make it happen! I especially liked the bulletin board by the stairs, heh. Yer prize is a free townhouse (40k) and a trailer to help ye move in (sloop ported at Fintan)! Again, please help me find ye :) Finally, our First place winner is Jackarius for La Restaurant! Beautiful room with everything ye need for a restaurant, including a waiting/reservation list and cash register! Ye win the free townhouse, furniture package, and moving truck! Please help me find ye to give ye yer prize! I also have honorable mentions for Shanglan -- this was a really unique entry, ye should be proud -- Luvlynh for her very creative entry, and Dexla's great use of bargain furniture to turn a basement into a spooky jungle! I do hope we can run another event like this, or someone else will, so these mates can shine again! ---------------------------------------- Guppygurl, Cobalt Ocean. Let the greenies communicate! |
