Monthly Familiar Puzzle Competitions Reply to this Post

Avast! To all you fine* crafting and duty puzzlers out there: Get ready to show off your skills!

Each month we will be hosting a number of puzzle competitions with a colour familiar as the grand prize. This post will be updated each month with the scheduled familiar competitions. In addition to the scheduled competitions you may also notice impromptu and unannounced tan familiar competitions coming to an ocean near you!

A few important notes:

  • All times are listed in Pacific Time
  • Times listed are when the competitions will start, not when they first appear on the tournament board.
  • Unless specified otherwise all competitions will occur at the same time on all oceans with the same familiar prize
  • This thread is for the announcements and discussion of monthly familiar puzzle competitions. Any discussion or comments regarding the puzzle competition feature should be kept in the relevant Game Design thread.
  • Regarding days and times: As these are ongoing competitions even if a time does not suit you there is always next month! We will be making every effort to try and spread things out a bit so a specific puzzle will not be at the same time twice in a row.

Anyway there could be a fix to the Shipwright exploit before the competition? And if not any possibility to push the SW competition back until the fix is made?

This.

Are competitions *still* going to be one duty report scoring? Despite the fact that it's been demonstrated that the current system sucks, for all sorts of reasons? Or are they finally going to be fixed?

Duration will be obviously differ between the puzzles but will also differ between competitions. One month you may get a 15 minute Distilling competition whilst the next it may be 30. I don't anticipate many, if any at all, hours long competitions (with the exception of any possible multi-puzzle competitions) so you should plan to be online when the competition starts.

Is the word "fine" meant to relate to the uproar on this thread? I see you did say grand prize, but I guess that the top incred might not necessarily the case...?

Don't read too much into it, I was just being topical :)

As long as I'm posting the competitions familiars will only be awarded to first place. I'm sure that will go for future OMs as well.

Oh hell thank you so freaking much you wouldn't even believe how happy I am to hear this!

That's not a question!

So in future months after May, June for example will there be the same thing but with other puzzles such as bilge, sailing etc. ?

Yep!

Will there be any gunning familiar competitions in the near future then?

You'll have to wait until June to see the next schedule. As these competitions will be ongoing we will get to all the puzzles in the near future.

Anyway there could be a fix to the Shipwright exploit before the competition? And if not any possibility to push the SW competition back until the fix is made?

Ah, good catch! Yeah, the developers are aware of the issue and are looking into it. I'll check in early next week to see if a fix will be ready for before the competition. If not, the competition will go ahead at the same date and time but with a replacement puzzle.

This`ll cut into the time i have to learn for my final exams. Oh well. I`d like to thank you for spreading the competitions out nicely over the time zones (especially rigging). Looking forward to this.

You're quite welcome! I'm hopefully going to make a habit of it :)

The competition 'Familiar Distilling' has ended.
Tiner won the 1st category in Distilling!
Firsel won the 2nd category in Distilling!
Pandaeater won the 3rd category in Distilling!
Vnork won the 4th category in Distilling!

I'd like to point out that the winner is a first time familiar winner. So we can drop all those comments about the "same old" people winning everything. Congrats Tiner :)

Edit: Congrats to Stevensam too! Seriously mate, I don't begrudge multiple winners at all (or I'd have to begrudge myself). I just especially wanted to point out that a really terrific puzzler won her first today on Sage.
