Tournaments for Real-Life Y!PP Prizes! (16-17 May 2009) Reply to this Post
Reply with Quote

12 tournaments - 3 of each puzzle, 2 on each ocean

The top prize in each tournament will be a trinket that entitles the winner to a real-life Y!PP prize.

Saturday 16th May at 4pm game time
Midnight: Swordfighting, random cleaver
Cobalt: Rumble, boxing, byo
Viridian: Rumble, no bludgeons
Sage: Drinking, byo, 4/2000
Hunter: Treasure drop, turbo, best 2 of 3
Malachite: Swordfighting, random backsword

Sunday 17th May at 11am game time
Midnight: Drinking, classic, 4 colors
Cobalt: Treasure drop, turbo, holes, 4th rnd halved, best 2 of 3
Viridian: Drinking, no mugs, 5/1500
Sage: Treasure drop, 30s
Hunter: Swordfighting, byo, best 2 of 3
Malachite: Rumble, byo, best 2 of 3

Real-life Y!PP prize choices Other notes:
  • Real-life prize may only be claimed by the pirate who won the tournament (who will be named on the trinket's inscription)
  • Real-life prize must be claimed by the end of May. After that, you just get to keep the trinket, and forfeit any claim to a real-life prize.
  • There is no in-game prize substitution if you do not want the real-life prize. You may want to skip the tournament if you're not interested in the prize!
  • Each ocean only has two tournaments - we are expecting people to use other oceans to find their favorite puzzle. As the main prize is a real-life prize rather than an in-game prize, please don't give anyone a hard time about this!
I've won a real-life prize trinket! How do I claim?
  • Keep the winning trinket on your person (i.e. don't trade it away or put it in a display case)
  • From the pirate you won the trinket with send in a petition (go to Ye, then Help, then Petition)
  • Use "Real-life tournament prize" as your petition subject
  • In the body of the petition, please include your real name, your full mailing address, and your choice of real-life Y!PP item from the list above.
  • The on-duty OceanMaster will then check your information is complete, remove your winning trinket, and replace it with another trinket as an in-game memento of your win. Please be patient, and leave the petition open, if this is not done immediately.
  • Your name and mailing information is passed onto the Three Rings Office, who will mail your prize to you as soon as they are able.

Appreciate the existance of events like these, thanks for doing it, but . . . .

again with the boxing. And only on Cobalt. Every other ocean gets to enjoy some real Rumble and we get the Cliff's Notes version again?

If by every other ocean you mean Viridian and Malachite, then you're right, but since 3 oceans don't get rumble at all maybe you should just plan on traveling to one of the oceans that has the settings you'd like. I think there's a pretty even mix of the types of puzzles.

Real-life Y!PP prize choices

The tote bags look really nice and high quality, so do the mouse mats, and all I'll add about the cards is that once they've been used a billion times (me missus plays a lot of solitaire) they are still pretty nice but starting to fray on the edges ;)

There are three of each type of puzzle, and I tried to mix the settings up for each puzzle. I also tended towards accessible settings on the free days to allow for people coming from other oceans, and I was more likely to use "bring your own" on non-free days. I tried to have one of each puzzle on the subscription oceans, two of each puzzle on the doubloon oceans. In splitting the puzzles between Saturday and Sunday, I tried to favor the free puzzles over the non-free. It's not going to suit everyone, but I did put some thought into it.

I do appreciate it that you (and the others) put thought into these things, which is why I tried to preface my one nitpick with an expression of gratitude to y'all for having events like this in the first place.

For my part . . . I'm not interested in going to any other oceans, pretty much ever. I play where I play, not where I don't play. I also tend to think it would rather asshatish of me to go to another ocean and potentially alt-abuse (IMHO) some poor player out of a prize they actually want when all I want is an opportunity for some good (real) Rumble. So, instead, I just threw in my $.02. No effigy burning involved or implied.

Eww, boxing.
Malachite looks fun, I've always fancied having a go with a backsword.
Are the initial trinkets ooak, rare or just cookies e.t.c.?

The on-duty OceanMaster will then check your information is complete, remove your winning trinket, and replace it with another trinket as an in-game memento of your win.

Is it possible to pick what ocean we get this replacement trinket on?

No, I'm afraid not. You get the in-game prize on the ocean and pirate you won it on.

Out of curiosity can we give it to someone else? Keep the trinket but send it to someone else?

It's supposed to be you, but I'm not sure I'd know if a name and address wasn't your own. Please don't provide someone else's information without their explicit permission for that purpose, though.
