[Deadline August 16] Lime Day Forum Contests!, August 2008!

Ahoy folks! This month's Lime Day will be an exciting one I'm sure. With all of the puzzle competitions going on, doing an in-game specific contest during the day would be pretty difficult, so that is why I am posting this lovely forum-based contest for you all.

This contest is a 3-parter, you can choose to enter one, two, three or none of these events!

Part one: Lime Poetry!
Description: For this contest, you must write a Lime-based poem. The maximum number of words in your poem is limited to 200. Winner of this contest will recieve a lime laurel of victory!

Part two: Lime story time!
Description: For this contest, you must tell a story that focuses on the color lime or the fruit lime. The story cannot be more than 500 words long. Winner of this contest will recieve a Scapegoat prize-winning egg.

Part three: Lime art!
Description: For this contest, you must make a piece of art that conveys the color/fruit lime in a very powerful light. It must be olympic-like and glorious! Winner of this contest will recieve a lime laurel of victory!

The deadline for all three of these events is the end of this month's Lime Day. (August 16, 2008 at 11:59:59 PM).

Please post entries and questions in this thread!

Q: How many of each can we enter?
A: Each pirate may enter up to three in each category.

Re: [Deadline August 16] Lime Day, August 2008!

Woot! A chance to show off my PoE-e-try!

(Question, can we enter more than one poem?)

A savvy entry for Part One: Lime Poetry! (The $ starts and ends the word count)

$ I know a time, dare I say,
A most pleasant holiday,
A day dedicated to limes n' other limey things,
You have no idea what fun it brings!
Stevensam created it, 'twas a great idea,
Streched across the ocean via-
Tounaments, games, and prizes galore!
Forget politics on this shore-
'cause Lime Day's got fun amore! $

(Verse 2)

$ I know you're thinking, "I'm not sure"
Plunge right in, fun I can assure,
The date's the sixteenth every month, always, mate
Sixteenth o' December, was it's starting date-
It all began, with a lime in a crate! $

I counted 94 words. Thanks!

I'll go ahead and say that there will be a limit of three types of entry per person. That means if you want to do 3 art, 3 poems and 3 stories, you can.

Re: [Deadline August 16] Lime Day Forum Contests!, August 2008!

My Lime Day story through the eyes of Limey the lime.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As a young lime I lived on a tree soaking in the sun, and chatting with all of my brothers on the branch. I lived on the tree with my siblings for a few months until i was snatched away from my warm paradise and loaded into a crate with several other limes.
After I was lime-napped from my home and put in a crate to be hauled away to who knows where I found myself in a dark, cold place. I expected that this was the fabled warehouse; which was the basis of many lime folktales. many legends say that you would be taken to the warehouse to sit to "ripen". Then you would be eaten or served in alcholholic refreshments by giant canabilistic limes.
The days progressed as I sat in the warehouse with only the company of the other limes around me (who I might say were becoming quite irritable and were very unhappy about being stuck in a box for days on end). Then one day our crate got picked up and hauled away to another store room.
Shortly after being moved, we, the other limes and I were put into a brightly lit room filled with limes and other citrus. Slowly... strange apes started to fill the room holding baskets and pushing carts. Every once in a while, one of the apes would come and take one of us away. It was then that I realized that my time was soon to come.
~ I felt one of the apes huge hands grab me and shove me into a clear bag, that is where I blacked out. ~
The next thing that I remember is being set on a wooden board and being cut into with a very sharp knife. this hurt alot less than I thought it would. That is how I got here... sitting on a white sandy beach stuck in a Corona bottle, watching the waves roll by.
Re: [Deadline August 16] Lime Day Forum Contests!, August 2008!
Twas the Night Before Lime Day
A rhyming, liming story
Twas the night before Lime Day
and all through the seas
nothing was stirring
not even a breeze.
Lime suits were hung
in wardrobes with care
for everyone knew Lime Day
soon would be there.
A very special Lime Day
celebrating twice!
Stevensams birthday
how doubly nice!
The great day arrived
all dressed in their best,
to join in the tourneys
and join in the fest!
But what was this?
How could it be?
Stevensam was missing
his own reverie!
All who could
typed slash double u (/w)
but of Stevensam
there wasn't a clue!
Garden Cradle
was all in a stir!
What had become of their
beloved Govenor?
And then an annoucment came
dread news it brought forth!
Chilling the soul
like a wind from the North.
"I am the Brigand King-
Puce be my name!
Henceforth colorful days
will not be the same!
I have abducted
yer beloved Stevensam
If ye 'ere wish to seem him
ye must follow my plan!
All things lime
must be dumped in the sea
Or he'll be my prisoner
for all eternity!
2 hundred billion
pieces of eight!
Delivered to me
before its too late!"
The pirates all shuddered
and voiced thier dismay!
Who was this King that
took Stevensam away?
"To the ships,"
the pirates all cried
"This despoiler of Lime Day
must be defied!"
All scurried to man
thier sloops and their dhows,
the captains stood shouting
from atop of the bows
"To the Sea, to the sea,
set the course-
we'll look to the East,
South, West and North!"
Word soon came that
King Puce had been found
and all hurried quickly
to gather around
Hundreds of pirates
in boats from afar
all pledged together
to finish this war!
The cannonballs flew
rubble rained down
smoke filled the air,
several mates drowned.
And at the end
alone on his ship
sat the broken King
with his sword at his hip.
"All I ever wanted
all that I desired,
was for one to look at me
and be thusly inspired,
theres no clothes in my color
no weapons or paint.
Why the Lime?" he asked
"Thats my complaint!"
Around him lie
his fallen mates,
who had banded with him
to stamp out this date.
"There is no choice
no other recourse
I cannot keep him
against your great force,
Therefore I
Brigand King Puce
Must stand forth and
offer this truce!
I will return Stevensam
not harm a hair on his head,
though I could still slay him,
render him dead.
All that I ask for,
I humbly beseech,
Petition the OM's
and give them my speech."
"To the OM's
From Brigand King Puce
A new color I ask for,
please introduce!
The pirates agreed
to carry forth his words,
and turned round thier ships
and lowered thier swords.
They sailed away
from the devastated King,
who'd ever heard
such an unhappy thing?
For though they all
had shared in the pledge
What OM would ever
add the color -dredge?
A Lime Haiku:
Behold! A great name!
Cirtus Latifolia
Ordinary lime
A Lime Poem
Never have I
in all my time
been required to know
so much about limes!
Culinary uses-
too many to name!
Margaritas without 'em
wouldn't be the same.
Prevention of scurvy
enhancing ones mood
Yes the lime is one dandy
multi-use food!
Alright mates, judging is compete.
The winner for poetry you really should meet.
Though her story was grand,
Her poetry will land
A great lime prize as her treat!
Sultana wins poetry.
Our other two categories, while only having a couple of entries, are both won by Scottsbluff, which reminds me, I'll need to know your in-game name so I can give you your laurels of victory!
