Punch-list items, for review. Reply to this Post

Wanted to share these pictures. They make the mistakes my contractor is making look petty.

It's a very important exit sign.

Look at the plan! It shows a wall - so I built a wall.

The width of the what?

Escher would be proud.

Going up, up, up and... ouch.

Well, the neighbor's below don't make much noise.

Clearance: 3'-6"

At least you're saved the $3 withdrawal fee.

You mean you don't have 2?

Tough stairs.

Yeah, these guys did a good job putting those columns, but how do they get out again?

Surely the faucet isn't on the way at all.

Wrong way dooors.

Those must be really small cars.

Now we know that pole will never fall.

Looks fine...

think again.

Actually, this is totally legit. As, standardly exit signs are placed directly centered above the doors if its where they can go out in both doors. Because its off over the left door and not centered, means you can only exit the left door. I see it all the time.

Edit: I cun speil gud.

Edit2: Oh, the tub one, I dont get. Can someone explain?

Is this in Pennsylvania? because there are streets that are that steep and people don't even bother stopping further back if you're caught at the red light right before the top of the hill. It's a good thing I own such a light car. >.>

I do wonder how many of these are photoshopped, though. You'd think anyone who has seen stairs and doors in their lives would know better.

To be fair there's a wide world of difference between new constructions and repair/remodel/renovation.

My boss pointed me to this blog from somebody who apparently works at one of those big box DIY centers. And of course, This Old House magazine has a great occassional feature - Home Inspection Nightmares. This is my favorite picture from the series:

This one? I suspect that plumbing the thing was a bit awkward since the faucets aren't on the wall sides but other than that I don't see a major problem. More intriguing is the presence of that huge window located so strategically.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the tap is supposed to be in that recessed part directly under the window, so you wouldn't catch your dangling bits against it whilst climbing in....

A lot of these are in Russia it seems like. Remind me not to hire any Russian contractors. That said, the upside down house is still my favorite. I mean... HOW?

At least they put in the notch. A really lazy contractor would just leave it whole and render the bathroom Skinny People Only. I hope there's some kind of velcro flap inside for privacy. Then again, I could probably just hold my hand over it. >.>

I have a feeling the upside-down house was on purpose and done relatively better than a lot of the other things here.
