Just some notes regarding trophies. I was a bit disappointed how short sighted a lot of the trophies are. Most if not all (with the exceptions of the ults) of the trophies can be gained in two or three days of playing. As mentioned by some others, things like making it so the bilging crabs could easilly be changed to silver crab being 500 sets of 2X Crabs released, then gold being 3X, and bejwelled being 5X. This making it more likely the trophies would take longer to obtain, so maybe a pirates life span for getting most trophies isn't a week or two.

Also, making it so the navy doesn't count towards any trophies. Making people pillage and and actually impact the ocean wouldn't really be a bad thing. It might be somewhat aggravating at first for those trying to run a ship, with people begging for certain stations, but after the trophy hype dies down, it will balance out.

Loading 1000 guns is just time consuming, but anyone can do it, eventually. How about 1000 execellents or incredibles, instead of just cannons loaded? With navy null'd, means more than just wasting a whole lot of cannon balls, or actually pillaging and blockading for those rewards, but doing good at the puzzle during those events.

I'm getting the feeling this was tossed in as a temp fix for keeping the higher end players busy for a bit, but really, it doesn't help to expand on the game or the value. In another week or two I should have most of the trophies, and then I'm back to being bored again.

Actually, if it were for x number of increds, I'd be fine with it being allowed on the navy botes. Maybe it'd be possible to puzzle on a navy ship without a gunner hopping onboard within a league and kicking every bot off of sails.

I think there are just several tiers of trophies, which you might not be realizing. I am very picky in recruiting for my crew, but not picky on puzzle quality at all. Therefore, I have several people who are not good enough at bilging to even see the crabs, at least unless they are trying particularly hard. Clearing 500 crabs doubtless looks like a monumental achievement for them, and 5000 looks entirely ridiculous. Although, it's not entirely unfathomable like the Ultimate trophy.

The nice thing about these trophies is that they have several "tiers" --- the crab trophies, I think, are not designed for you or me, and if we got them, we would never display them since they are not something we are proud of. They give someone who is not a top-notch bilger a chance at trying for something difficult and shiny to put on their pirate page.

If all the trophies were targetted at the "top puzzlers" (who already have familiars and trinkets to try for, and now even #1 and ultimate trophies), then they wouldn't really be that much "new content." The lower-to-mid-quality puzzlers are almost certainly universally happy with them.

I'm not talking about keeping it high end. But rather, something more than a couple days of work. As it is, the oceans are tiny. Within my first month I had been to all of the islands. You can sail around the whole ocean in 3 hours provided you have the charts.

I have never been fond of pity prizes, or catering to the ignorant. Taking bilge for example, if you read the little on ship help that is provided by clicking the "How to play bilge" it says "You are best off making only one or two swaps per clear" and by just following that rule of thumb, you an get a excellent on every league with the navy.

Oh, you're actually supposed to read how to do something? Since when? I guess I'm from a different generation of player. When I first started playing online games, you spent a good couple of days reading about all of the features, and how they worked, and how you can benefit by using them a certain way. Now adays, it just, try it, if you're good at it, cool, if not, oh well.

Back to my main point though, is that trophies should be about pirate longevity. Even a pirate that plays only on the weekends, maybe it should take them a month or two in order to be able to earn a trophy. Not an hour with the navy with their 2 year old kid sister banging on the mouse while the bilge screen is open.

Also, I think that there should be trophies for filling up X number of guns, like the crabs. I know that there is a golden cannon, so how about a bronze cannonball (500 guns), silver cannonball (1000 guns) and gold cannonball (2000 guns)? They might seem a bit small, but if you think about it, it takes some time to get to bronze (filling up 125 boards).

It needs to be lower. The bilge crabs trophies are fer 100/1000/5000. Ye should follow the same pattern with silver fer 100 boards, gold fer 1000 boards etc.

Hmm... 100 cannons... 25 full boards... gee, that's an accomplishment. Filling up 25 full boards will only take a renowned+ gunner a few minutes, or at most, a few hours. Needs to be more... I also don't like the idea of golden cannon at 1000 guns. They should have different levels, like crabs.

Seems how we're not basing trophies on any type of talent or skill, where is the "I finished the pirate creation process" trophy?

On a less sarcastic note, how about a trophy for having completed all of the missions? More than likely mentioned somewhere in the past 100 pages, but a trophy for having found and read all of the "inscriptions", which I have done twice now since trophies were introduced. How about a trophy for sailing and porting at each and every island in the ocean?

'Obsessive collector' is impossible on some oceans, unless something changes to allow Ultimate to be a possible rank in Distilling and Battle Navigation.

Crab trophies and such, meh. Well, ok, they go well with my other bilge trophies, I guess. I don't mind trophies that are given out just for puzzling time or whatever, but I am concerned that we not introduce any trophies that are going to cause people to play badly.

Plank trophy should only be implemented if it also is forced to always be displayed on your pirate page, then it serves as a warning, heh. (That's a joke, and 'no, please, do not encourage idiots to jump on my ship and scream 'plank me!' ... it happens enough anyway.)

It was mentioned awhile back, it hasn't been implemented that I'm aware of, and it there should be at least three of them - one for all the basic navy missions (maybe also require learning to swordfight and rumble in that), one for -all- the navy missions, and one for all the missions, period.

What I really want is a trophy that encourages new players to want to take all their navy missions right away, so I want spending poe missions and locked missions not involved in that.

Again, I have to repeat that apparently, everyone you know are good puzzlers. There are people who will likely never get the crab trophies. And there are people who will toil away to get them, just as I will toil away to get Ultimate Navigation.

As long as a trophy is not easily awarded to everyone, I think it's a great trophy. Apparently you think that a 2 year old can bang repeatedly on the mouse and accumulate the standing to clear 1000 crabs, but that's just not true.

I would vote yes on more trophies that are achievable by and exciting for the middle ranks, despite the fact that some high-end puzzlers will chuckle amusedly at them being displayed on a pirate page.

Actually, my point was, if they take the time to read the help, clearing something every two moves, even during their learn how to bilge mission, can get the crabs unlocked. I took an alt, did the learn to bilge mission, clearing only 3's and 3X3's using one or two moves like the help file tells you to do, and before we ported I had the crabs unlocked. Then I made a simple little mouse script that went through and randomly swapped pieces. Poor scoring, constantly getting the "Learning" rating on status reports, but lone and behond it released enough crabs after an hour to get the silver trophy.

So if your puzzlers can't bilge well enough to get the crabs unlocked, it tells me they never read the helps files, and don't know to clear something every two moves or less, regardless what that clear is. Middle range goals are fine too, but these things aren't middle ranged.

Did someone suggest an addition to the trophy you get for sinking spending 1000 poe on rumors? There should be trophies for 10k, 100k, and 1M.

Aesthetically, I'm in the camp of people-who-think-trophies-should-be-tough-to-obtain, but not the grind level of obtaining. A weekend should be enough time to obtain certain trophies, while others (like the ults) should be super difficult.

While not terribly difficult, 100 crabs actually takes some time to acquire. That seems like a reasonable low-end. I'd remove the "click the guy at the inn repeatedly" trophy, simply because it requires no real skill. I'd also push for more color separation between approximate difficulty levels... easy trophies in silver, tougher trophies in gold with a little color, impossible trophies in lots of colors.

More trophy ideas:

Landowner: own a house / cottage / etc on every island that one can
Bourgeois: own more than 10 businesses for more than 6 months
Moneybags: have more than 10 milllion poe at one time.
Super Fabulous: total wardrobe value above 1 million poe.
Nice Folk: rare trophy given out manually by the ringers to good pirates.
Master of Ceremonies: put up more than 1,000,000 POE in tournaments overall.
TD Ringer: Get more than 150 points with a single drop in Treasure Drop.
Sword Ringer: drop more than 50 blocks on your opponent with a single move.
Hearts Ringer: Shoot the sun (take all hands)
Rumble Ringer: drop more than 100 balls on your opponent with a single move
Hearts / TD / PD / etc veteran: play more than 1,000 matches, win or lose.
Legend: Win a legendary tournament, which would be a once-a-year series of tournaments, like the olympics, for Puzzle Pirates.

They've had these all along. They are called familiars.

I don't want to seem rude, so I'll try to word this as nicely as possible. Just because a player is an OM doesn't mean he/she is all that great at the puzzles (please don't hit me).

Some of these might seem a bit extreme, or just plain wonky but I'm looking for medium-length accomplishments that are distinct, but not common feats.

Sober Warrior: Win five consecutive battles on a ship with no rum
Sailor's Heart: Pillage with twenty straight battles
Life of the Party: Held a party which was attended by 25 pirates through the Host a Party interface
Fish Feeder: Destroy 100 of a single type of fruit at one time by throwing it overboard
Flurry of Blades: Drop six swords at once on another player in a PVP swordfight
Hand Craftsman: Build a sloop (or larger ship) from start to finish with only one character's puzzled labor (no employment)
Librarian: Have every map for an ocean in your booty at once
Stinky Drawers: Fill a bludgeon trunk completely with fish

I mentioned this in another thread before the trophy threads were consolidated.

Please! Please!! Please!!! Come out with trophies for sails and carp like there is with bilge (crabs). Every brig/frig pillage I get on these days has an excess of bilgers. I jumped on a frig pillage yesterday that was still sitting in port; there were 1-3 sails filled, 2-3 carps filled, and every single bilge station filled! It's getting really ridiculous. I'm all for rewarding people for sitting on one station for hours, but we need to reward them semi-equally for all the basic duty stations (or at least not reward more for the duty with the least number of stations), otherwise things get really unbalanced.

/me wants to see people fighting to get sails for once

Station popularity: Guns > Bilge > Sails > Carp. That's the way it's always been, even before trophies. OOO probably added the bilge trophy first because they were thinking of the greenies. Adding a gun trophy is thinking of the elite, of course. Who in their right mind lets a merely average gunner anywhere near the station? >.>

To make a sail trophy appealing to the greenies, it has to be for something less than incred-worthy, such as clearing square pieces or simply clearing platforms, combo or not. Carp will probably be another "Use the Special Piece 500 times" trophy. Putty buckets show up early enough.

What about different trophies for foraged jewels
or jewels won in battle. (but not that u sailed them back the two arches away, although u could do a seperate award for them.)
And when ye have won all the jewels or foraged all the jewels a chest of jewels or neckalce.

For that matter a fruit salad bowl for fruit foraged.

Just a thought

What about different trophies for foraged jewels
or jewels won in battle. (but not that u sailed them back the two arches away, although u could do a seperate award for them.)
And when ye have won all the jewels or foraged all the jewels a chest of jewels or neckalce.

For that matter a fruit salad bowl for fruit foraged.

Just a thought

Not all oceans have Gems.

Just so you know.

From the daily doodle event:

- The name of the trophy : Admiral of an Armada
- The trigger for the trophy : Own the deeds of 3 sloops, 2 cutters, 1 merchant brig, 2 war brigs, 1 merchant galleon, 1 war frigate, 1 grand friggate, have the navy rank of Admiral, and is a Senior Officer or Captain of a crew.

eh... pick how many of each type of ship that's appropriate; but at least have all of each type of ships.
