much like backgammon, where the game is so simple that between 2 good players it's almost only luck

You obviously do not play with the doubling cube. Saying that "Backgammon is 100% luck, 50/50 to each player" is like saying that both players are equal strength. Giving one person better skill, but not dominatly better skill gives them an advantage -- but not an absolute advantage -- in the game. Maybe it's 60-40 instead of 50/50.

But the doubling cube is a whole nother deal. Lets say you only win 40% of the time, but you win 2 points while you lose 1.

Your opponent wins 60%, for 6 points in 10 games.
You win 40%, or 8 points in 10 games.

The doubling cube -- playing backgammon without it is like playing a single hand of poker. Err, maybe more like playing poker with a very, very short stack. Maybe 10 BB in a 2 person game.

Where in the OP (OP = Original Post = First Post) does it tell when winners will be announced? We know bidding is closed, we don't know how long we need to wait for the bids to be checked, verified ... judging to be done if it's needed etc.

Viridian: 3 times as much as cobalt.

Midnight either no longer has the old money, or the rich pirates already have their familiars.

Will someone be online during the last few hours for last minute bids?

It'd be nice to see up-to-date bids as the auction is closing. There may be several PMs waiting, thus, bidders should be kept abreast to keep things fair.

It may take me a while to go through all the bids for the auctions. I need to check them for validity. I have already had one case where a bid proved insufficient.

I will post here the winners as I finish them.

Cobalt

4 Tan Monkeys by Silverdawg - Navy Octopus

520,002 Jaed - Tan Monkey
511,000 Escape - Tan Monkey
499,250 Silverdawg - Tan Monkey
475,000 Ogoph - Tan Monkey

There was one higher bid, but it proved to be insufficient.

This isn't important as actually finsihing the bid inspection process. However after it is all said and done, for the Amazing Auctions, can you post all the tie breaker decisions? More specifically, can you post the different pictures you had to choose from for each ocean? THanks!

Oh I was afraid of being stuck with a bird(I hate birds!), but perhaps someone who likes birds would be willing to switch with me. At least I have a buddy on my shoulder of my own now =). Oh I know, Whitell, you can just give me your violet octo now!

Edit: Oh I just found this wonderful bald eagle sitting in my shack waiting for me! Hmm...perhaps I'll think about keeping him afterall!

What are you talking about? There are only two oceans. What three are you referring to??

Seriously though, have some patience. Think about all the hundreds of private messages BIa has to go through AND go through careuflly to confirm validity of offers. Its not even 24 hours past the deadline give her a break. She has other responsilbilities as an Om and let alone a life too i'm sure. I wouldn't want Bia to just spend every waking second trying to finish. Plus take some time and read some posts before posting....I'm sure Bia will let us all know results as they come in. Thanks Bia for doing this!

So does this means Silverdawg has won 4 familiars, or 2?

First of all, add this:

Cobalt

4 Tan Monkeys by Silverdawg - Navy Octopus

520,002 Jaed - Tan Monkey
511,000 Escape - Tan Monkey
499,250 Silverdawg - Tan Monkey
475,000 Ogoph - Tan Monkey

Then the answer:
Silverdawg has a lot more than 4 (or 6) familiars...

To gain these three familiars, he has given up 11 of them. Although I am shocked at the numbers here, I did expect there to be higher familiar bids than there were.

I think this was a fantastic way to auction. I won my very own familiar now thanks to the auction. Yes, its not the familiar of my dreams, but that may come one day. For now, my eagle and I are very happy together.

Thanks, Bia. Your auctions are always innovative and fun!

He's only given up 8, because he won 3 back in the PoE auctions.

Where are the Viridian Results; did Silverdawg win there as well? Retroactively, I think I'll refer to the October auctions as the attempted redistribution of Silverdawg's zoo.

Holy crap. I didn't think I bid high enough to win. *dies*

Although my townhouse has as many wardrobes as rooms, took me forever to find me new pet!

Thankee muchly I suppose to Silverdawg for bidding 4 familiars, as my bid was the lowest of the 4.

EDIT: although it appears that my familiar is in fact tan/grey and not tan/white. Which is all the more better as his name is Dorian Gray. :)
