No-one will be able to give you a definate date, mate. Minthe's doing her day-to-day job, and trying to judge this contest; there's no point us asking her to waste her time posting in here to let us know when she might be done.

I'd say give her another fortnight, at least. Ye can't say fairer than that. Point is, none of us actually know for sure; so we're all in the same boat.

It's time to just relax; why not read a book between now and then?

Yes; that's exactly how long it will take. It will take you the time it takes to read a novel. Starting... now.

EDIT: Om's all over the shop.

I agree with Jack. Lets just get the threads locked for the familiar contests until there is an announcement of the winners. That seems the most reasonable solution.

I completely agree, Jack...

As Bia said above:

Bia wrote:
As is the case with every contest I can think of, when judging is complete, I am sure Minthe will post the winners to this thread. Please keep the noise level down until then, as I do not want to either lock the thread or delete posts.

If you wish to discuss the entries, there is a thread for that. If you wish to discuss the nature of the contest, this is the thread to post in. In neither case should you be posting repetitive messages that annoy the other readers.

I do believe it is time for this forum to get its own rules announcement post.

So. Let's stick to Bia's advice.

It's tough judging. You came up with some great plans. There were a few flights of fancy, but overall the creativity and energy dedicated to this impressed the heck out of me. I just hope the execution is as impressive as the planning was. We'll have to see.

There were a number of strong plans for each island. I wish we could have awarded a few more. However, there's only one governor per island, and that's what we'll award.

Jorvik Island

There's a lot of tumultous history for Jorvik. It's an old island, with a lot of development, and probably the most difficult of the three to find a balanced, yet fun plan.

Ultimately, Brontes managed a deceptively simple yet elegant way to breathe some new life into this charred husk of rock.

For honorable mentions, both Kmf and Ariadne Piggy came up with good strong plans which were close to winning. Buliwif came up with some great social ideas that I'd like to see in action. Squid came up with what I think was my favorite plan in the whole contest. It was poetic, but not really what we were looking for.

Sakejima Island - Cobalt Ocean

Many of the top designers here planned for some very bold changes. I think the character reflects the relative age of the Ocean, compared to Midnight.

In the end, for a combination of strong thematic elements, fun event tie-ins, and a really impressive delivery, Avernus gets to become the new governor. Careful, everyone, it looks like he's prepping for war.

There's some honorable mentions here, too. Many of the strong Cobalt plans were similar, with the biggest drawback being either overbuilding on the island, or lack of details in a few areas. Even so, props to Beelzeglub, Flibber, and Proserpine. Tanitha did well, despite planning on getting rid of our lord and master. Jumpinjak and Lollonais both came up with plans that read like a piece of government legislation, which left me impressed.

Sakejima Island - Viridian Ocean

In some ways, these were the most creative plans. The very nature of Viridian is different from Cobalt and Midnight, and took some alternative thinking.

Charun gets the nod for a plan that's complete, fun, and amusing to read.

In the honorable mentions, Anansi had a plan that's just a smidge behind Charun's. It's good and solid, and I'd like to see the bounty idea in action. Hilden and Amoreth also had good plans. Johnnyrico and Scupdoggydog made me giggle with their humor.

There you have it. We'll need to get the governors set up on their alts, which may take a few days. We'll need a time when we're both online to get you into your respective crews. This may take a bit of coordination, so go ahead and PM me if you're one of the three winners, and we'll get that figured out.

All honorable mentions will get a consolation prize of a black and maroon ribbon, to reflect the official colors of Hades. Submit a petition, and an Oceanmaster will get that to you.

Congratulations, everyone, and thanks for the awesome response.

Though Anansi is saddened that he cannot rule Sakejima, he is pleased both with the choice of Charun as Hades' vassal and with the ribbon he now wears with pride.

The evil is here...nothing can contain it now. Prepare people of Cobalt Ocean, Prepare to send Nemo and his goodie goodies to the depths of Davy... it begins today. Let the games begin.

Stay tuned for an evil posting detailing the first few events. We need to coordinate with Hades before the infection can take over the island.

The base plan is here , but it will need to be adjusted to meet the demands of our lord Hades. (First to note is that we will be collecting Maroon Paint and not red....I am sure there are others)

Avernus
Ruler of Sakejima
Future destroyer of Nemo and his pitiful followers

Avernus
Former Overlord of Sakejima [Cobalt]

First, congratulations to the winners. Although, I didn't win the governorship on Cobalt, I did get honorable mention so that's satisfying as well.

My only fear with Avernus' plan is now I will have to move my stalls from Sakejima. I cannot afford to pay 30% taxes on 7 stalls, four of which are high end stalls. I really don't believe people will willingly give up their own crews to join something that is a passing fancy. Some may but not that many. As for citizenship to Sakejima, I have no idea how you can determine who is a citizen there and who isn't. There are already over 1000 citizens so do these numbers count for your tax decrease? Higher taxes will make people LEAVE Sakejima, not stay. This is a horrible plan for the economy of Sakejima. Sure, somethings sound fun for some people, but its my honest opinion the economy of Sakejima will be further fractured. Prices are already high to get merchant deliveries there so prices tend to go higher anyway, let alone now to increase taxes which gets pushed off to the person who purchases on the island.

The rest of his plan sounds like fun, but I now fear for Sakejima. Perhaps this was Hades' plan. Who knows?

Aye, I agree Synful, and I am worried Sakejima will stay a forgoten island in the corner of the ocean.

But anyways congraulations Avernus. I'm dissapointed, but oh well. At least I got honarable mention :P (Lollainios was my entry). I feel honored to have impressed Minthe. lol

Well good luck to all the new govenors, and Fair Winds.

Honestly, raising taxes?
With the substantial drop in people on sake, to raise taxes will further decrease this isle to the population of less than an outpost, except for the green spawn.

Increase taxes will only kiss my bootay out of sake, and as one of the last few, oh well, would rather give my taxes to someone who knows how to manage!

Honerable mentions: Build 2 shops, keep taxes low (Looterati), build two shops, keep taxes low, non-Looterati.

In fairness, favorite plan was "raise taxes, destroy island".

Cobalt: Build one of every shop, auction off the inn, taxes relatively low (5-10%).
Honerable mentions:

Taxes:
6% for 6 days a week for 6 weeks.
The 7th day shall be henceforth called "The day of Avarice" with taxes of 66%

I thought this would disqualify the person right away for not understanding taxes. ** If your tax date was on the 66% day, you can easily change this for a stall (change the grade), but cannot change it at all if you are a shop. **. But it's still one of every shop, low taxes.
Shops, low taxes. Shops, unspecified taxes.

** AAACK. <grumble grumble> crappy I.E. <grumble grumble> ate my post.

Alright. All the plans that won, or were honerable mention, ALL involve shops (at least 4; usually one of each; at least one allowed for more), almost all involved low taxes (either zero, 5-10%, or one that starts at zero and goes up 1% per week.)

I'm unhappy that I didn't make honerable mention, nor humorous mention. I'm upset at what appears to be a "pro shop, low tax" approach to ringer islands.

** As long as ringer islands are around 5% tax, player islands cannot have high taxes.
As long as ringer islands are creating new shops, and handing them out, why shouldn't player islands create new shops and hand them out?

Is the end of every island to be fully paved at zero percent, with shopkeepers complaining that labor is spread too thinly, and laborers complaining about needing to have more than 3 jobs to make sure that all their labor gets used? With the costs of running a shop so low that people don't realize that they are losing money?

Raising taxes is the healthiest thing for the ocean economies.
Yet ... was my plan of 33% on the "keep them alive" sakejimma's too much? Was the 100% on "too many shops in midnight" out of balance?

Do we need to officially reduce the high end of the tax slider?

Oh, btw: Overnight snipped by everyone :-).

Responding to the snippers: No, he is NOT saying 30% taxes. Read that proposal again. There are so many ways to lower taxes that I will be suprised if it is above 10% beyond the second week, and I expect it to be 5% most of the time.

I didn't realize it was such a hot forage spot until I dropped it and three pirates showed up on the island in quick succession.
And it wasn't even 9 spaces from the arrow :-).
