December Doodle #7 [WINNERS POSTED] Reply to this Post
Reply with Quote

22 December - Summer Christmas!

Contest opens now! Contest will finish at midnight at the end of Monday night.

Today is a day when we reflect on the less fortunate of the world, our disadvantaged brothers and sisters. By this, I mean the unlucky folk who live on the bottom half of the world, in constant danger of falling off. These poor people, unbelievable though it may seem, may never have experienced the joy and wonder of Having A Cold Nose At Yuletide. I know - enough to make you weep, aye?

We can make a difference! Let's make them feel more involved! Today, your task is to produce a close parody of any well-known Christmas or winter song - but re-themed for the unhappy souls suffering Christmas in the summer. Out with references to cold and snow and frost and huddling round open fires - in with the heat, the sun and the beach barbecues!

The number of changes you make to the lyrics is your choice - but the song should still be identifiable, and I should still be able to sing the words along to the music.

Edit: you do not have to do the entire song - a single verse or verse/chorus is enough. Of course, feel free to keep going if you're inspired!

In your event post, you should include:
-- pirate name and ocean
-- the name of your original song, and a link to a web page with lyrics on (try to use one without pop-up ads!)
-- your new lyrics (with new title if appropriate)

As a reminder, please read the general rules before posting.

Go Doodle!

My first though was "Do they know it's Christmas" without any changes but I thought that might be disallowed.

So

Janepeg of Emerald

Good King Wenceslas

Good King Wenceslas last looked out,
On the Feast of Stephen,
When the blonds lay round about,
Deeply tanned and even;
Brightly shone the moon that night,
You could see its motion,
When a poor man came in sight,
Gath'ring suntan lotion.

imp, Meridian. I probably should be doing a cold-weather parody of Santa Wear Your Shorts.
The Twelve Days of Christmas
XII days of Nullus Anxietus

On the first day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
A drop bear up a gum tree.

On the second day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Two rubber thongs,
And a drop bear up a gum tree.

On the third day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Three funnel webs ,
Two rubber thongs,
And a drop bear up a gum tree.

On the fourth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Four hungry dingoes,
Three funnel webs,
Two rubber thongs,
And a drop bear up a gum tree.

On the fifth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Five redback beers ,
Four hungry dingoes,
Three funnel webs,
Two rubber thongs,
And a drop bear up a gum tree.

On the sixth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Six red bulls biting,
Five redback beers,
Four hungry dingoes,
Three funnel webs,
Two rubber thongs,
And a drop bear up a gum tree.

On the seventh day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Seven sheilas fighting,
Six red bulls biting,
Five redback beers,
Four hungry dingoes,
Three funnel webs,
Two rubber thongs,
And a drop bear up a gum tree.

On the eighth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Eight jellies swimming,
Seven sheilas fighting,
Six red bulls biting,
Five redback beers,
Four hungry dingoes,
Three funnel webs,
Two rubber thongs,
And a drop bear up a gum tree.

On the ninth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Nine taipans striking,
Eight jellies swimming,
Seven sheilas fighting,
Six red bulls biting,
Five redback beers,
Four hungry dingoes,
Three funnel webs,
Two rubber thongs,,
And a drop bear up a gum tree.

On the tenth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Ten 'roos a-boxing, (skip to 1:40 if you just want the fight scene)
Nine taipans striking,
Eight jellies swimming,
Seven sheilas fighting,
Six red bulls biting,
Five redback beers,
Four hungry dingoes,
Three funnel webs,
Two rubber thongs,
And a drop bear up a gum tree.

On the eleventh day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Eleven cassowaries,
Ten 'roos a-boxing,
Nine taipans striking,
Eight jellies swimming,
Seven sheilas fighting,
Six red bulls biting,
Five redback beers,
Four hungry dingoes,
Three funnel webs,

Six red bulls biting,
Five redback beers,
Four hungry dingoes,

Cattrin on Cerulean

'White Christmas'

Bright Christmas

I'm dreaming of a bright Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the waters glisten,
and children listen
To hear sea gulls in the sky

-

I'm dreaming of a bright Christmas
With every sand castle I build
May you always be watching their flight
And may all your Christmases be bright

I'm dreaming of a bright Christmas
With every sand castle I build
May you always be watching their flight
And may all your Christmases be bright

-
The second verse is optional, no one knows the real second verse anyways. ;)

Greylady of Meridian
parody of "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire"

Ham and arse nuts on the barbeque
Hot sun burnin' up your nose
Surf is rising, make the waves you desire
And sand feels warm between your toes

Everybody knows a turkey and some
Plum pudding set afire to make things bright
Search each bite because you just never know
Good luck just might be in that bite!

You never know, but on this day
You might see Santa on the beach
in his Sunray's
And every mother's
Child is gonna try to see if
Santa can hang ten if he tries.

And so, I'm offering this
Simple phrase, whether
minus 10 or 102
May your day be as warm
as the Australian sun and
"Merry Christmas to you."

Aethera of Cerulean
Parody of Do You Hear What I Hear?

Said the night wind to the little crab
Do you see what I see?
Way up in the sky, little crab
Do you see what I see?
A gull, a gull, crying in the night
With a tail big as a kite.
No wait, that's actually a kite.

Said the little crab to the wading boy
Do you hear what I hear?
Ringing 'cross the bay, wading boy
Do you hear what I hear?
A song, a song, high above palm trees
With a voice as big as the sea.
No wait, that's actually the sea.

Said the wading boy to the pirate king
Do you know what I know?
Snug below your decks, pirate king
Do you know what I know?
The beach, the beach, it's all just sitting there
Let us go enjoy the sea air.
Let us go enjoy the sea air.

Said the king to the people everywhere
Listen to what I say!
Beach party, people everywhere
Listen to what I say!
With snacks, and rum, and hook volleyball
Bring sunblock and towels, one and all.
Oh, and someone be sure to bring a ball!

Pixelpixie of Cerulean:

Parody of Winter Wonderland
(Dick Smith, Felix Bernard, 1934)

Dog bells ring, are you listening,
In the lane, moon is glistening
A beautiful sight,
We're happy tonight,
Walking in a summer wonderland.

Gone asleep is the lyrebird ,
Wide awake is the night bird
He sings a love song,
As we go along,
Walking in a summer wonderland.

On the beach we can build a sandman,
Then pretend that he is Parson Brown
He'll say: Are you married?
We'll say: No man,
But you can do the job
When you're in town.

Later on, we'll conspire,
As we dream by the fire
To face unafraid,
The plans that we've made,
Walking in a summer wonderland.

On the beach we can build a sandman,
And pretend that he's a circus clown
We'll have lots of fun with mister sandman,
Until the other kids knock him down.

When it's hot, ain't it thrilling,
Though your nose gets a burning
We'll frolic and play, the hot summer way,
Walking in a summer wonderland.

Walking in a summer wonderland,
Walking in a summer wonderland.

And here is the song with music ^_^
a real "Winterwonderland" ~ this is what all your southerners are missing! (even in your light displays!!!!)
That being said...it's -40 C here today...and i'm feeling rather sorry for myself and would rather be roasting my turkey on a fire by the beach than sitting here in our *winter wonderland*

I'll Be Home For Christmas [Song to make it happy]

I'll be home for christmas,
You can count on me,
Please have Sun and lots of pools,
And maybe a (hot) santa suit.

Christmas Eve will find me,
Where there is no snow,
I'll be home for christmas,
If only white would be.

I'll be home for christmas,
You can plan on me,
Please have beach and sun screen on,
'Cause it will surely be hot.

Christmas Eve will find me,
Where the fun begins,
I'll be home for christmas,
'Cause only i will swim.

( yay for being near the beach? :x)

Herowena of Cerulean

Based on Jingle Bells and retitled "Hot As Heck":

Splashing through the surf
In a one-piece red swim suit
Trimmed with white fake fur
I look Christmas cute

With a goal to reach
Playing out my role
I stepped upon the dry sand beach
And felt it burn my soles

Oh, hot as heck, hot as heck
Curse this burning pain
A barefoot Mrs. Santa Claus
In the summer is insane

Hot as heck, hot as heck
Curse this burning pain
A barefoot Mrs. Santa Claus
In the summer is insane

Rhodanite-Cerulean

A Marshmallow World-Dean Martin

It's a fruit salad world in the summer
When the green comes to cover the ground
It's the time for play, it's an sunscreen day
Knee deep in it the whole year round.

Those are cotton-ball clouds being friendly
In the arms of the evergreen trees
And the sun is hot like a boiling pot
It's shining so your nose won't sneeze

The world is your beachball, see how it grows
That's how it goes, whenever you blow
The world is your beachball just for a song
Get out and roll it along

Faeree of Emerald

Song is based off of Deck the Halls

"Deck the Beach"

Deck the beach with lots of baskets
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
'Tis the season to be baskin'
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Don we now protective lotion
Fa-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la.
Troll the ancient surf and ocean
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la.

See the setting Sun bedazzle.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Strike the match and light a candle.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Follow me in merry measure.
Fa-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la.
While we sing of Yule-tide treasure.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Fast away the old year passes.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Hail the new year, lads and lasses
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Sing we joyous, all together.
Fa-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la.
Heedless of the heat and weather.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Based off of the article I found talking about mid-day beach picnics and ending with night-time candlelight carols :)

Redasa of emerald !

Based on Let It Snow.

i come out with horror song. i am sorry.

Let it burn!!

Oh the weather outside is delightful,
And the fire is so frightful,
But since we've no place to go,
Let It burn! Let It burn! Let It burn!

It doesn't show signs of helping,
And I've bought some bubble wrap for popping,
The fire are turned way too hot
Make it stop! Make it stop! make it Stop!

When we finally say goodbye,
How I'll hate going out in the urn!
But if you'll really wanna live,
All the way there is a fire extinguisher

Now i'm slowly dying,
But, my dear, we're still fighting
And long gone will be gone,
Let It Burn! Let It Burn! Let It Burn!

Locu of Cerulean

Based on Silent Night:

Happy Day!

Happy day, cheerful day
All is bright, let us pray
Our way with some summer sun
On the beach with some watery fun
Dance in heavenly pace
Dance in heavenly pace!

Happy day, cheerful day
Grab your favourite sundae
Build a cot and stable of sand
Though no snow will fall in this land
Still we have Christmas here
Still we have Christmas here!

Bunnylaroo, Emerald

Winter Wonderland

(I chose that particular version because it's shorter :D)

Warm Down-under Land

Weatherman, are you listenin'?
On my brow, sweat is glistenin'!
The sun is so bright,
Not a cloud in sight,
Walkin' in the warm down-under land.

In this heat, which is swelterin',
Popsicles will be meltin'.
Put on some short shorts,
Then go and cavort,
Walkin' in the warm down-under land.

In the meadow you can get a suntan;
Watch your pasty skin turn golden brown.
Did you bring the sunscreen? You'll say, "No, man!"
Soon you'll be lobster red from toe to crown!

Later on, you'll perspire,
As the temp climbs on higher.
At last you will feel
Your nose start to peel,
Walkin' in the warm down-under land.

Arghhpirate, Meridian

It's the rainy season in summer here, something about El Nino and La Nina, that's all I remember from high school geography...

Winter Wonderland

Car horns honk, are you listening,
In the street, rain is glistening,
An unhappy sight,
It's raining tonight,
Living on the bottom of the globe.

Up-and-down, goes the weather,
Hot and cold, we're together,
The sun comes out strong,
Then rain comes along,
Living on the bottom of the globe.

Living on the bottom of the globe.
Living on the bottom of the globe.
I can't think anymore D:

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
Have Yourself A Scorching Summer Christmas

Have yourself a scorching summer Christmas,
Keep your prawns on ice,
From now on,
Our barbies will be lit in thrice.

Have yourself a scorching summer Christmas,
Let our drinks be chilled,
From now on,
Our bellies will be stuffed and filled.

Here we are, it's a sunny day,
Rain please stay away, not pour.
Faithful friends who will brave the heat,
Let us cool our feet, offshore.

Through the eve,
We all will dine together,
While the stars are bright.
Go ahead, just add a little Vegemite!
And have yourself a scorching summer Christmas night.

Dexla ~ Cerulean
Joy to the World - lyrics

Joy to the Other Side of the World

Oy it's so hot, and humid out,
Please pass the lemonade!
The live nativity, on the lawn, they lie about
In the house we should have stayed
In the house we should have stayed
With air conditioning, we should have stayed.

Sweltering heat, my knickers stick
And soon, my in-laws come!
Giving sweets to all the kids, til they're absolutely sick
I'll drink until I'm numb
I'll drink until I'm numb
I'll just keep drinking, until I'm numb.

We'll hang the lights on banana trees
To the beach, we all will go!
Snorkeling with Santa Claus, and trying out new water skis
Who needs six feet of snow?
Who needs six feet of snow?
You keep- yes, you keep- your stinkin' snow.

Baby it's Hot Outside

I really can't stay
Baby it's hot outside
I gotta go away
Baby it's hot outside
This evening has been
Been hoping that you'd drop by
So very nice
Lemme get some drinks, I'll add some ice
My mother will start to worry
Beautiful what's your hurry?
My father will be pacing the floor
Listen to the ceiling fan roar
So really I better scurry
Beautiful please don't hurry
Well maybe just a half a drink more
Put some records on while I pour...

....yep.
I kinda took the easy way out.

Sallymae, Meridian

Jingle Bell Rock

Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock
Jingle bells chime
in jingle bell time
Dancin' and prancin' in Jingle Bell Square
In the sunny glare

What a bright time, it's the right time
To surf the day away
Jingle bell time is a swell time
To go splashin' in the ocean spray

Giddy-up jingle folks, kick up your feet
Jingle around the clock
Mix and a-mingle in the jinglin' beat
That's the jingle bell
That's the jingle bell
That's the jingle bell rock

Pomfret, Cerulean

White Christmas lyrics

Wet Christmas

I'm dreaming of a wet Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the monsoons beckon
And children hasten
To watch all the flood waters flow

I'm dreaming of a wet Christmas
With every Christmas card I get
May you never ever forget
Don't let all your presents get wet

Edit: Not only do we not get snow, some of us don't even get the sun too :(

Bisquick - Cerulean

Hi Greylady, can I borrow your link? Thanks >.>

Original: "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire"

S'mores are roasting on an open fire
Insects nipping at your nose
Yuletide carols being strummed on guitar
And folks in shoes with open toes

Tilinka, Emerald

I thought quite a bit about turning Frosty the Snowman into Ole the Sandman... but it wasn't turning into a particularly Christmassy sort of song.. so:

Over the River and Through the Woods

Over the river and down the beach
To Grandmother's house we ride.
The gulls know the way to lead us this day
Through the receding tide.

Over the river and down the beach,
Oh, how the surf does splash.
It tickles the toes and dampens the clothes
As over the ground we dash.

Over the river and down the beach
To have a full day of play.
Oh, hear the bells ringing ting-a-ling-ling,
For it is Christmas Day.

Jigle Bell Rock

Youtube song with lyrics

Lyrics- Text Only

I used the youtube one when writing

Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock
Jingle bells swing and jingle bells ring
Swimming and splashing up bushels of fun
Now the barbecue has begun

Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock
Jingle bells chime in jingle bell time
Dancing and prancing in shorts and a tee
In the humid air!

What a bright time, Its the right time
to rock the night away
Jingle bell time, Its a swell time
to go wakeboarding for a fun filled day

Giddy-up speed boat pick up your speed
Turn left up at the dock
Mix and a- mingle on the sandy beach
Thats the jingle bell rock!

Budclare, Meridian

Carol of the Bells

Sweaty Carol

Mark how the sweat,
wet, salty sweat,
drips down your back,
soaks your shirt, ack.

Christmas is here,
bring some cold beer.
Just for the old--
kids soda cold.

Plink, plonk, plink, plonk,
loud as a conch,
echoing drops,
might need some mops.

One seems to see,
cups of iced tea,
in every hand
braving hot sand.

Oh how the heat,
blisters my seat,
Has not my sweat,
cooled it down yet?

Daily swelt'ring,
clothes you could wring:
Now it is clear,
Christmas is here.

Sweaty, sweaty, sweaty, sweaty Christmas.
Sweaty, sweaty, sweaty, sweaty Christmas.

Endless trickle,
oh damp tickle.
This is my hell,
and now I smell.

Plink, plonk, plink...plonk.
